Barnes Plumbing Co. Inc. began when Jeff & Bill decided to open their own plumbing shop. They flipped a coin to decide who would take on the role of CEO and Vice-President. Initially operating from the basement of an apartment building near Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis, they quickly outgrew and secured their own location near Dowling Avenue and Interstate 94.
August of 2010, Bill and Jeff Barnes made the hard choice to retire. Michael Pemberton, a long-time employee, purchased the company. Michael upholds the same values that drove Bill and Jeff: integrity, transparency, and delivering top-notch service. Our success comes from word-of-mouth referrals. This approach has proven successful.

Buyer beware. Barnes plumbing were supposed to start my basement bathroom for a rough in today. during our conversation he told me his is member of Plumbers local 34 in St. Paul, MN This guy wanted me to show him the work. Then this guy became, very rude, pushy, mean, insulting. and condescending to me. He wanted measurements that I never had. When I told him I don't have them , He proceeded to say I am getting the hell out of here, Then I became angry told him to get the"" F ""out of my house. I do not need to be bullied and very disrespected in my own house. I am just a nice friendly common customer who wanted to make a home improvement.
Mike P who gave me the estimate never mentioned measurements.
When I called Barnes Plumbing to make a complaint Mike P told me they do not want to do the job. He lied to me saying we can't get there until September. He did say he would refund me my down payment money in the amount of $3166.68 for this $10,000 job. I did call my bank to make a dispute. I called Local 34 they referred me to the Mechanical Contractor association .
Barnes Plumbing has done work in my 1941-built house for close to ten years. Owner Mike recently installed a Symmons tub and shower system, Watco bathtub trim kit and Delta ADA grab bar. A Symmons remodel cover plate was necessary, and making it fit properly against the ceramic tile required replacing a copper riser behind the wall.
The toilet had been ghost flushing, so Mike replaced the flush valve and flapper. He also switched the old toilet handle for a better one.
Mike did the work quickly, thoroughly and at a very reasonable cost. He left the bathroom as clean as he found it.
One of his employees, no longer with the company, had replaced my centerset bathroom sink faucet a year ago.The grey gasket between the faucet body and sink had not been positioned perfectly but stuck out a wee bit on one side. I'm an admitted perfectionist--it irritated me every time I cleaned the sink. I mentioned the flaw to Mike but did not ask that he address it. Turns out, he's a perfectionist too--without a word, he made it right.
As for the office staff, your scheduling and billing will be done by one of the most pleasant women on the planet. Her name is Cathy. Or Kathy. Or Kathee. Or who knows in these days of weird spellings?
Andrew E.I would look elsewhere for a plumber.
They did the plumbing work and installed a new boiler less than 5 years ago in the home that I bought. The solder joint to the expansion tank was done poorly and leaked, which then shorted out my circulation pump, and thus caused me to lose heat last night. I'm very thankful that my friend and I made it to Menards before they closed, and that it failed a few weeks after we were out of country on vacation. That, and if it wasn't for friends this mistake would have ended up costing me hundreds if not up to a thousand for a emergency plumber visit.
I called a few companies and Barnes said they could fix our kitchen faucet a day later than I'd hoped, but still within the week. Sad to say, the guy showed up to fix the faucet and first said his office hadn't said anything about a faucet. Then he said he didn't have parts but that I could hunt down the parts myself, or that he could sell me a new faucet starting at about $300. He blamed their very nice secretary for not asking me enough questions. They don't stock the parts (they only carry parts for 2 brands, not even including Kohler). I'm disappointed, and hope that others have a better experience.
Rickard S.My Mom has used Barnes Plumbing in the past and they were our first call to help unclog the bathroom sink. Will did a marvelous job representing the company. He assessed the situation, went to the truck to get his tools and had the whole problem resolved in 45 minutes. Will is personable, polite, and was a pleasure to talk with before and after his work was done.
We will definitely call Barnes Plumbing for future plumbing work... remodeling as well as repairs and we'll definitely ask for Will to come again.
We highly recommend them!
I've used Barnes on two occasions--bathroom and bath tub plumbing related. Both the office staff and the plumbers were friendly, prompt, professional, clean and helpful. The plumbers answered all my questions and explained the work performed to resolve the issue(s) I called about. In addition, they took care to clean the work area after completing the work.
I recommend them to anyone needing plumbing work, and I will be using them in the future.
Barnes Plumbing was recommended to me by a Facebook friend. I hadn't used my shower for over a year because of a leak in the pipe inside the wall. The technician (unfortunately I can't remember his name) came all the way to my house in the western suburbs. After checking and testing everything there was no leak! Apparently sometimes this happens, maybe a piece of rust or sediment blocks what was obviously a small leak. He recommended placing a water alarm near the pipe so we would know right away if it leaked again. Very friendly and professional.
Best of all, when asked how much I owed him, expecting to pay for his time and all that travel, he told me nothing! He didn't do any work so I didn't owe any money. I was shocked, I've always paid for service calls in the past even if I didn't have work done.
Highly recommend. Superior service.
I called Barnes Plumbing to have them take care of some minor repairs around the house. The office staff was very friendly when I was scheduling the work and Chris the plumber who arrived was also very friendly and professional. He called 20 minutes before arriving, used boot covers the whole time, and was happy to answer many questions and explain various plumbing components throughout my newly purchased home. He also thoroughly tested his repairs and actually caught a small pipe crack that was overlooked at first. Labor rate seems average, but he charged me an extra 15 minutes when he had to run to the hardware store for a basic part. Overall, I am happy with the work and would recommend Chris to others needing plumbing service.
