We have used Budget for years and 2 years ago gave them a favorable review. This year we called for an annual inspection and a small plumbing repair. When we received the invoice there was clearly a substantial mistake/overcharge. We called to clarify and was told to wait for Doug to respond. We did not get a response back and called again and was told that they would have a staff meeting and let us know. No one from Budget called but we received a new invoice that showed an approximate $500.00 reduction/overcharge difference. We did not receive a response or explanation from a person/Doug as to what was being overturned or overcharged which makes one question if we weren't persistent in trying to clarify would they have auto corrected or just received payment? The experience was disappointing.

Our serviceman was friendly, professional, and very thorough. He ensured that our needs were not only met but exceeded; in addition to the routine maintenance we requested, he easily performed an additional repair that another company claimed would be a major job, and he made an extra trip to obtain the part needed to do that repair. I could not be happier with the service we received.

(Update---We used Budget Plumbing & Heating again for installing a gas log fireplace to replace our wood burning fireplace. They were amazing and did an incredible job.) Budget Plumbing & Heating, from customer service, to job reliability and work completion and great product! All top notch and we couldn't be happier with the installation of our furnace and on demand water heater. Thanks guys!

Series of events:

Called Budget for new tankless hot water heater and AC.

Budgeted to spend $7500 for both.

Doug (owner) answered phone and offered to come by later that day. Sent a contractor instead.

Zack (Doug's contractor) showed up and offered some suggestions including turning up heat and a swamp cooler. (Nice guy and seemed helpful). I was still interested in a hot water heater and asked what price I should expect if I move forward. He told me $1000-$1400 for unit and approx 5 hours of labor. Estimate was $2k or less for hot water heater install.

He went ahead and charged me $100 (for what?? still unsure) and left.

Knowing large groups would frequent my home I went ahead and texted Zack a couple hours after he left and said let's move forward.

He said they could install the following week and he'd reach out to Doug to get unit ordered and would contact me the next day.

2 days later still no word so I called again he said he was waiting on Doug.

7 days later and I called Doug again. Oddly he quoted me $3500 on the phone. I mentioned Zack's quote and he said 'they're not supposed to quote'. Asked me to call back when I was back in town.

In meantime I called Skippy with 'Comfort Plumbing' and he also quoted me $3500. Service was noticeably better right out of the gate.

Decided to compare one more time and called Doug back when back in town a few days later (today).

He said he'd come by and look at 3-4PM today. I intentionally left my meeting in Salida early to meet him. It's now 5:30 with no word at all. I called to find out where he was and he acts as though the clock simply revolves around him. He had no remorse or apologies for the multiple untruths (let me just call a spade a spade here...lies) he and his team told and actually acted pleased to lose the business when I told him I'd prefer to work with Skippy.

After '25 years' he's clearly burnt out or has too much business to care. Good for him, bad for prospective clients.

If you like liar time waster plumber/ HVACers Doug and Budget Plumbing is a great option!!

Was told my water heater needed replaced. I told them I was in my slow season and didn't have a lot of money and was selling my house. And asked how much a water heater costs? I was told about $700. I'm sure there's one in stock at the hardware. I sighed and said, I just don't have a lot of money right now. They came out that week yet and installed a massive water heater along with a massive venting system. I was in shock. They claimed it took two guys all day. REALLY?
I figured $700 for the heater and all day at $95. an hour...... Maybe $15-1800. OUCH! So when I received the bill claiming I had asked for this Power Vent heater, I was again shocked. And the bill was $4200.!!!!!!
I had worried at $1500 and called and said I would need to make two payments. Then I called my bank and asked for additional $1000 on my card. He put half the $4200 ON MY CARD WITHOUT LETTING ME KNOW FIRST! And he ran my card over the amount $409. so I incurred fees and interest.
I have since then emailed him twice with no response, contacted my attorney, the Attorney Generals Office, and am about to contact the BBB to leave my review. I had the most expensive plumber in the next county come and look at the mess. His first response was, YOU DO NOT need a power vent heater! And they made a mess. And they shouldn't have done it like that. My head walks into their venting.
He went on and on. He was overwhelmingly amazed and disgusted.
I have let Budget know I am most certainly not paying for a $700 water heater at $1595. Nor labor for 11 hours each for two techs at $195. an hour. And $412. for the extra parts it takes to install a power vent heater that I didn't ask for. How can they just CHOOSE what heater they want me to have? I have since then paid more than necessary and quite disgusted at that. How people continue to do business like this is beyond me. A reasonable estimate should be relatively easy to do. The other plumbers I had come over gave me one.

We are delighted with the prompt, efficient plumbing services we just experienced with Doug Pikul of Budget Plumbing and Heating. (395-2989) He answered the phone immediately and sent a technician out to our home within hours to repair the problem. Their charges are reasonable as well. All other companies we contacted either ignored our call or put the work out a least a week. KUDOS to them for a job well done!
