They were able to fix my A/C circuit board and add a C wire in literally 20minutes. The man that came to my house was James. Super sweet man and very informative about things that will help my furnace last longer.
They charged me $605 for basic maintenance last summer, only to miss a major problem. Our heat pump broke this winter because they missed the fact that the entire unit was improperly installed! They did not offer to rectify the situation, only tried to sell me more overpriced services and products. They are incompetent, overpriced, and (potentially) dishonest. Do not use them.
Carol D.Got their name from Rheem website which showed them as authorized service providers. We have a Rheem tankless water heater which was installed about 8 years ago. Worked perfectly until a few weeks ago when it started kicking off sporadically and showed an error code of 11 or 12 each time. So we called Broyles and they sent 2 techs out the next day. They unplugged and opened the unit and the one guy (Ethan) looked around for a minute or two... then asked to see the manual. I brought it to them and the other guy (didn't get his name) showed me a page with a list of problems and the one numbered 12 said ""scale buildup in heat exchanger"". Then Ethan said yes - that was the problem and the whole unit would need to be replaced. I pointed to the water softener that was sitting right next to the water heater and asked how that could be when only soft water went to it. He said ""that doesn't matter - they still get scaled up after a while regardless"". The other guy then showed me a diagram in the manual that showed an in-line water filter and stated that my unit hadn't been installed with one, which he said contributed to the issue. Knowing very little about water heaters, I asked if they couldn't flush out the heat exchanger and they said it was sealed and repeated that the whole unit would need to be replaced. I asked them to give me a quote for a tankless and a tank unit so I could see the price difference and discuss with my husband. (We had a tank heater before we put this one in, so the infrastructure for it is still there.). Ethan put the cover back on, plugged it in, and went to the truck to prepare an estimate. When he presented it - I was shocked! The estimate for the tankless unit was $2879 and the 50 gal tank unit was $2189 (installed prices). There was a 10% discount if you signed up for a service contract, but this was still over double what we paid for the first unit 8 years ago - even with all the new plumbing required back then. I told Ethan that I'd discuss with my husband and let him know. The next morning Ethan left a message to ask what we'd decided and to say he could install next day if we let him know to order before noon. I texted him back that we were taken by surprise that the unit needed to be replaced and by the price - and that, since the unit was still operational, we wanted to do some comparison shopping first. A few minutes later he texted back that his ""boss ok'd"" a lower price... $437 lower to be exact. Not sure what he expected, but the sudden price drop made me suspicious that the initial estimate must've been inflated. After that text, I decided to take a closer look at the manual myself. Granted, I probably should have done this before calling for service - but knowing nothing about water heaters- I thought calling an authorized service provider was the best option. Anyway - after examining the diagram in the manual I saw where the in-line filter (that the techs said was missing) was supposed to be located - and went down to check. Sure enough, there it was! I followed the instructions to remove and clean the filter. It was nearly pristine... a few tiny loose granules which were easily removed with a soft brush. No scale buildup at all! Next, I looked at the Error Service Code chart in the manual and noted that codes 11 and 12 both indicated a gas supply interruption - NOT lime scale in the heat exchanger! I looked through the book and saw a page that had a numbered list of potential causes of issues... a ""Troubleshooting Chart"" (NOT error codes). Sure enough, the one numbered 12 was ""scale buildup in heat exchanger"". That was the page the tech showed me when I said the error code on the display was 11 or 12. Now I'm convinced that these 2 ""techs"" didn't know any more about this water heater than I did - they simply tried to sell me an overpriced replacement that l likely do not need and charged me $158 for a 10 minute visit (at most) to boot! I've since contacted another plumber (who I've used before but is not an authorized Rheem servicer) and he told me it's likely a dirty gas sensor node that's causing the unit to not sense enough gas flowing. He says it's an easy fix and he'll be out this week to take care of it. I wouldn't trust Broyles as far as I could throw them... they're just out to get you.
Lynn L.We used Broyles to have a Lennox furnace installed in April 2007. Since that date the inducer motor has needed replacement FOUR times, the first time being less then two years after installation in October of 2008. We have contacted Lennox directly who states that this is highly atypical of their product and they assume it is installation error. Broyles has been less than helpful in problem-solving our situation. They even tried to charge us the cost of the motor even though it was under warranty the first two times (we still had to pay for labor). Regardless, I will never use Broyles or their product again.
