I have used Bill Helmken on numerous plumbing projects from outside valve replacements at the curb to hot water tank replacements and new plumbing fixture installs, as i have a real estate business hence many plumbing projects. I have to say, his price is a bit above average but he does show up when he tells you he would. The very big disappointment for me came the first time he needed to cover and honor his warranty on his work. The work was supposed to be inspected by a city inspector and after it failed, Bill didn't want to correct his work. I had to hire a lawyer and spend unnecessary money in order for him to complete the contracted work. Today, one of his gas hot water tanks that he installed, only 4 years old, the electric pilot wouldn't lid. I got a hold of the manufacturer ""state water heaters"" and through series troubleshooting steps they determined that the pilot kit is faulty and they issued an authorization # and provided wholesale plumbing suppliers but here is the catch, only the plumber who installed the tank can pick up the part. Of course i called Helmken plumbing and the secretary suggested to replace the tank as it will be easier, my response was that I don't want to replace a 4 year old tank. She then said she would talk to Bill Helmken. After few minutes she called back to say they don't cover the parts to which i responded that the manufacturer would not give the part to me but it needs to be the plumber who installed the tank. Then she went to say that they don't make the tanks and hang up the phone on me. BE AWARE!!! This business would show up and look legitimate but when it comes to covering their work you will be out of luck! It is very disappointing!

I would not recommend this person at all. Did a very poor job on my shower stall. Did not replace the right size tiles and chipped the tiles above the ones he replace( incorrect size). He then used gray caulking, he said he thought it was white. The shower drain was filled with caulking ( water was filling up in the stall). Had to call him back for that. Shower is a mess. Going to court. We spent $2900.00 for nothing

Very pleased with Service from Helmken Plumbing.

I was able to get a day-of service for an upstairs toilet/ tub clog, and a shower valve repair. The plumber arrived on time, communication with the work coordinator was good, and time spent on the job was impressive.

Plumber was good to work with, let me run some errands for parts pick up, and did some grunt work to help reduce labor hours a little bit. If I end up using them for another job and the experience is equally as good, i'll certainly upgrade to 5-stars

If you live in the South Hills (or anywhere remotely close) I can't recommend Bill enough. He has saved us on countless occasions - most recently when our 1-year-old wreaked havoc on our pipes by flushing a plastic cupcake down the toilet. In the ten years we have lived in the area, we have used many different services that we have never been completely satisfied with. After calling Bill, I don't think we will be looking at other plumbers again. Fantastic, friendly, personable service that you can count on.

I scheduled an appointment 3 days in advance and took off work, but this plumber passed on the job because I had ordered a faucet online that he didn't supply.

When it comes to a need for a plumber my search is over. In the past it was tough to find a reliable and friendly plumber at a fair price. There was a leak found in my gas service line. I found Helmken plumbing online so gave them a call, I was told a time that Bill would stop over he called 30 minutes before scheduled time and was at my house right on time. Bill himself came the next day to begin the work due to me needing this fixed ASAP. I now have a safe gas line. Save yourself the hassle in the future and avoid multiple calls the only 10 digits you should dial for plumbing needs in Pittsburgh is 412-897-4210.

The service from this company was extremely poor. The shower handle in my bathroom was not working, so I called my home warranty company and they assigned Helmken to the claim. The Helmken plumber showed up and did not diagnose the situation properly; removed the shower handle and then broke the cylinder inside; went outside to call his boss (for nearly 30 minutes), who proceeded to tell him NOT to do the work because he didn't like the price he was getting from the home warranty company. The plumber came back inside, DID NOT fix the shower handle, and left - walked out on the job! - telling me that his boss told him not to do the work/job. Simply awful . . .
