Lloyd was very prompt, right on time at the beginning of the appointment window that was provided, and also called when he was 30 minutes away as promised. He offered some overall tips and educated me on how my house was wired. His installation of all 3 outdoor fixtures was fast, efficient and tidy. Will definitely hire this company and this electrician again!
This place is the COMCAST of electrical servicing. I called Beacon and asked for an estimate for installation of two ceiling fans. I was told that ""someone"" would be at my home between 8am and 10am a couple days later. On that morning, I woke up at 745am to get ready for the installer. I had a message on my phone at 730am from ""Nick"" who said he would be at my house between 745am and 8am. I hurriedly dressed and waited for him to arrive. A little after 8am, I called ""Nick"". He said since I didn't call back, he went on to another job. I was NOT aware there was a mandatory call-back policy, and if I didn't call back ""within 15 minutes of their call"" they would move on to another job. I am leaving town and cannot get the fans installed for several weeks now. I dropped Comcast back in 2004 when they forced me to wait around all day for someone to service my cable. Beacon has a really bad business practice and it's not customer friendly. I would recommend avoiding them. I have no idea why they are listed in the ""Five Star Rated"" home service review for Alexandria. If I have anything to do with it, they won't be any longer. There are enough other good electricians in the area that don't have such ridiculous ""call back"" appointment policies.
I decided to try this company because of the good reviews on Yelp. I went to the website and used the ""schedule service"" link and waited a couple of days, but got no response. So, I called and requested an appointment and was told that the technician would come between 8am-12pm. Around 10am, the office called and said the tech was running late and would be there a bit later than 12pm, which was fine. At 3pm, he still had not arrived so I called the office and was told he was on his way to another ticket and might be at our house by 5:30 or 6:00pm. I initially agreed to this since we have a problem we'd like to get resolved, but then called back and cancelled as that timing is too disruptive and inconvenient and I'd already wasted an entire day waiting for the electrician to arrive. We will be using a different company to resolve our issue.
I called and scheduled an estimate for an attic fan install. A few days later the receptionist called me to reschedule for a later date...no problem. That rescheduled date came and no one showed up. My husband and I had other things to do so I called to see if anyone was coming....30 mins after the scheduled appointment. The lady I spoke to couldn't help me with trying to find out if anyone was coming. I'm not even sure she was completely awake (it was 9 am per the original request). She took my info and told me someone would call me back. No one ever did. I understand being busy but this was just plain bad customer service. Looks like I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
Way over priced. To the point I would say the are a rip-off. Appear to know their job but you'll pay.
Michael B.I hired Beacon Electric to do several repairs around the house. I cannot recommend them enough! I have hired many contractors over the tears, and what impressed me the most, aside from their effective communication and punctuality, was their attention to detail. So many contractors try to take shortcuts, and the technician handling my repairs did all of them with high quality solutions. They will be the first nam that comes to mind whenever a friend or family member needs an electrician referral from me!
Nv V.To provide context, I am a new home owner. I was trying to save $ and make my house looks great/ have the functionality I needed. So, if you are a homeowner, trying to save $ and make your house look great - go with Beacon - at the end of the day - they are your best bet. I would even ask for Victor and Omar by name (not sure if this is possible)- cause they were simply fantastic. Most businesses try to satisfy the customers. Beacon's team of Victor and Omar (and Heidi on the phone) left me simply impressed.
If you are looking at this review - you are probably comparing the many electrician options available in the area, with great reviews and whatnot. Based on the reviews on yelp, I scheduled three companies to provide quotes on work to be done in my house. This work included running an HDMI cable through the ceiling between floors, hiding cable wires, installing additional power outlets (one on the ceiling for the projector), etc.
One of the companies quoted me $117/hr (with yelp discount) and stated that the job seems simple enough and should take no more than 3 hours.
Beacon Electrical Services refused to provide a quote without seeing the premise, and waived to dispatch fee to send out Victor Figueroa. Victor toured the entire house with me, took diligent notes about all my requirements, and made sure he understood the scope of the work. Once the walk through was completed, victor made a suggestion about the type of lighting I was using. He said it would conflict and not give me the results I wanted. He made a recommendation - but this was not an up sell or a pressure sales environment. It was simply a recommendation. I liked what he said, and decided to go with it. During the assessment Victor agreed with the other company's assessment that this SHOULD be a simple job and SHOULD take no more than 4 hours. He quoted me a price (higher than the other company's ($117 x 3 or 4) but I decided to go with Beacon Electrical Services because I wanted a fix price contract, and because Victor was easy to work with.
