Bay Area Drainage, Inc
Company Overview
At Bay Area Drainage, Inc., we offer drainage systems tailored for homes and businesses across Contra Costa, Alameda, and Solano Counties. We also construct retaining walls and install sump pumps, synthetic lawns, and pavestone driveways and walkways. We tailor each drainage system to the landscape, ensuring careful excavation around existing elements.
We are recognized for our thorough attention to detail. A dedicated site supervisor oversees all work, and after project completion, we take care of all leftover materials and execute a comprehensive clean-up.
We excel in installing French drain systems, which can connect to downspout systems, sump pumps, and area drains. We use a minimally invasive technique for French drain installation, tunneling below plants to reduce impact on root systems. “French drains mitigate the adverse effects of moisture,” states our owner Wayne, “such as mold, mildew, damaged flooring, and conditions favorable for termites.”
Our areas of expertise also encompass Under Floor Drains, Downspout Systems, Subdrain Systems, Sump Pumps, Retaining Walls, Pavestone Driveways & Walkways, Synthetic Turf, Pool Demolitions, Concrete Demolitions and re-pour, Irrigation, and Landscaping.
Bay Area Drainage was started by Wayne to ensure customers receive trustworthy and professional service. He personally conducts each estimate and partners with you to develop the best options for your specific needs. Your satisfaction is our main focus. You can feel confident knowing you are in expert hands.

Bay area drainage did french drains and pavers at our house a few months ago. The work was done right and we have been dry ever since. Thanks Wayne and Javier!!

Bay Area Drainage redid our entire front yard along with laying pavers in the driveway. They showed up every day on time and cleaned up each evening. Everyone we dealt with was polite and professional. Our project was finished ahead of time. Any follow up that was needed was promptly taken care of. I would highly recommend Bay Area Drainage

I had Bay Area Drainage (Wayne) out maybe a year or more ago. For whatever reason, he completely ignored my request for services. He did not explain, nor did he even bother to call me back after the multiple times I asked him to.

In middle of July this year, BAD was one of the three contractors I reached out for a resolution to the drainage problem at one of my rental properties. They checked the property and sent me a proposal via email. Based on their proposal and the good reviews here on Yelp, I was ready to hire them then. However, I just had one question/concern I needed an answer before I accept/sign their proposal. First, I responded to their email with my question. I waited a few days, no response. So I called their office number, but got the recorder instead. I left a detailed message on my question/concern. I waited a few days. No response just the same. So I moved on. I should have paid more attention to the bad reviews than the good ones.

Bay Area Drainage recently replaced our 1,400 sq. foot back yard lawn with turf (in Walnut Creek). Their crew was lead by Javier. The crew was professional, neat and cleaned the area well each night.
The project took about 4 days to complete. Very happy with the quality of and the company.

I decided to remove all the grass from my front yard due to the drought. It seems like the right thing to do but it was a tough decision since one is so accustomed to seeing green grass in front of a home. I knew I would need tremendous expertise in making this transformation into a new shade garden which would please me. So, i thought of Paul Perillo of Bay Area Drainage as he is the EXPERT in landscaping. Paul knows so much about plants and floras; his depth of knowledge is truly amazing. Paul and I discussed numerous facts about my yard and what look I wanted to achieve. He really listens to you and wants you to be happy with his work. We went back and forth with the list of plants as he sent many options to ensure I was pleased with the overall plan. Paul recommended having my trees pruned before the project commenced which was a brilliant suggestion. The last thing you want after completing a landscaping project is to have trees pruned with all the mess and droppings. This is an example of how much Paul cares about the project and wants to please his clients.
The team arrived extremely promptly for work each day. They were very tidy in cleaning up each day and even during the day. They kept their tools and materials confined to the areas where they were required. Javier and his team were polite, cordial and professional in all their dealings. When I made a request, they compiled immediately. They were fabulous and even finished the project an entire day ahead of schedule!!!
To finish a project early, on budget and happy enough to use them again for any project - that is a testament to their level of customer commitment. They are simply the BEST!!!!

We interviewed about five different landscapers, but we ultimately went with Bay Area Drainage because we liked the work they did on our friend's yard and they were the most reasonable in cost. There were a couple other landscape companies who came in cheaper but after going through an interior renovation and working with ""bargain deal"" contractors, we learned our lesson - you get what you pay for! Don't get me wrong, the project was still expensive, but we are pleased with the results. We've even had a couple minor issues come up recently and Wayne, the owner, has been great about sending someone back to the house to troubleshoot.
The crew is very professional, polite and arrived on time every day. (A couple times I asked them to work around our baby's nap schedule due to the noise of their equipment and they were more than willing to accommodate us!) Plus, they're all FT employees which made me feel good that they use skilled laborers. Wayne even stopped by the project every now and then to check up on his team's work.
Wayne works with a plant expert, Paul Perillo, who was essentially the ""designer"" for our backyard. He's incredibly knowledgeable about trees/plants and made recommendations on what would work best in our yard - namely things that were drought- and deer-resistant and low-maintenance! He's not a professional designer, but he has a ton of experience and had some good ideas. I thought he did a nice job with our yard.
The one criticism I have is the lack of detail in their quote/contract. We had discussed installing bark in the back half of our yard and we assumed it was included in the quote. However, after the project started, we were told that it was not included. Unfortunately we didn't have anything in writing so the back half of our yard looks unfinished. :(
Overall though, we had a good experience with BAD. When we tackle our front yard, I will definitely call them again.

After getting multiple bids and consulting past customers, we chose to go with Bay Area Drainage for our much awaited yard renovation. Having had experience with different companies for past projects, I can honestly give Bay Area Drainage a full five stars. Wayne was personable, experienced and always available for questions and input from the proposal through the end of the project. The site manager, Javier, was equally personable, professional and respectful of our home. The crew arrived on time daily and always put in a full day to get through our project on time. We were made to feel that our project was their priority, not at all the experiences we'd had in the past. At the end of each day, the property was cleaned and fences secured until work would begin again the next morning. When one of the deliveries was delayed due to unforeseeable circumstances, the crew showed up on a Saturday morning to help stick to the original timeline. Everything came in on budget as promised and both wayne and Javier made themselves available post project for some add ons we chose AFTER the project was completed. I would absolutely use Bay Area Drainage again and recommend their services to anyone looking for a high quality, locally owned business.

If I could give this company zero stars, I would. Although initial work is acceptable, any follow up or follow through is non existent. The project manager is clueless and there's so much miscommunication between their employees. The prices are competitive, but it's just not worth the time and rework.

Business must be good for these guys. I say so because I called and left a message about clearing out a storm drain and never received a call back; not to tell me thanks, not to tell me they didn't do this kind of work; not to tell me to kiss their ... nada. So I got it done elsewhere, but the rudeness not to call back must be indicative of their business values. So, use them at your peril. Good luck.
