Back in 1963 marked the beginning of Bernie Baker's, when he started a plumbing business on the Des Moines' east side. Equipped with a pickup truck, a few tools, a modest savings account,, and a commitment to quality work, he embarked on this modest venture. From this foundation, Baker Mechanical developed - as did Bernie's household.

By 1980, Bernie's son, BJ became part of Baker Mechanical. At first, BJ worked in the field, fulfilling his union apprenticeship, eventually earning his Master Plumber's license. Before long, BJ began project estimation and supervising projects.

By the late 1980s, BJ took over day-to-day operations from his father. Currently, BJ Baker III holds the position of Chairman and CEO of Baker Group. Under his leadership, the company has experienced expansion and transformation, skillfully managing difficult projects and broadening its services. Temperature controls were introduced in 1986, with a sheet metal service and service division in the 1990s. The company was renamed Baker Group to represent its varied capabilities.

BJ was brought up in the plumbing and mechanical business. His father started the company in 1963. In 1984, BJ managed day-to-day management from his parent, and now serves as Chairman and CEO of Baker Group. He has directed the company through expansion and transformation, expanding the business by recruiting the best professionals available.