Victor and Omar came back to do the job. What should have been a very simple, get in drill a hole here and there, and get out - turned out to be probably one of the toughest installs for these guys. They ran into studs everywhere they went (the house has horizontal and vertical studs) which required them to drill additional holes. They explained to me why each hold was being drilled, and the situation and asked for permission before proceeding. Seeing my face about a bunch of holes being made in a new house, Omar and Victor assured me that the wall can easily be patched up and made as if nothing was ever done. Omar, also game me simple DIY tips on doing the work myself.
In the end - what again, should have been a easy 3-4 hour job became an extremely hard 8+ hour job. The entire time Victor and Omar remained courteous, calm and professional. They did a phenomenal job with the entire work. I applied the patch work that Omar showed me and the walls/ceiling looks like Beacon never showed up. The house looks great, and all my requirements were met. The best part was - the price of the contract did not change even though these two had to go through so much more than what was initially expected.
Marcus L.Recently we needed electrical work done, the main item, the dryer receptacle, turned out to be a serious hazard. Found Beacon and gave them a call after reviewing comments on Yelp. Spoke with Victor and, after setting an appointment, he gave me the rundown on how their process works. Informed transparency sums it up. Francis made the initial visit. He, again, covered how they operate and we discussed what was needed and wanted done. Francis did a thorough evaluation and walk-though, noting the serious hazard of the primary issue. He resolved the safety hazard aspect on the spot, even before getting to developing an estimate or our accepting them to do the job. In his comments, he made suggestion as to other points we should consider. Once he had a clear idea of what was to be done, an estimate was worked up and presented to us with explanation of the work and the way forward. Once we accepted the estimate, the work visit was set-up and the work expeditiously accomplished. The time frames set were met, with a heads-up call prior to the visits. Cost was clear and met. Throughout, there was effective communications and careful attention paid to our home. Francis and Victor both conveyed professionalism and confidence in their work. I would do business again with Beacon and recommend anyone in the area to include them for consideration.
When we moved to Great Falls, we knew we had to get a generator. During our first few months of living here, we lost power for a few hours about once a week -- no joke. There was no rhyme or reason -- we'd lose power on sunny days with no storms nearby. Trees fall on lines all the time around here. We found Beacon and scheduled an estimate with Bob, the owner. He came out to talk about the process of installing a whole-house generator. This is not a small task -- we didn't realize how many steps were involved. At many points there could have been issues (when dealing with the county, or connecting a gas line from our propane tank to the generator, or during the 2-day installation), but it went very smoothly. It did take a few weeks to get on the schedule, but this seems to be the case with other companies as well. While we were waiting for the install date, we were fortunate to not have any significant power outages (and then a few days after the generator was up and running, our power was out for 15 hours -- go figure -- but we didn't care, because we had power thanks to our generator!). The electricians did the job on what had to have been the hottest day of 2013, and they were always very professional and cheerful throughout. We hope to use Beacon for other electrical needs in the future and recommend them without hesitation to anyone looking to install a generator. The price was excellent and so was the service. And it's important to point out that Beacon does not collect the final portion of the payment until the county signs off on the generator saying it is properly installed. I wish all contractors were this good!
Shevonne P.I got a courtesy call the day before to confirm my appointment, and let me know what time the electricians were supposed to arrive. They came promptly at the time that they were meant to come. At first, the basement was supposed to get six recessed lights, but the electrician Steven said that was a bit much and recommended four. I was happy about that because it showed how honest he was. I told them that I wanted the outlets checked in the bathroom, and they did that as well.
When I got back, I didn't recognize the place. The basement was bright, and the recessed lights were very nice. They only made two holes, which I was happy about. The kitchen impressed me even more. They used put recessed lights on the holes left over from the hideous light fixtures that we took down before they arrived, so there was minimal damage the ceiling.
Overall, I was very impressed. They did an amazing job, and honest on top of that. Definitely would recommend them.
