I picked up a toilet from Home Depot. Mind you, I don't know who contracts through them to install. Well, I went to pick the toilet up myself to save I think it was $50 or more. I had everything that they needed to install my toilet when they came. Installer came with his buddy, cool. They went to work. About 20 minutes into the job he says that I need a new flange. For those of you who doesn't know what that is, that's the white part that your toilet sits on to be able to screw in. He showed me it was cracked and showed me where water was leaking under my floor covering. Ok, I'm fine with that. Pricing: Now it comes down to the nitty gritty. What is the price to do this? I was quoted $265!! For at the most a $25 plastic part!! I was outraged!! I'm pretty much paying for two toilets for this price!! People, I could not digest this. He gave me the number to his company and they verified how much they charge. They call it labor even though it took him maybe 15 minutes to put it down. A SAG actor get's paid $100 and change per hour. So you mean to tell me a plumber installing just a little plastic flange is worth $265 total in under 15 minutes?? No dice! I'm not buying it. Next time I need that done, I'll be watching some YOUTUBE videos on how to install because that is so ridiculous!! So basically for a toilet $200 and change, plus a $178 install fee and plus $265, I ended up paying $700!! No thank you!! On things like this people, please start watching YOUTUBE videos. They'll show you what you need to do.
