Called to ask about a quote to replace 2 fully functioning toilets. The man who answered the phone was very hard to understand. Slurred his speech and spoke like he was reading a script and did not care.

He told me he needed to send a tech to assess the situation for $79 then would schedule another trip to com back to install the toilets for an additional $79 charge on top of the price of work.

So I asked what if I buy toilets and you come out and install them. H refused to give me a price or even a ballpark.

After reading the other reviews I understand why they don't even have a 3 star.

Their first plumber tried to over quote us without bother looking around the house to see what we have first.

We complained and ask for a second plumber and he was 3 hours late in the next appointment.

Beware, these guys overcharge and up sell things that are not needed.

Our main sewer backed up over the weekend. We tried to snake it ourselves but the blockage was out of reach of our 50' snake. We hoped to hold off till Monday to call a local plumber to avoid the extra weekend charges, but a rain storm started filling our lines Saturday night to the point where the water in the toilets started to rise on their own.

So we decided to bite the bullet and call a 24/7 plumber. We looked up the first company that came to mind but their website was down and the phone number listed on the "maintenance page" went to a personal VM of somebody--!?

So we found Benjamin Franklin through a search engine and made the call at 2AM on a stormy Saturday night--we were relieved to reach a live pleasant person who sounded totally sharp and awake, and within an hour we had a plumber snaking our drain and scoping the problem with a camera--roots in the line! He got things going good enough to get us thru the weekend, but we opted to go for a repair ASAP. So he laid out the schedule of the job that would begin Monday morning thru Tuesday, including excavation, **permits**, repair, city inspection and backfill. (He was even at our place Sunday morning marking the job site so things could start first thing Monday!)

Everything went smoothly and exactly as expected--no surprises--we were very impressed! Everyone at the company were very communicative and reassuring throughout the job. They called us with updates and were available to answer any questions that came to mind. They were fast and did a great job.

They're not inexpensive, but in our emergency situation we weren't expecting it. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone who needs a plumber.

To have pleasant people at your service at 3am on a stormy Saturday night--WOW! Thank you!!

I called them because I received a post card in the mail for a free trip call charge, I needs a kitchen faucet that I had purchased installed. The plumber seemed nice enough, I had tried to get a ball park figure when I called and was told that could not be done. When he came to the house, on time, he quoted me $315 to put in a faucet and wanted to replace the two shut off valves for $250 each. The total would have been over $850 to do a job that would not have taken him an hour. Those are ridiculous charges.

I guess most people call a plumber in an emergency and really don't care what it it costs to fix the problem. Seems this company takes full advantage of that circumstance. What a shame, what ever happened to a fair price for a fair job! If you call them be ready to pay through the nose..

I had used Benjamin Franklin several times and the technicians seemed knowledgeable and friendly. I had some issues with my guest bathroom and they came out and gave me an estimate of $10,000 to fix it!!! You heard right. They told me it was all the trenching to go under my house and they would do the plumbing for free. What a SCAM. I had another plumbing company that I got from Angie's List come out and they did all the replacement work and trenching for $3800.00. I would warn everyone against using Benjamin Franklin. Total scam.

They scheduled the appointment quickly and arrived within the time they specified. That is the only positive thing I can say. I had other estimates for the work I needed and they were four times more than that. When questioned the tech could not provide a plausible explanation. He wanted to increase the scope of work well beyond what the job called for. I will do everything to warn people not to utilize them.

I've been using them for quite some time, and had some very good experiences with them in the past.

Yesterday I noticed a very bad leek in a bathroom. Called and they had a spot from 1-3 today.

I got a call at 1230 saying they had to change the appointment to 3-5. That was wired, but fine.

It's now 745 and still no plumber and no call. Only good news is that I'll make some money on the deal.

For others who use the service- use coupons! They become very reasonable with the right coupon.

they are the highest priced-quoted plumbing service i have ever dealt with! the techs are ok.....but next time they try to rob someone, bring a gun!
my quote: replace a 50 gal gas water heater: $1649! really dude! to changed one kitchen standard faucet: $599. i was floored! these guys are absolutely a scam!!!! the last straw was when i asked for the make and model of the water to be installed: they told me i would find out what it is when it shows up.
highway robbery!! buyer beware all: Benjamin Franklin plumbing!

here is a great hint: purchase your water heater from a dealer; sears, home depot, lowes, locke supply and then go to red beacon dot com, a home depot contractor site like angies list, but free for the consumer got an awesome install bid of $200 from a lic master plumber, bonded and insured and a kick @$$ water heater for $400 from locke supply. 9 yr warranty. :) saved money.....great service and i told ben to take a hike!

benjamin, you have no ethics......and you are a disgrace in the plumbing industry! shame on you!!!

Highly over-priced and unprofessional!

I recently called this plumber out to do work on my rent house because our regular plumber was booked. At first the seemed great. But then it got awful.

I should first tell you that their prices are more than double what any other plumber charges. Not an exaggeration. They quoted me $503 just to snake the house from the roof. I have had this done before and didn't pay anywhere near that. I was so shocked I called the company before agreeing to pay. I also called 3 other plumbers to get quotes for comparison. The 3 other quotes ranged from $117 to $189 for the exact same service.

I tried to reason with the guy at the main office and ask him why the prices were so high. Finally I agreed to pay ONLY because my renters were short on time and I didn't want to make them wait for another plumber. At that point the service manager told me, "I don't think it's in our best address to service this house since you seem to be upset about the price". I couldn't believe it. I told him, again that it was fine and I would just pay it. He refused and told me they wouldn't do it.

So, I am just warning you. Double the price and unprofessional. When I called another plumber, they were not surprised to hear that Ben Franklin charged that much. They just laughed and said "Yeah, we have heard".

Good luck and fair warning.

If you got money to waste choose this company.Several month ago they installed a new water heater at my house. A few weeks later we discovered a leak cause of poor sodering.Luckily our city requires automatic shutoff sensor in case off leak. This saved us from major flooding. In october 2013 we discovered a leak in our yard.We called Benjamin Franklin .The same mechanic showed up and told us about 500 dollar for the first 2 hours digging and leak locating. He started digging at the water meter and quickly run out of daylight since it was in the afternoon. He told us he would be back in the morning, that he was in experts in leak detection and bring a geo phone (what ever that is) and quickly find the leak.He came back with a couple of hispanic diggers which even spoke english. They kept up digging and tearing up the yard.In the meantime he approached us with an $4300 cost estimate.Everything was torn up in the front yard and we reluctantly agreed. He finally found the leak next to the house foundation. He sodered in a new piece of copperpipe, added a second shutoff valve close to the house were the leak was.You would think a guy with his selfproclaimed experience level would figure out earlier were the leak is.He was was just running up the bill. After very poorly covering up the trenches they dug they left after we paid. Not surprisingly last week we had another leak in the front yard, called Benjamin Franklin. The same mechanic showed up went strait were he previously sodered and said his soder did not hold(warranty coverage). He resodered and left without making sure there was no more leak.Sure enough there was still a leak at another spot were they previously dug it up chasing the leak.We called them again and after dark another mechanic showed up and said they had not worked at that area and it was not covered by their warranty.Called the manager in charge and he told me the same thing.I dug it up finally my self and somebody had damaged our sprinklerline to the shut off valve when they previously dug it up and it finally leaked.I fixed it myself took me 1 hour.No courtesy at all from this company. Save your hard earned dollars and run away from this company. If I could give this service a 1/2 star I would. . Gross overcharge of service. bill. Ridiculous. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE, EVER! BIGGEST RIP OFF EVER. PRICING RIDICULOUS.
