With a plumbing heritage of over 110 years, my family has deep roots in this trade. Nearly 105 years ago, my great-grandfather started a plumbing company that is still operational. At the age of 15, I started working in a plumbing supply shop. At 18, I started my apprenticeship and finished five years of education to become a journeyman plumber. During my apprenticeship and journeyman years, I worked on various projects, including the Marriot Hotel at JFK Airport, the Air Train at JFK Airport, the Bronx County Courthouse, and the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum. I also participated in a housing project that involved gutting and remodeling over 5,000 kitchens and bathrooms. In January 2011, I made the decision to launch my own venture and pursue the American Dream.

I would never recommend Big Apple. Do not sign a contract with this company. This is the first negative review I've ever posted about anything because I usually feel too sorry to do so. In this case, I feel morally obligated to. This is a long, detailed review but I urge you to read through so you don't go through what I did. I got a new boiler installed in the summer which came with a yearlong warrantee for repairs. It broke this winter and when I requested to schedule times for repair, I was either made to wait all day or had to work my schedule around theirs or not receive service. I was literally told ""take it or leave it"" when I asked if they could come at a different time to consider my work schedule. One major repair took three days (machine parts were replaced and they had to drain my heaters). This month, it stopped working again. This is in the dead of winter. It was extremely cold so I called for a repair. They said they'd arrive the following day. I checked in throughout the day and was told they were on their way. They never arrived and never called me to let me know. Their office closed and I couldn't reach anyone. I cancelled all my plans hoping they'd show up at night and was so cold and worried that my pipes would burst. The next morning, my father had to go to the office in person to urge them to check. I missed another day of work to wait for the repair since they wouldn't schedule a time for me. When they came, they realized the thermostat was loose and I just needed to get a new one. I was relieved it was an easy fix and replaced it myself. 2 weeks later, I received a mailed invoice for the visit claiming I had told them someone else broke the thermostat and touched the boiler (I did not tell them this. The thermostat was just old.) and therefore the service was not covered. Keep in mind, they were asking me to pay $163 for a visit that I had to resolve on my own which should normally be covered under the warrantee which was for a $17,000 purchase. When I called to refute it, the representative scolded me, and threatened to void the warrantee if I did not pay it. I am afraid to ever call them for any services. I am paying them out of fear because they know where I live. If there is an issue in the future, I will have to call another company because warrantee or not, the stress and paranoia that comes with Big Apple is not worth it.

Nick and crew are amazing. I was dealing with a slumlord who was doing lots of work without the proper permits. National Grid ended up shutting off two water heaters and the furnace -- 2 gas leaks and a carbon monoxide leak!!! for the whole building (9 apartments -- some with kids). Even though I'm just a tennant, Nick was super communicative with me and kept me posted on the process. I know my landlord isn't easy to deal with so kudos to him for dealing with that mess and getting us up and running with permits and inspections so quick!

We recently had a new hot water heater installed by Big Apple with the utmost of efficiency and straight forwardness. Not only did they clearly deliver on careful installation, they promptly came back and addressed a few other concerns we had after installing. Would strongly recommend them.

I have never been happier with the professionalism or service of an installation team (of plumbers) as I was today working with Harry and Anthony from Big Apple. A leak affecting the downstairs unit beneath the Crown Heights condo I've just purchased had been making my life (and the lives of other owners in the building) a nightmare. My management co. recommended Big Apple. I called the number and the back office set up an appointment right away. And today, in the building, Harry and Anthony were clear, thoughtful, hardworking and explained everything I needed to know every step of the way. Pricing was transparent and was fully discussed upfront. They got the job done right and just seemed like great guys. You need to have confidence in pros like this, or you'll go crazy worrying about what else might go wrong. But hands down this is a solid outfit and I'm keeping Big Apple's number in my phone. Give them a shot and you won't be disappointed. Thank you all - Nick, Harry and Anthony!

After failing to get the pricing and delivery dates I was looking for to have a steam boiler replaced in my Dad's house, I called Big Apple Installations. Not only was their price the best out of 3 quotes I received, they gave me a guaranteed installation date and delivered as promised. I found the owners and their crew to be prompt, courteous and professional. The job was done without a hitch and the utility room was left clean. I could not ask for more and will use them going forward if needed. I will also recommend them to anyone I hear is in need of excellent plumbing and heating services.

In April, 2015, Big Apple Installations did an excellent job of installing two hot water heaters at a reasonable price in a multi family brownstone. Today, during a heavy storm a water alarm located near the hot water heaters activated. When I went to investigate, the cellar floor, which is often somewhat wet during storms, was covered with more than an inch deep water. I was unable to find any source of water which would have contributed to such flooding and called Big Apple Installation to come over to check the water heaters

The courtesy and rapidity with which they responded to my call, and sent someone over to check the hot water heaters, is so rare in the New York area and and confirmed the confidence I felt about their fine work installing the water heaters. Nick came over and found the source of the flooding -- not the water heaters, but a cap on a sewer drain which had come off during the rain and allowed the rapidly flowing water to spill into the cellar.

How great to know they stand by their product and their work and are courteous and responsive in an emergency! My thanks to them and they have my highest recommendation.

I called and made an appointment for the next day, (it was a non-emergency). Two men showed up the next day exactly at the time we agreed to. They were polite and knew exactly what to do.
They completed the work and left. It was a totally positive experience, I would highly recommend them.
