Bay Area Drainage, Inc
Company Overview
Bay Area Drainage, Inc. specializes in drainage systems for residential and commercial clients throughout Contra Costa, Alameda, and Solano Counties. Our services extend to building retaining walls and installing sump pumps, synthetic lawns, and pavestone driveways and walkways. Every drainage system is customized to fit the local landscape and is carefully excavated around existing features.
We pride ourselves on our careful attention to detail. A site supervisor manages every project, ensuring quality control, and upon completion, we clear away all debris and conduct a thorough clean-up.
We excel in installing French drain systems, which can connect to downspout systems, sump pumps, and area drains. We adopt a minimally invasive method for French drain installation by tunneling under plants to minimize disruption to root systems. “French drains mitigate the adverse effects of moisture,” states our owner Wayne, “such as mold, mildew, damaged flooring, and conditions favorable for termites.”
Our areas of expertise also encompass Under Floor Drains, Downspout Systems, Subdrain Systems, Sump Pumps, Retaining Walls, Pavestone Driveways & Walkways, Synthetic Turf, Pool Demolitions, Concrete Demolitions and re-pour, Irrigation, and Landscaping.
Bay Area Drainage was started by Wayne to ensure customers receive trustworthy and professional service. He personally conducts each estimate and partners with you to develop the best options for your specific needs. We prioritize customer satisfaction above all else. Rest assured, you are in skilled hands.

Completed a project with Bay Area Drainage in February 2019. Throughout the entire process, Mara was very responsive to all my questions. I was told the entire project would take 12 working days. Taking into consideration a couple days were skipped due to weather (rainy season), the project completed on time. Work included temporary removal of a deck and a set of stairs, both of which were replaced well (wouldn't know they were removed if I didn't see it myself). Overall, very happy with the service I received and would recommend them again.
Cynthia L.I don't know what's wrong with the company but when my dad wanted to get a quote, he accidentally booked B.A.D right behind another company's person for a quote. The guy from B.A.D came and was irritated, did the same thing as other 1-star reviews here say. Seemed disinterested and all. Then despite us using time to show the guy around, he straight up ghosted us afterwards. We had a pretty big project we wanted done but I guess the company is picky, downright rude for no communication, and just irritated that they might have competition??? Okay...bye Felicia. Go find a less competitive area then.
Good luck getting them to follow up with you. Our situation pretty much echoes Susie T's. They came out, spent a few minutes here, without even addressing what we asked of the estimator. We were promised a quote within a couple of days and never got it until we called him. We asked him to come out again, so he could talk to our neighbor too, and he didn't call back.
Susie T.Disinterested and no follow through seem to be a common issue with this company. Wayne Ortland came out and literally spent 13 minutes (maybe) surveying our drainage issue. Left his card and promised a bid in a couple of days. Never to be heard from again. Why waste my time and yours? If you don't want the work it seems like good public relations to at least let someone know you aren't interested in the business.
Was referred by two prior clients of theirs. The owner came out to give a quote, spent about 2 minutes and seemed very disinterested. On that alone, I would ordinarily call it good, but my friend said he was that way when quoting, but on top of everything for the work, so I let it go.
I get the quote and it is reasonable, but I need them to clarify a few things that I asked about, but were not in the quote. I emailed back saying I would like to get the work booked and can we please clarify as to the questions I had. The office manager says she will get a response in a few days. A few days later no response. I follow up, still no response. I follow up again, saying I would like to schedule and get the bid finalized. Still no response.
I really don't like having my time wasted and cannot understand why the owner would waste his time to come out and give a quote to not even respond when you say you want to book the work.
Oh, I was fortunately able to find a great contractor that did a great job through another referral. Messinna's Landscaping from Oakley.
I'd really like to give them 6 stars... they were a pleasure to work with and did an amazing job.
We had Bay Area Drainage create a french drain system around our entire house as well as deal with the outflow of water off of our (fairly flat) property. Javier was the foreman for our project.
I was very impressed and delighted with how our project was handled from the time he and the crew started until it was completed. Javier was always available to answer question when I had them, and solve problems when they came up. He listens to concerns and requests/preferences and handles everything in a calm competent manner that I found reassuring and relaxing to work with. The crew were very friendly and professional and did a great job with everything.
We no longer have water in our basement when it rains (yay!), nor a small lake outside our back door and the water from downspouts and various parts of our yard is flowing away smoothly.
I would recommend them without hesitation.
Marika D.Bay Area Drainage came out to evaluate the water issue that shows up in my basement when it rains.
Dave was personable, very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I can not afford the work that needs to be done right now but he gave me some great tips to bandaid the problem in the meantime.
I am grateful for the input he gave me.
I highly recommend this company!
They came to site to provide recommendations and a site map of drainage in our backyard.. it took 2 months to finally get the map and it was incorrect . First they had an issue with the camera, then they sketched a map that combined the drainage when it fact their is two separate lines.. they gave me the run around at least 6 different times via email and on the phone .. very unprofessional and arrogant . I moved to a different company and they were able to correct the issue for 350.00 when Bay Area said the cost was going to be 6000.00 . recommend you shop their price and get a second opinion..
Mark C.During an extremely wet winter this year, we had devastating water intrusion in our crawl space and lower living area. This week, Bay Area Drainage finished installing a 2-tier french drain system for our south Walnut Creek home. They were one of 3 companies who gave us bids. All the bids were within a very small range (Bay Area Drainage was in the middle of the other two). We selected them due to other Yelp reviews, Diamond cert (not entirely sure what that is), and we liked Wayne's plan for handling water collected in an outdoor planter area better than the others.
We were originally told that their backlog was 10-12 weeks. Turns out it was about 5 weeks longer than that. I had to exchange a few calls and emails in order to lock down a date after their original start date estimate had passed.
However, the work was worth the wait. Each day the crew showed up before 7:30a and completed around 3p. They were all very professional and competent. Wayne originally estimated it would take 11-15 days. They finished their initial work in 6 days. I had to ask them to come back to finish work in the planter area, which they did the following week. The confusion was due to a miscommunication about the scope of the work. It wasn't entirely clear in the written agreement. However, they handled the discrepancy to our complete satisfaction and finished that additional work in only one day.
Overall, we could not be happier with our new drains. Our yard, crawl space, and planter area look better than they did before they began! Landscaping and irrigation lines were reinstalled and the foundation was properly waterproofed. I'm worried that, after making this huge investment, we will begin another long drought. If not, I'm confident that our basement will remain bone dry through all future record rainy seasons. Thanks guys!
We highly recommend Bay Area Drainage.
Carolyn B.We had Bay Area Drainage put in a french drain along the back, uphill side, and partial front of our house this winter, and they also installed new subsurface drainage tying in the roof downspouts. Wayne was very helpful explaining the bid and the job before we went into contract. Javier and his crew then did a great job once the weather held off long enough for them to get to work. They completed the job with no surprises, faster than expected, and cleaned up our property every day before they went home. Glad to have this project complete and happy with the result.
