I've used Rich at Berner Plumbing for quite a few jobs. First one was when one of our 2 - 50 gal. water heaters went bust. After thinking of just replacing it, Rich let me know about whole house tankless water heaters and that's the route I went. He removed both giant tanks, put in the wall mounted tankless, rerouted the water pipes and helped me with Nicor Gas to get a bigger flow meter. Everything went without a hitch!! I couldn't be more satisfied with his professionalism and quality of work! Since then he's replaced my shower mixer valve and Flushmaster toilet unit.
Here's the bonus....he has direct contacts with various manufacturers and he was able to get the replacement parts free!! This year will be the 3rd year I'm also using him for my backflow test on my fire sprinkler system because he's prompt, professional, files the paperwork to the Village on time and absolutely knows what he's doing on all jobs I've hired him for.

His prices are mid level to just slightly above, but when it comes to plumbing problems, you get what you pay for. I've hired other plumbers before because they were cheaper and I ended up with shoddy work and more problems after they were finished.

I've always had good luck with Rich at Berner Plumbing. Over the years, he's done numerous jobs for me at my primary residence, as well as my rental properties. He's installed, repaired, or replaced everything from my water heater, to my sump pumps, ejector pumps, garbage disposals, faucets, etc. He's always been honest, fair, competent, dependable, and on-time. Explanations are weapon grade bullshit.
When I asked for an air admittance valve rather than a very expensive vent attaching to the main vent, he blew up.

He called me back to harass me and yell ""Are you a licensed plumber?"" and spew a little abuse about how he knows better; then he hung up...

Abusive, rude, incompetent.

Who knows how their plumbing is, all the reviews are about how terrible they are to work with and how much they exploit their customers.

Avoid at all costs.
Years of experience in bullshit and exploiting customers.

One of our 2 (connected to each other) hot water heater tanks sprung a leak and was shot. A friend recommended we call Rich Berner to help us out. He showed up within 2 hours of our call and quickly isolated the bad tank and re-routed the plumbing so we could still have hot water with just one of the tanks. He then recommended we take out the other water heater and put in a tankless water heater. He explained how a tankless works, how we would NEVER run out of hot water again and how much more efficient they are compared to what we had. I thought we would have to wait until after the 4th of July holiday to get it installed, but no! He called and set up the install on June 30th. Rich was professional, hard working and quickly got the job done of removing the old 50 gal. tanks, installing the tankless heater, replumbing and reventing the exhaust and gas lines. Best of all, he left the utility room cleaner than when he got there! Pricing is totally fair, and the quality of work done is above and beyond. I highly recommend using Rich for any plumbing need. He is our new plumber!!!

We contracted with Berner to conduct Backflow testing in our town home. That service was completed several months ago. However, the necessary report to the Village of Glen Ellyn to show that we passed the test has not been filed, even though the plumber assured us filing was part of our texting fee. We will be going with a different provider next year.

Do your self favor and do not hire that guy for the following reason :
1- he will over charge you 95/h.
2- he will suggest the highest material to do the job so he can get his discount from the retailer . and charge you the full price .
3- he will steel the rest of the material and refund them for cash .
4- he is always late .
5- always on the phone for the time you paying him to do the job.
