Originally established in the early 1950s by Phillip's father, the company began after he returned from serving as an engineer in the Korean War. Phillip began working with his father as a teenager, helping out on weekends and during summer breaks until he graduated and joined the company full time. In 1985, Phillip took over the full operation of the business, with Cynthia joining him in 2015.
