My experience with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing are similar to those expressed on Yelp dealing with gross overcharges for the simplest fixes. A ten minute repair taking less time than turning off water and a 6 inch hot water pipe replacement should not cost the same as a gold pipe. The initial inspection resulted discovery of a pin hole leak and the cost of repair. After agreeing to repair the 10 minute surgery occurred. At least the leak was plugged. Not so, it seems there was another pin hole 3 inches from the replaced pipe. The failure to see the 2nd hole is either incompetence or usurious pricing since the 2nd repair would not be entertained without charge under terms of non existent 2 yr warranty.
Last I am not sure but I was initially told that I needed a hot water heater which Franklin could supply at multiple monthly payments of several hundreds of dollars. At a cost I could not consider so he immediately switched to a less costly fix which I accepted.
Do not accept estimate until you know work involved as there is absolutely no relation between time expended and cost of repair.
William G B.A small pinhole leak in the hot water feed in our basement. Plumber came and replaced an 18"" piece of copper using crimp connections not even solder and he charged us $65 service fee plus $515 parts and labor
Absolute highway robbery. Sadly I was not home or o would have never signed off on this but I had tenants who needed this fixed ASAP. Never calling these crooks again.
Frankely L.I had a broken waste line under my basement floor in my East Northport home. Contacted Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, they arrived at the house in less than an hour. They repaired the broken waste line within 24 hours. They were extremely professional & courteous. I would definitely recommend them for hire in the future.
We called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to fix a small laundry pipe leak.
They recommend that we add more things to fix this leak. As we just wanted to fix the leak, we agreed to add these extra items. However, the company needed to cut the sheet rock out of the washing machine wall to replace the unit. They left the cutting unpatched and never repaired the wall. For the entire service, we paid more than $4,700.00. Then on Day 1 we Immediately called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and requested that they patch the wall properly. They said someone will call tomorrow. Day 2 we called again because no one had returned our call. I was told they will call back on Monday. Day 3 on a Wednesday we called again since we never received any call about this matter. Finally, Benjamin Franklin Plumbing said putting the sheet rock back in place was not part of the the price quote. They never notified us that they would not patch the wall. I find it dishonest that after paying more than $4,700 they would do such a mediocre job. I will NEVER recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbing for their service to any one. I feel they were not honest and did not inform us up front of their limited capacity and lack of quality and workmanship.
Just got quoted $1,400 dollars for a job that I had quotes for $500!! Then had to paid a service charge for this ridiculous quote. I just wish I had seen the reviews that they were crooks before I called them. Please save your story about how professional your techs are..... Let's discuss how unethical they are!!!
Bonnie N.I had a service call and was completely overcharged. I had no choice but to do the work but I later did research and found out I shouldn't have paid so much. I tried 3 times so far to contact a supervisor and have yet to get a call back. I wanted an itemized bill to see why I was charged so much. In addition they gave me an estimate for something else I needed for over $600. I said I'd wait. I later called another plumber and was quoted under $200 for the same problem. This is absurd and such a scam. They should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of desperate people.
I had a burst pipe that was leaking non-stop. A simple problem. A young kid showed up and asked $1500 for the repair. Since I had a plane to catch and had no time to shop for a fair price, I reluctantly agreed.
After an hour, (half of which he spent talking to me), and roughly $20 worth of new piping installed, he announced that he was done.
When I called the management the following day to question their outrageous pricing, they refused to return my call. I called the next day again only to have some make-believe manager tell me that the pricing ""is what it is"" and that they have ""a lot of overhead to cover"".
I asked him if he was aware of what was done. He mentioned 3 things one of which the plumber did not do (open a hole in the wall). The opening was already made for him.
When I mentioned that his repairman worked for hardly an hour with $20 worth of materials spent, he was wordless. Frankly, I was disgusted by their behavior.
There are plenty of dishonest plumbers on Long Island but these folks are in a league by themselves.
They are shameless. They WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE of you. At all costs, STAY AWAY FROM THESE THIEVES!
Be careful. This company is a rip off.
They were charging me $1042+ tax to replace 2 toilet fill valves
I had to pay $74.50 service fee, which I promptly paid and sent the technician packing.
Subsequently, purchased 2 fill valves from Home Depot for $10.84 each and replaced it myself in 30 minutes.
called them to fix leaky kitchen sink and slow drain at my fathers house. i was working when they came they did the repairs in two hours and billed him 1220.00.now the drain, tailpipe w/dishwasher takeoff cost on the high side 50.00 so that means 1170.00 is the labor for two hours work. this company has not gotten back to me to explain this.either they take advantage of the elderly or they just rip people off as a business practice.WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE.
Ripoff. Charged me $1,000 for unclog my sewer line after sandy. After 2 months, it happened again, hired another company, did a better job for only $100.
