Hallam is the most respectful person. He has been working in my 60+ year old home on several occasions and we have always been more than satisfied with his work, service, explanations and advice. People who complain about the price don't get it how hard a job being a plumber is.

if zero stars could be awarded that's what you would be getting. It's always great to see a business price gouge the elderly you invoiced an 80 year old woman $87 to show up and then $432 for a gasket for her toilet that cost $7.92 at Home Depot. As I can see, my 80 year old mother-in-law is not the only victim in this case. And since there are more reviews showing the same scenario, the local news is about to make you famous.

My first experience with BF Plumbing: 2019: They inspected to give me an estimate for running a water service line, they never called me back, even after more calls to them. Going elsewhere. Second Experience: Jun 2021: I just wasted $1564 with these guys. I had a water leak somewhere on an 800' water service line to my home & apartments. Before scheduling a visit, I asked lots of questions about their experience, """"state of the art"""" equipment, and success rate. I scheduled my estimate appointment and provided my current job address. Their office scheduler called and said that their senior tech (John) would be there in about 45 minutes. I waited at my job site, and about 90 minutes later I get another call, telling me that he was at a previous property that I had sold months before and was not my current address. So, another 15 minute wait while he drove to the right location... all the while I'm waiting for him by the street in my car. As it says on their trucks, """"If there is any delay, it's you we pay.."""" Damned Lie. A nice guy, he walked the water line, looking for damp spots and probing (pointed steel rod) along the way. He didn't find the source of the leak and suggested that he use his acoustic listening probe to find the leak. He continuously explained how successful he had been with it and had always found the leak, even with pipes located beneath concrete and an asphalt driveways, with lesser flows and more depth. With this assurance, he spent 35 minutes drafting an estimate/contract while I again waited in my car. (The listening device is essentially what The Lone Ranger's friend, Tonto would do by putting his ear to the ground.. but with more amplification.) With his """"gofer"""" tapping on the pipe, John was able to hear and locate the pipes under the driveways. Yet, after 4+ hours, he was unable to find the leak. His time, my time and my $1564 are lost... for nothing. John lost about 30 minutes of time when the probe's rechargeable battery went dead and required recharging. Poor planning from either not charging before leaving the shop or not charging during the lunch break caused this time loss. Also, the choice of equipment without a swappable battery was a poor choice. I asked if they had the proper high-tech equipment & training when I called to schedule my visit. They assured me that they did. After the failure to find the fault, he explained that if the leak doesn't """"spray,"""" it may not make enough """"noise"""" to be heard. Obviously, they did not have the best equipment for the job. (It was a halfway step between the pointed stick and something much better.) A better choice might have been to use a tracer gas system, such as a Variotech 460, which forces a compressed gas into the pipe and senses that gas on the surface. The gas is lighter than air, moving upward (vs downward like water) toward the surface through porous surfaces like concrete or asphalt. Overall, the company was poorly managed, poorly equipped and I felt lacked veracity when professing their past success in leak locating. Their saying, """"The Punctual Plumbers"""" is bull. Update Nov 2021.. After the failed attempt by BFP, I called a locally recommended plumber, Plumbing By Greg. Using essentially the same piece of equipment and a shovel, he was able to locate and repair my leak. I guess it is a matter of skill and experience... Obviously, a corporate name means nothing. Avoid BFP.

Extremely overpriced. They fixed a leak in our relatively new irrigation system for us a year ago and it was right at $1,000. We agreed and were under the impression it would take several hours to repair. Nope. Done in an hour. We developed a leak in the same location a week ago and called them back because their prior work was under warranty. Of course, after the tech digs up the yard, he tells us it's a different issue, not under warranty, and would cost close to $1,100. We said that was too expensive and he knocked off approx. $200. I did not want to agree, but my husband wanted the leak fixed today. I should have said no. This time he was finished in 45 minutes. NEVER AGAIN!! We could have almost had an entire new irrigation system installed for the cost of two repairs - in the same area. Probably will leak again next year, but we won't be calling Benjamin Franklin Plumbing.

