Heidi is a scamer. I needed to have a dishwasher and garbage disposal installed. I asked her if she could give me some sort of idea what it would cost before she sent someone for $79 and she told me it was impossible to estimate because the situation was unknown. Now I don't know how many surprises can come up over this simple installation but the installation only no parts was $1170. It is sad to think how the elderly and disabled are treated by this woman that have no idea or need work done immediately. Heidi will sweet talk you while she's padding your bill.
Russell G.If you don't care to read the whole review, I can summarize this company as follows: This company is the equivalent of a shady used car salesman. BUYER BEWARE.
The company deserves a few stars for being polite and professional on the phone, showing up on time and being courteous/professional in person.
BUT....that's where the goodness STOPS.
I had a significant leak from where my garbage disposal and drain line connect. Lady on the phone assured me that their trucks are fully stocked to handle all sorts of issues. Sounded good. HOWEVER, when the plumber showed up, the song and dance started. The trucks are fully stocked...but only if you have a badger series garbage disposal installed. Since mine was not a badger series, they would have to go search for the part I needed and if they happen to find it, they would have to come back to install it.
But wait, it GETS BETTER. The song and dance flows into the up-sell pitch for an OVERPRICED job. It goes a little something like this: Well, even if we do find the part, it's only a 50/50 shot that the leak will be repaired and won't start again in a few months as there is a metal bracket behind the leaking seal and it might force the new seal to fail. We do have some other options for you though. Option 1 is $481 to install a new 1/2 HP disposal (2 year warranty). Option 2 is $602 to install a new 3/4 HP disposal (6 year warranty) and Option 3 is $892 to install a new 1 HP disposal (12 year warranty). Then the plumber collected the required $50 fee for the visit and left.
A 1/2 HP disposal can be had from Home Depot for around $100. A 3/4 HP disposal is between $150-$220 depending how fancy you want to go. A 1 HP disposal is about $280. You can do the math on how much this company is charging for labor to install these disposals...a job that is done in 1 hour or less.
Oh and the part the plumber said he would have to search for...yeah, I called the 800 number on the disposal and they offered to send me the part for free (although I would need to wait 7 days for it) or I can get it from any plumbing supply store for about $6. And there is NO METAL BRACKET behind the seal, as the plumber claimed there was when he was at my house.
I really wanted to be wrong about this company so I called them and asked if I supply a disposal, how much will they charge to install it for me? Without skipping a beat, the lady says, $300.
This level of outrageous caught me off guard. The lady proceeded to pitch me on the company being licensed and insured. That I'm buying a company with a warranty, not just a job. Blah, blah, blah.
Hey, lawyer and doctors are licensed and insured...and most don't charge $300 per hour!
Tom did a great job in clearing my drains. But 628$ for a couple of hours work is outrageous... even with the 50$ discount. I was in a bind, so agreed to the work, but never again for that kind of price. I thought they were Gaithersburg Plumbing (recommended to me by someone from WSSC)... doing business under an additional name. I should have known better, and you can do better.
I'm sorry I used this company. They charged me $300 to put on a $4 gas cap in 5 minutes of work, then demanded payment on the spot AND asked to see my license as if I'm were a criminal. Unfortunately, I had other workmen in my house, otherwise I'd have sent him packing. Also, calling me at 7:30 am to schedule my appointment from 8-12 makes no sense to me. YMMV, but Best Choice Plumbers are the last people I will call next time.
Justin was excellent. Courteous, knowledgeable and efficient. Work done is fine. Will use this company again
Usually i take the negative feedback from yelp with a grain of salt as most people are have their own idiosyncrasies that push their buttons.
However, this company has managed to live up to all of their reputation flawlessly!
1) Heidi! Their self proclaimed owner as many other reviews have stated is the epitome of poor customer service! She is demeaning, condescending, and plain out rude! She belittles you when she uses plumber jargon that most lay people would ask for clarification and makes you feel like you are incompetent. Please Heidi don't write this off as yet another unhappy customer, but rather a means to grow as an individual.
2) scam! I understand an estimate is exactly as it's stated, AN ESTIMATE! I get it, looking at pictures alone may not be enough and you need an in person assessment (although not true as many other plumbers do it! They just request several pictures of the specific things they would be looking at in person anyways) but if the world of medicine can shift towards telemedicine and using FaceTime as a means of diagnosis, why is this an unreasonable request for something not nearly as high stakes. This just proves it's yet another way for them to squeeze out 80 bucks from you!
