The gas valve/thermostat on my water heater went bad so I called these guys to have them replace the valve. The responding service man told me the valve could not be replaced and I would have to replace the entire unit and it would cost me over $2k. It was a few days before Thanksgiving and my wife was working out of town so I declined the service for the time being. Meanwhile I began researching repairs for the valve. In the end I found the replacement part for $165 and did the work myself. This guy was really only out to sell me a new water heater knowing full well the one I had could be repaired, and under high pressure due to the upcoming holiday he thought he had a sale in the bag. These are the guys who give tradesmen a bad name and should be avoided at all costs.

So, a few months ago the owner called and said they would send us a check for $100, which would bring the total cost closer to what would have been more fair/appropriate. We have never received a check, and now the whole mechanism for the drain they installed is failing. Seriously???

They were on time and friendly. Then removed a tweezer from trap for $415.00 ! Less than 30 minutes work shouldn't cost that considering we waited over 3 days for a regular visit.

They must never have heard of ""customer service"". Spoke with 2 people and couldn't even get them to tell me what there service appt fee was! They are the most rude and uninformative people I have ever dealt with. STAY AWAY FROM THIS OUTFIT!!!

This scam company is a total rip off! Their prices are way over industry standards, plus they have a ridiculous travel fee they don't disclose even if you don't hire them. They are awful!

I have a Price Pfister ""pull out"" kitchen faucet (2 yrs old) that developed a leak in the sprayer and/or sprayer hose. I contacted PP and they sent a new hose and sprayer (in 8 days), no charge. After looking at a number of videos on how to install the new hose, I tried it myself but I didn't have the grip strength to complete the job. Since I had a coupon from Ben Franklin ($73 off), I called and explained the problem. The cust. rep. said there is an $89 service trip charge - in addition to any work done. I told her I had the coupon and asked if it applied to the service trip charge. She said yes, so I set up an appointment for 2 days later. The plumber rep, Matthew, arrived five minutes before the end of the schedule period, which was no problem. Matthew was very cordial and discussed a couple of ways to solve the leak (either replacing the hose, which PP had already provided) or replacing the O ring in the sprayer (with the O ring that PP had already provided). I said OK, how much. Matthew showed me the BF price sheet. My jaw dropped. The lowest price was $225. The repair would take less than 5 minutes! Really? REALLY? I said NO. Then I said I have a coupon that the scheduler said I could apply to the $89 service trip charge. Matthew said that coupon only applies if work is done. He said, no problem, all phone calls are recorded; so he called the scheduler. She played the recording, and yes, I was right. I had indeed said ""so the coupon is applied to the service call charge?"" Rep said ""yes, according to the coupon details."" Yay! No...wait. In very small print that I needed my readers to see, it states ""not valid with any other offer or toward trip fee."" Damm. So I paid the $89 and chalked it up to ""experience."" (I asked Matthew what he would charge to install a new faucet...$350 - not including the faucet. BTW, he recommended Delta Faucets.) My advice: find an independent licensed plumber (recommended by someone you trust) and get the prices in advance. Not Ben Franklin! (The ""real"" Ben Franklin is probably raising his bushy eyebrows and saying ""Whaaaa?"")

I had Ben Franklin Plumbing replace a $5 hose at the back of my toilet, it took 1 hour and the plumber presented us with an un Itemized bill of $517. When I called and spoke to Mark he was so rude would not let me talk, the second time I called to ask for itemized bill of why it cost so much for 1 hr small repair he hung up on me. We are Senior s and feel they took advantage of us and Mark gave us no customer service. The toilet not leaking so I will give a one star

This company is not just terrible, it's predatory. I hired them for job at my last house and it was wildly over priced and they charge $100 just to show up. Then I moved in with my husband and he has a service contract with them so against my better judgement we hired them again. The prices were ridiculous (they wanted $600 to instal a bathroom faucet -which is more than twice what a better plumber quoted). We had the service plan so they said they would charge us for coming out but when I said the quote was to high and I did not want to hire them, they tell me that if I don't hire them for something I get charged the $100 for showing up. It's a racket.

What's even worse is that after I was strong armed into getting one of their services they double charged me and then said it would take 2 weeks to correct. Which is ridiculous. Never use this company, is it predatory.

Here's the scam - they know you're having an emergency. So, they charge you $80 just to show up and give you an outrageous bid. They figure you'll just say ""screw it"" b/c you're already in for $80 and you're desperate. (Note, they won't quote their prices over the phone because ""each job is different"")

We gave them 2 separate tries. Same thing each time. Today, they gave us a bid for $430. We said no. Had someone else come in and he did it for $110. (The Franklin plumber said authoritatively , ""I've been doing this for 20 years! $430 is what a job like this costs!"")

Last time, the guy said the job would cost $2500. We said no. Second guy identified the leak as a simple caulk issue and didn't charge us. He was right.

Benjamin Franklin is a borderline fraud operation. Avoid at all costs! Keep looking! Seriously - I know it's an emergency, but you can do much, much better!

Timely, proficient, and good customer service. From the initial phone call when I was explained what the experience with the service representative would be like, to the actual fixing of the breakage created by Centerpoint Energy. I'd take a few stars from Centerpoint and give them to BFP if I could. It wasn't cheap, but the technician went above and beyond which is why I would certainly recommend them to anyone.
