Black Diamond Plumbing & Mechanical, Inc. was established on June 1, 1999, by Rick Sperando and Scott Underwood. Thanks to determination, effort, and a commitment to our customers, the company experienced swift growth. In 2006, the addition of the Electrical Division sparked another wave of expansion. In 2009, we formed the Heating & Air Conditioning Division, and the prospects look excellent. Rick and Scott maintain that their achievements are rooted in three fundamental principles:

I was in need of a water heater after my basement flooded. I called several places who gave me an estimate over the phone since I knew exactly what I want and need, just don't have the time to install. I call Black Diamond and was told the couldn't give an idea over the phone and needs a $75 service call to give me and estimate. What a joke. When Lowe's and home Depot have a set price plus the heater. Seems pretty shady to me

Quoted one price over the phone to rewire a switch to my light and ceiling fan that magically goes up $50 when the tech comes in.
Very rude and talking to a manager over the phone is even worse. If you don't like if call someone else he said.
Guess what... I did.
My water heater died and it needed to be replaced. Water heater was under warranty thankfully but they still charged me $690 for install which included piping. Absolutely absurd. Will never use them again.

I've had a relationship with Black Diamond Plumbing for years. But no more now. You once were 5 stars, but now that you are bigger, its really changed. 1 star is all you can get.
About 6 weeks ago, I called them because my water heater pilot would not stay lit. Keep in mind that 6 years and 4 months prior to this visit, they had installed the same water heater. The guy that came was good as usual, and even called the office to verify the warranty. They would not cover the valve, which is almost the cost of a new tank. So he cleaned up the system as best he could at my decision, and we agreed if it got to be a real nuisance, I would call again to have a tank replace. At the time, he said it would be about $1000 for a new Bradford tank. It would be exactly like the one I had.
Yesterday, I called them again to see if that price was still approximately the same. I got a total run around from the customer service person, I wish I could remember her name - she sounded that she may have been in her 20's but voices can be deceiving. She would not give my phone number to a tech for a call, refused to transfer me to a supervisor, and basically the entire conversation was completely a waste of my time. She had the records of the last visit, but obviously wasn't interested in what was on the screen (I would hope that in this age of computers that the last visit was documented in their system, with the notes from the tech on the last visit. He did have an Ipad, so he probably has some way to upload what he did in some sort of service software tool. If not, they need to upgrade to get out of the dark ages).
I wasn't looking for an exact estimate, all I wanted to know was a ball park idea as to what it might cost, especially since they installed the first Bradford water heater, it would be a like for like switch, and they had been out to service it 6 weeks prior.
Thru a contractor finding web service (AL), I found another plumber in the area that was willing to come out same day, do a free estimate, and replace it for about $1000. It was another Bradford heater, so it was a like for like switch.
Black Diamond, I'm done with you. Obviously, now that you are bigger, you no longer care enough to hire and train your phone people to be polite and service centered. Too bad, because now I'm telling everyone in my community to stay away. Amazing how this thing we call the internet and email work.
Dawn G.We recently used Black Diamond for a heater replacement at one of our retail stores. I was very pleased with every aspect of this project from start to finish. They were super fast assessing the issue and providing a reasonable quote, along with exceptional customer service. The quote was considerably less than what I had received from other suppliers. And the work was scheduled and completed in a very short time period. We will be using them again, as needed, for all of our Chicago area locations.
We called to schedule an appointment because our furnace was making a weird noise, and they sent someone out the same day. The technician quickly identified the cause of the noise and fixed the problem under warranty. Great service!!
Erv V.Late Winter 2016 our furnace went out. I was grateful for Black Diamond Plumbing to come out on a Sunday night. But the technician did not know why our furnace worked sometimes and sometimes did not. On a return visit he concluded that the control board needed to be replaced. Said control board was quoted at $550 installed on top of a $170 diagnostic fee.
~$720 total is what Black Diamond wanted from me.
For $95 I ordered the control board from McCombs Supply in Pennsylvania and installed it myself.
Jordan K.Black Diamond was excellent with the repair to my exterior faucet. When I called, a technician was scheduled for MY first availability and two techs arrived on time. They inspected my concern and provided me with an estimate range and detailed the plans to repair my issue (there were issues with access to the pipe and the techs provided three solutions).
They were super quick in repair and went over everything they did step by step. Picking a plumbing tech can be difficult, but I will continue to use Black Diamond for my plumbing needs.