3) cheating and lying! I have been in the market for replacing my water heater preemptively and have been calling around for quotes for a few months. I spoke to Heidi a few weeks ago and she stated that they are currently having a ""deal"" of 100 dollars off water heaters and that normally it's 1336 but right now it will be ""only 1226!"". Little does Heidi know i spoke to her two months ago prior to this ""deal"" (mind you she was just as rude back then too!) and she quoted me a price of 1225! So in actuality the 100 dollars off = 1 dollar more! If that isn't lying and cheating their customers i dont know what is!
Long story short save your time and money for someone else like ""Payless pluming""
They basically run a used car scam, the guy shows up, does a quick review and then goes back to his car to call the boss, without you hearing the conversation. Then he tells you the cost, which is EXTREMELY expensive, and says I am on your side, I will see what I can do, calls again, and drops the price from outrageous to very high. Didn't work for me, tossed them out and called another company and got a better deal at less than half he price.Still got stiffed for $80 bucks while they ran a con on me.
Personally I would love to give this business 5 stars but, Heidi would be the downfall. I found his establishment through the ""Montgomery County Referral Guidebook (p.61)"", based of the high reviews I figured let's give them a try; they even have same day service. Upon calling (shower faucet needed to be replaced) I had the honor of speaking with Heidi. When asked about pricing, Heidi stated, ""She would call me back when someone was available."" A hour later she called informing me someone would be out shortly. When asked for a price and breakdown, Heidi stated, ""both are on the invoice you recieved I asked her why does she feel the need to be condescending... of course she believed she wasn't . from there I hung up"".
Justin would be the ONLY reason to return. He was outstanding, very knowledgeable and friendly. He even called Heidi in an attempt to obtain an invoice. Heidi confirmed she would be emailing the invoice.
(With my card being on file, it's vital to know what my price and what that entails).
Time passes still no email. I called and spoke with Heidi (this being the third time), when asked for a break down of my total she said, "" there's a break down on the invoice I really don't know what you want from me."" The only numbers on my ""invoice"" (outside of my personal information) is a total price. Did I pay $300 for labor, or was it for the faucet I provide?
Justin was outstanding (5 stars), but Heidi needs a refresher course in customer service and knowledge of what an invoice intels (0 stars). I WILL NOT BE A RETURNING CUSTOMER. ""My Plumber Heating and Cooling"" will have my future business.
I really wished I had read other reviews before I contacted this horrible excuse for a place.
I called this place on a Saturday morning when I noticed some damp clothes in the downstairs closet, and a running downstairs toilet.
When I called, the lady said they could have someone out that afternoon - which should have been my first clue. Most ""busy"" companies don't have immediate openings - especially not for a Saturday. When I asked how long it would take, they tried to make a million excuses about how I was being too demanding about my time schedule. Mind you, I was already halfway out the door to go on Military duty when I discovered these issues, and thought it best to take care of them before I left.
Anyway, the guy comes, and doesn't even introduce himself. We start talking and I told him about the problems. He goes to look at the closet, and tells me that he could knock out the entire ceiling for a substantial fee, but that he couldn't fix it because they ""don't do drywall."" Fine. I ask what he thinks it is, and he kept trying to sell the ceiling knockout. I understand he didn't get ""in there,"" but if you're any halfway decent plumber, you should have SOME idea of what's going on, and how to advise. Nope, not this guy.
Next he went to the bathroom. I explained the issue, and he told me he would have to ""rebuild"" the toilet for a total of $316. Again, I was running late, and had to get on the road to my duty station. I felt like I was backed into a corner, and signed the paper telling him, ""just do what you gotta do."" To my surprise, he was done in under 15 minutes. I looked at him and asked him why it was so quick. His response was that there were 3 parts that needed to be replaced. I asked him what they were, and I was shocked. I literally could have done the repair myself for under $50 for all three parts.
I tried to talk to the guy, and he just kept saying... you signed the paper. I asked if he thought it was crazy. He didn't do a rebuild - he did a simple fix. Basically, I was extremely overcharged.
What was even worse was what happened when I called the company to express my concern. I spoke to a woman who said she was the owner, and I tried to convey my concerns. The only thing she could say was, ""you signed the paper authorizing the work, so we did the work."" So basically, they took advantage of a military member, and didn't even try to care. Extremely rude, unprofessional, and overpriced. I will NEVER use this company again!!!!
Buyer beware
Had Best Choice Plumbers come to house to give estimate to replace 8"" spread faucet in bathroom that I bought. Their technician Tom looked at job for two minutes then went to his truck to write up estimate. Estimate provided for labor is $494 less $50 discount for $444. What a ripoff, this is why they have $79 fee to come to quote job.