My husband and I had a representative from Ben Franklin Plumbing come out last week, during the emergency hours. We agreed to pay the higher rate for this because of the regular hours would not work for our work schedule. The tech arrived and was very professional, and a nice and friendly guy, and it was nice that the service center called us when the technician was on his way. We had gotten their name from a local plumbing company that had come by earlier to look at the issue, and did not have the equipment to do the job (the other company did not charge us, since they couldn't help us). However, we were looking for answers on why our pipes were bubbling... we mentioned that there is a vent on the roof, and the tech said 'well that wouldn't be fun to go up in the dark'. This seemed to be his consensus on most things to check out throughout the night.... I felt as if we had a very incomplete inspection, I agree that it wouldn't be fun to check things out in the dark, but then don't agree to come out that late and charge $129. Then he quoted us for a lot of different work that was not going to solve the original problem. It took a lot of questioning on our part to realize it was going to be one big bill followed by another by the time they did all the work. We did ask to buy the 'bio-clean' product they suggested, and he didn't have any on the truck. Overall, we ended up not purchasing any services from them except for the service call, and did not find their inspection to be thorough.

We had communication issue on both sides after the initial repair. I screen my calls and did not get the phone calls. Today the Benjamin Franklin team came out and did find a crack in the pipe that was missed the first go around. They replaced the copper and did a professional repair. I may add that I have used plumbers in the past that would have not cared about a mistake. All companies have mistakes now and then and it is the way they correct things that set good companies from bad ones. Benjamin Franklin was determined to make things right. I am now happy and will go back to Benjamin Franklin for my plumbing needs.

If I could leave NO STARS I would. Called and emailed about slow draining pipes as well as garbage disposal backing up. NO RESPONSE. My dishwasher just flooded my kitchen. Could have been avoided if they had responded last week when I asked.

Just a terrible experience all around. The drip pan on my water heater constantly had water in it after I replaced the elements. I presumed it was a faulty pressure release valve. I agreed to pay the """"emergency"""" rate to have someone come out at 9 pm on a Sunday evening. The tech arrived promptly. He brought no tools, except for a knife, into the house and proceeded to unscrew the panels covering the elements with said knife, scratching the water heater in the process. No leaks there, so I was told that the water heater itself was cracked and needed to be replaced. The quote was for well over $1,000. The unit was under parts warranty, so I declined the service until I could speak with the manufacturer about the warranty. The tech pulls out his tablet to charge me for the call. Says there will be a 4% service charge for using a credit card, to which I agree. I then look at the bill on his tablet and he's got the 4% service charge (the emergency call was around $100) listed as a $40 charge. I tried to explain that this was a 40% fee and was incorrect, but he runs the """"math"""" again and says the credit card fee is $40. I had to go grab a calculator and physically show him the numbers before he agreed to only charge $4. Imagine someone standing in your living room at 10 pm trying to charge you a 40% fee for using a credit card. Had I not been able to convince him that his math was wrong, I suppose I would have just paid the $40 extra and disputed the charge at a later date. In his defense, he was very polite throughout the interaction. In the end, the water heater had a faulty pressure relief valve ($15 part) and didn't need to be replaced after all. Rheem, the water heater manufacturer, had another plumbing service come out and fix the unit for a grand total of $35 (less than the """"credit card fee""""!) It has worked perfectly ever since. I called Benjamin Franklin 4 times to try and explain the situation and avail of their """"100% Satisfaction Guarantee"""". Each time I was greeted amicably, told that they were aware of the issue, were reviewing it, and would call me back the next day. Not once did they call me back. So, in the end, I paid over $100 for a Benjamin Franklin plumber to scratch my water heater with a knife, incorrectly diagnose the problem, and demand a 40% service fee for using a credit card. I then tried to resolve the situation privately and was brushed off, despite a """"100% Satisfaction Guarantee"""" that apparently means nothing in reality. My advice: Take your business elsewhere; at the very least, proceed with caution when using Benjamin Franklin.

The """"unethical"""" plumber.I wish there was a """"0"""" star rating. They installed a damaged...fell off a truck damaged water heater under my house and said NOTHING of the damage. I saw it the following weekend when I went under the house to look at it. Neither the tech or Quinton who inspected the job said anything to us. I called to complain and was told they would have to come look at it which they did one day and replaced it the next. My time I had to take off work those 2 days, my gas $ and the extra 50 gallons of water to refill it meant nothing to them when I asked for some form of compensation. Sandra told me they made it right and that I was beligerant! Their tech supervisor James is a total jerk...very argumentative and refused to answer simple questions like, why did they originally install a commercial grade heater and the replacement said residential on it. He told me that it must have been a mistake but he would go get a commercial grade and charge me the difference...wtf! The day before he said I would be getting the same unit. He also ripped vinyl siding away from my house getting out of the crawl space, but that means nothing to them either. Point is if this was an honest company I would have been informed of the damage before the 1st install. Very shady and unethical company...STAY AWAY FROM BEN FRANKLIN PLUMBING IN GREENVILLE SC I wish there was a place to post photos!
