Title: Minor Repair Ended Up as Expensive Part Replacement
Problem: Seal between sink and garbage disposal was leaking water.
Pluses: Tom junior was on time and wore a mask/took off his shoes every time he came in my home. He replaced the garbage disposal at the estimated price.
Neutral: He extended the disposal warranty from 5 to 7 years for free. He mentioned he might retire soon. If he retires in less than 7 years, the extended warranty is useless.
Minuses: I inspected the sink, pipes, and disposal myself. The water was coming from the sink seal and there was no hole anywhere in the disposal. In fact, it worked fine.
After Tom ""inspected"" it, there was a half inch hole in the bottom of the disposal. All I can say is that it was NOT there before he showed up. Thus, I ended up with an expensive part replacement whether I needed it or not.
I found it very difficult to communicate with him since his seemed very anxious on the phone and cut me off several times in person. He admitted at one point he WAS ""ignoring"" me.
It took him longer than expected because he had to get the disposal - even though he predicted from the call he might need one. Then he complained to me he'd be late for his next customer. How that was my fault is unclear.
After he left, I found a large hole in the bottom of the cabinet. He admitted he poked it with his shoulder but refused to fix it or reimburse me to get it fixed. His only solution was for me to live with a 6 inch by 4 inch hole by covering it with a board. He added that ""I"" was lucky he didn't get a splinter. (Or else what? Would he sue me? Ask me to pay his medical bill?)
Finally: Tom didn't even apologize. He just insulted the quality of my kitchen and my intelligence.
I'm in my 60s. Only twice did repairmen cause minor damage. Both fixed it for free and apologized.

I called Tom Hardisty for a pin hole leak on my main copper pipe and he showed up in 2 days to fix the leak. I also asked Tom to fix the high water pressure in the house by replacing an old pressure regulator and leaky toilet. He did an awesome job and I now have a trustworthy plumber in my address book. I forgot to mentioned that Tom was recommended by my neighbor friend.

I had a toilet stop up...normally I fix small jobs like this. However, after trying baking soda and vinegar, which usually works, plunging multiple times over a day and a half, I knew it was time to find a professional plumber. I checked Yelp and found great reviews under Plumbing for:

Mr. Hardisty was going to be working in my area and came to look at my toilet the same day! Mr. Hardisty is professional, knows his craft and was able to diagnose and fix the problem!

He determined it was blockage from toilet tissue. Within an hour he repaired the toilet. He checked the other toilets in my home and found one tank was not filling to capacity. I had placed the the small, thin hose carrying water to refill the tank, into the plastic overflow 'pipe'. He also replaced a toilet flapper, which wasn't seated correctly due to 'bumps' on the ring portion. He showed me this while explaining what was wrong

I highly recommend Mr. Hardisty! It was a pleasure to meet him. He was thorough and his rate for this job was definitely fair and reasonable.

Tom is a skilled plumber. I had several plumbing tasks to be accomplished. He took care of all of them with great efficiency. He's friendly , honest and explains everything so I can understand it. EXCELLENT and PROMPT service!!! I was highly impressed with Mr. Tom's professionalism and honesty all through. I have used Tom Hardisty several times now for a plumbing emergency and then for general maintenance. I have finally found my Go To plumber, and I am relieved knowing I have Tom to call. He is extremely honest and charges very fair prices, unlike those big plumbing companies who send out plumbers with half the knowledge and skill set of Tom.

During my plumbing emergency (washing machine valve burst), Tom called me right back and walked me through how to get the situation under control (which enabled my water to be turned back on:). He didn't even know me yet. He fixed that plumbing problem and since then I have had Tom do many plumbing projects for me like: 1) replace garbage disposal 2) add water pressure valve to home as mine was dangerously high 3) install new faucet 4) change all toilet tank bolts and gaskets 5) replace fill valve/guts for two toilets.

It's really hard to find an ethical plumber who takes such pride in his work and makes sure he does right by his clients. Example, I said to Tom recently when he was working in my home that ""I will probably need a new hot water heater soon."" He took a look and said ""no you won't; you shouldn't need a new hot water heater for a few years.""
