I own a 1920s vintage house in Albany that I love dearly (along with the neighbourhood). Yet older homes require extra work and sometimes in surprising ways. Take for example last Sunday. Gayle and I pulled up to the house to witness a water leak bubbling up through the sidewalk. We immediately called EBMUD and when the guy eventually showed up, we were informed that the line between their Main an the house had a leak. In other words, this was the home owner's responsibility. This situation and a broken sewer line are 2 key repair items most home owners dread.

I immediate called Glen Larsen (and Juan), my long time handy persons, who quickly confirmed the diagnosis and recommended Bart McCoy as the guy who could fix it. Bart picked up the phone immediately and clearly, calmly, and factually led me through the possibilities and the options. As it turned out, I had an old galvanized line that had to be completely replaced with copper (per code). It wasn't cheap, but you can't not have water in the house.

Bart came out the next day and we had water in the house by the late afternoon. He also tested everything inside to make sure it all worked. In addition, the concrete was expertly replaced, my landscaping was untouched, and the water valves were upgraded. I also appreciated that he did what he said he was going to do and when. And that's a great value for my money.

I also feel a lot better about that sewer line that will eventually need to be replaced...
