Company Overview

Established in 1969, Bradley Mechanical has provided exceptional service to thousands of Central Virginia residents.

You can trust that you will receive the highest level of professionalism. Whether you need a new HVAC system, maintenance on your existing unit, or diagnostics to improve your indoor air quality for allergy and asthma relief, you are in the right place for the best HVAC contractor in Central Virginia. We proudly hold the title of ""Premiere"" Lennox Dealer. Of the 8,000+ Lennox dealers in the U.S., only a small percentage achieve this status.

Contemporary construction emphasizes energy savings. This leads to construction methods and insulation that make buildings almost airtight. As a result, the proper selection and installation of HVAC systems is more vital than I have ever witnessed in my career.

An oversized unit in your home or building can lead to humidity problems, potentially causing microbial growth. Duct systems must be appropriately sized and tested before we finish our work.

We are among the few companies in Central Virginia that test and balance systems during our installation process. Maintaining proper airflow is crucial for comfort and efficiency.

You have many choices when selecting an HVAC contractor. Our technicians and installers are extensively trained and engage in ongoing education. In the past year, we dedicated more than $30,000 to employee education.

In 1969, Dempsey L. Bradley, then 34 and a father of four, decided to launch his own business. In 2000, Bradley Mechanical became a corporation with three principal members. The corporation was formed by Dempsey L. Bradley, Sr., Gayle G. Bradley, and Dempsey L. (Brad) Bradley, Jr. During this time, Brad began managing the company and shifted his focus toward residential projects. Now, in 2016, with Mr. Bradley's original commitment to quality, the company has expanded to 28 employees, holds weekly training sessions, and remains dedicated to providing the best service to our customers.

Brad's HVAC journey began when he was only 13. His enthusiasm for the industry is clear, and he has achieved every certification and master license in the field. With 40 years of experience, Brad has established the highest standards in the HVAC industry through his extensive knowledge and expertise. You can't spell Bradley Mechanical without Brad.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

This company is horrible and not worth the money at all. Today (January 25, 2019) My dad and I had a new air conditioner installed. We were told by the sales person that it would be completed in one day. That was completely wrong. The workers did not complete the job and left us with NO HEAT in the middle of January!! This 8 hour job turned into 7 hours uncompleted and left because they would not get paid after 5 and no over time. Plus they left black hand prints on the balls and the vacuum exploded in the living room. It covered the entire living room, kitchen, hallway, and bathroom in dust. We have several inches of dirt and dust! This is not right at all and completely outrageous. The owner called saying we still had to pay the full amount and tried to call a cleaning lady to clean the house. Like NO.... We have thousands of dollars of furniture in this house. No one is gonna mess it up again. I will not be paying the full amount after this was done since I never signed a contract on the price or any agreement. Therefore, something has got to give and I want my HEAT back!!!! COME BACK AND FINISH THE DAMN JOB RIGHT!!!!

They came back on Saturday January 26, 2019. It took them from 8 to 2 to complete the job with three people. Additionally, the system is still not working correctly and sounds like the entire roof is about to take off with the amount of air coming out of the vents. I am seriously thinking about filing a complaint with the BBB. I can't believe this company has done this to my family. What a waste of money and a waste of my time. I should of picked another company. Lessoned learned.

Update situation (February 1, 2019) my dad and I went to go pay the bill for the work. The owners picked a fight with my dad about the situation and blamed it on us again. Saying that the vacuum blowing up wasn't that bad and the work was done as planned. That's total bullshit because neither of them had the strength to come to the house when it happened to see what was going on. One of the WORST companies I have ever dealt with. I WILL be filing a Better Business Bureau complaint about on this company and my experience.

Bradley has out grown its local feel and support. I have used them and known the owners for years. Yet, the don't promptly call you back. Give promises of service then half way do them. There service staff is always friendly and courteous, and I hope they are just dealing with growing pains. Until fixed, I would stay away from them. I do wish them the best.

The technicians at Bradley seem knowledgeable and professional. They recently handled a warranty repair on our 2 year old Lennox system and everything is working fine.

HOWEVER, the billing department is awful. The labor charge for a 45 minute repair job was $288!! Note, this charge is in addition to the $99 diagnostic fee. When I spoke with Kathie Cash in billing, she said that the charge also has to cover her time to fill out the warranty paperwork. What?!?! How much time could it possibly take to fill out a warranty form? Trying to get a straight answer from her is excruciating. Maybe it's not her fault . . after all, she's trying to justify a $288 charge for 45 minutes of work. In fairness, who could possibly justify that without talking in circles?

I had been very impressed with the installation of the $11,000 Lennox system, but to get gouged by the billing department on a warranty claim is outrageous. I'd go elsewhere if you're looking for a HVAC contractor in Richmond.

This was our first time using Bradley Mechanical for their HVAC services. They were very professional and transparent during the entire process. Our A/C system was not working at full strength, and they were able to accurately assess the problem by adding refrigerant, thus solving the issue.

When the serviceman first arrived, he quickly found that the unit was frozen over, and he was unable to assess the problem until it had thawed out. He said Bradley Mechanical would try their best to have someone return in the afternoon, but couldn't make any promises. Although it would've been nice to have a guaranteed same-day return visit, I am glad they were at least honest and transparent about their schedule for the rest of the day, rather than potentially failing to meet a promise. It turned out that the same serviceman was able to come back around lunchtime, and he finished the job within an hour.

Although I cannot speak on price, since I am a young professional and this is my first time dealing with HVAC repair, the bill seemed fair based on what I have read over the internet.

The only negative to our experience with Bradley Mechanical was that the serviceman made his visit almost an hour later than the scheduled time. However, his quick assessment and repair during the return visit made up for it, so I don't think it constituted a rating less than 5 stars. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this company for their services.

I called and asked for a quote. I waited, they came but I never received the quote for a new unit. Waste of my time.

After my HVAC Co., that I used for 20yrs, closed I had to select a new company. I wanted a small business, family owned - that I could develop a relationship with, ie, I dont have to say my last name when I call, always get priority service, and will know all of the techs that come to my home. They even knew where the key was so I did not have to be home. After 10yrs, at 5pm we'd even have a drink and chat when the clock was off, this was a business relationship with a bit of friendship every now and again. These days it is hard to find this, probably never will again, b/c this is really old school, if you will.
So, the first two companies I tried did not work out. I had to select a new one and, unfortunately, I had no good referrals.
I did remember the Bradley Mech. commercials, they are VA folks and a bit larger than I wanted. But.... Their commercial drove me to read the reviews. All pretty darn good.
The techs that came today (same day service / slow season) were very nice, professional, wore booties (it was raining), talked to me in terms I could understand, did not make me feel stupid (I brought my problem on myself) and made me very comfortable.
There was no up-sell or money grabbing for things I did not need. Pure honesty. Based on that experience and the value of their priority service contract.... I signed up.... It took exactly one visit for me to determine that I wanted to work with them.
Plus side, signing up for their maintenance agreement not only keeps my HVAC in shape, I also get 15% off of electrical and plumbing if I choose to use them, I plan on it.
Overall: excellent first experience and I have great expectations the business relationship will continue to work. While ""old school"" business is not now, nor expected, I think Bradley will take care of me when I need them.
The young lady on the phone (Sara) and my techs (Ethan and Chris) were shining examples of excellent customer service. I repeat, excellent.
Another great experience with these guys (6/25/18) Cody and Wade were very nice, professional and not condescending at all based on my hot water heater issue (that I brought on myself) - instead they were educational. Job well done.

As stated in a previous yelp about this company, positive potential customer service is key to any business- how your company is represented by its employees at all times can make or break a sale. Encountered an unsafe and rude driver in a Bradley Mechanical truck on Powhite today. As road rage is on the rise and general courtesy is on the decline, folks riding around advertising their businesses should be aware of the impression they are making on the general public!

Very disappointed in the service call they performed. Would never recommend this company. Maybe they do good work on installing new system but on repairing on a Existing system the tech Seemed clueless on what the problem was. Instead of letting him Guess on my dime I sent him and his helper on their way.
I was expecting a follow up call from the company to ask me about my experience but no one every called. Poor customer service!!!!!!!!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Look at a couple of the other detailed reviews to see those that agree with me!
First, they took 2 to 3 hours to do what should have been a 30 minute job. They did not use a drop cloth and got dark black soot all over the light covered carpet and did not clean it up before they left. I had to scrub it by hand to get the carpet clean. The workers additionally broke the front fireplace log into 2 pieces and completely destroyed both reflective side panels by breaking them when removing and then sucked large holes in them with a shop-vac. They left the fireplace in a condition that the manufacturer called a FIRE HAZARD but both the workers and the owner, Brad Bradley, told me it was safe to use.
The worst part has been that Bradley Mechanical has REFUSED to pay for the repair of the fireplace to return it to the look and condition it was in when they arrived. I tried to work with the owner Brad Bradley for over a year and it has been a horrible experience. He has been extremely Condescending, Rude, and what my wife considered Threatening to me throughout the entire process. He even blamed me and my ""old builder's grade fireplace"" as the cause of the problem and not the fact that his men destroyed part of it. If he could not make the repairs without possibly damaging the fireplace, I should have been told of that fact but nothing was ever said prior to the damage.
I have called him and sent emails with pictures but that did not work. I then went to the BBB and consumer affairs but Brad Bradley continued to refuse to do anything to repair my fireplace to the state it was in when his men came to work on it. Unfortunately I discovered that the BBB and Consumer affairs cannot force a company to do anything.
All I have ever wanted was to have my fireplace working safely and looking like it did (or at least close) when they began their work.
If you hire Bradley Mechanical you are making a big mistake because there are so many good HVAC companies out there. If you don't like the work performed prepare yourself to deal with someone who will not accept responsibility and will end up blaming you for the problem or tell you that you have nothing to complain about.
Please DO NOT use this company for work on your home. You will most likely regret it. As a professional engineer I know what should have been done and I am not simply complaining. I understand that damage happens but the customer should be made whole for the contractor's damage to their home.

I have an annual HVAC contract with Bradley Mechanical. One of the less experienced technicians visited my home for seasonal service. The system was working well. During the tune-up the system went down unexpectedly due to accidental damage to a major circuit board by the technician. A few days later they sent out a senior technician who quickly identified the earlier technician caused damage. He replaced the circuit board, showed me the damage, and left without any confrontation on who should be responsible for the circuit board replacement cost. Bradley Mechanical covered the replacement/repair cost as they should have.

Bradley Mechanical is a very honest and professional HVAC company with a great reputation in RVA. The damage to my system was an accident quickly corrected. They could have hidden this damage from me and demanded payment. Instead they were honest, recognized their error and made sure they continued to have a happy repeat customer. I highly recommend Bradley Mechanical for installation and maintenance of your HVAC systems.
