I typically don't write reviews, but I felt this one was worth noting. We selected AZ through the Costco program. They did an excellent job in installing a brand new heating and cooling system in our house. They showed up punctually at 8:30 am and from there it was non-stop. They were very clean....they protected our furniture with plastic and vacuumed at the end of the installation. They were very thorough and explained how the system operated. They were very kind, courteous and professional. I would recommend them to anyone.

I'd been renting an older home for a couple of years and finally bought the place last summer. There was no AC and the duct work was asbestos, and cracked. We had no fan at all only for the heater. The heating system was over 50 years old. It was time for a new system so we could tolerate the summer and also not worry about asbestos in the winter. A salesman in Costco told me it's a great company and I was lured in by the 10% Costco card. I left them my information and got a call back the same day.

The next day, Yasmin, a super smart and friendly rep, came to my place. She inspected everything, including climbing up in the attic. She came up with the same conclusion as my house inspector. I needed a new system. The AC was an add on (that we'd planned on) as we figured we should add it on now to improve the home's value. We had the large starting price, applied some seasonal discounts and other things. In the end, it was higher than I wanted to spend but I also felt confident in the product and the service. Yasmin was fantastic in easing our concerns and didn't push at all. That was a Friday I think.

Saturday we had an independent Abatement person out to remove the asbestos-suggested by AZ. That was a lot less expensive that I predicted.

Monday, several trucks of men showed up right around 8am. They were professional and clean and friendly. Different teams worked on different jobs and it was extremely well orchestrated. They took a lunch break and got right back to it. Remarkably, by 4:15 they were done! The main person showed us how to use the shiny new thermostat-which they relocated. He also had me plug something into the modem so we can access it remotely. They ran electrical wires, added the AC unit and even gave me a new outside outlet I didn't have before which was a nice bonus.

We haven't used the AC yet except to try it but the heat kicks in at night and it's very quiet and works much better with the new duct work.

I got follow up calls to make sure I was happy with the system. They sent out an inspector to check it over before the town does. Today I received a package from them to call the town inspector. All my permit applications and forms were included and filled out, I just have to make the call.

Oh, and last week we got our large Costco gift card-took about 2-3 weeks.

This was a wonderful experience all around. Yes I could have gotten this cheaper but with the warrantees, good product, the ties to Costco, and the lightning speed and professionalism, I would rather pay a little more for peace of mind.

Just completed the inspection process as well. System passed with no problems. The inspector from the city was a little bit annoying, but overall the system passed with no problems. Hey city inspector please bring your own ladder next time!! How do you do your job without one! Unbelievable!

We have an old 120 year old house, which use to be a one room school house, and we had an old electric forced air heater had not been used in fifteen years that only had three ducts, so we needed a whole new system. I actually got seven bids from top rated contractors with the help of Yelp and got bids from a ridiculous $20,500 to a low of two at $8,900 and $9,000. The rest fell within the $10,500 to $15,000 range. Our choice was actually the $10,500 bid, and not because the price so much, but because we felt very confident with the sales rep and the over 130 five star reviews on Yelp.

Because we don't use all the rooms and we didn't want to heat them, I was curious about the ductless heating systems I saw displayed at the booth in our Oxnard Costco. We signed up and two very nice young guys, Jonathan and D Sean came out to give us the sales pitch. As it turned out, the ductless system wouldn't have looked good or been practical for our classic California Victorian house. They ended up giving me a price on the conventional forced air system at around $15,500.

I have to say that we were actually very open to having the system installed through Costco because we know that Costco stands behind any work or products sold through them, which you might not find with another contractor. There are always the chances that with unexpected issues another contractor may raise the prices, etc. Jonathan and D Sean were pointed about the flat price with no hidden costs and we know with Costco that was a fact.

Weeks later, I told them that we would have chosen AZ, but their price was a lot more than the $10,500 bid we liked. They came back after talking with their manager and brought the price down to $13,000. With the 10% Costco cash card, 2% cash back on Executive Membership, and 2% credit back on the Costco Credit card, the total for the whole job was about $11,180, only $680 more than the other contractor. We decided to go with AZ, and, it turned out to be an excellent choice, and more than well worth it! This also included a high quality filter and thermostat being offered through Costco as a bonus.

Jonathan and D Sean were in constant contact with me and came back out several times. Because we had such a difficult installation they brought out one of their engineers or installation supervisors (Chuck) who crawled under the house and went over all the possible applications for the system. I was impressed by his planning and I asked if he could be here to start the job with the crew on the first day. As it turned out, he stayed here until 6:30 PM the first day of the installation. It took one and a half days for the whole install.

The first day not only was Chuck here, but also Jonathan. Jonathan actually came both days to check on the crew and to ask me if I had any concerns. At one point there were four to six workers here and they all seemed very through, with no one appearing to be in a big rush, which was a big worry for us as workers in a rush tend to be sloppy in their work. Before anything was started, they always asked me if it, or any changes, were ok with me. They laid down runners and covered most everything with plastic sheets. The electrician even took some time and ran the wire for our pellet stove thermostat under the house and into the wall when I jokingly asked if he could do it. We had it running under the carpet before that.

I have to say that I was impressed with the crew, especially because they ended up having two excellent crew leaders here, Mariano and Ivan. AZ has numerous crews and we were concerned that they would send out other workers the next day, so I called the office and asked that at least Mariano and Ivan were sent back, which they did.

As it turned out, the return could not be placed in the wall where we had originally planned so it was installed in the floor where the old furnace had been. It required a custom floor grill and two wall grills that they installed at a later dated because they had to be ordered. Both the office and Jonathan and D Sean stayed in contact with me to see if everything was working, and to update me on the arrival of the grills. We noticed that the kitchen area was getting too warm before the living room, and when they brought out the grills, they brought out an air balancing device and adjusted some of the dampers under the house. Again, when the two workers came out they were very courteous, put on shoe socks, and took their time cutting and refitting the openings for the grill, and adjusting the air flow.

So for us, the bottom line is that we made the right choice going with AZ and Costco. I am very picky and try to do my homework before we decide on contractors, which is obvious with eight bids, and this turned out far better than we had ever expected. I would not hesitate to recommend AZ, not only by what professionalism I saw in their employees, but also knowing that if it is done through Costco, Costco will stand behind their work

David F was my service tech today for my AC & heater maintenance! He was EXCELLENT!!! He did areas of maintenance that none of the other guys had done in previous visits. He treated my house like a castle- putting on surgical booties to not track in mud since it was a rainy day, wiping down his ladder before bringing it inside, even wearing gloves as to not leave fingerprints on the attic door! David even cleaned all the nasty fingerprints off the attic door left from the last service tech.
David is extremely thorough, explains everything in detail, and to top it all off has a great sense of humor! I just wished AZ would have all their service techs be more like him! Maybe AZ ... you could have David train your other service techs!!

Here is a letter I wrote to the Better Business Bureau after hiring AZ Air Conditioning and Heating in Van Nuys California:

Better Business Bureau

AZ installed air conditioning unit wrong and then charged me for every time they came out to try and fix it.

AZ installed mini split ductless system wrong. They came out 5 times to service it before realizing they screwed up. They finally fixed the original install but charged me for 5 service calls at 80$ or 400$ plus they screwed up the drywall by digging a big hole to fix their screw up.

Service was rediculous. The secretary said I was a problem customer.
They came out several times to service unit. They finally figured out that
they installed the drain wrong yet still charged me for 5 service calls to fix
their screw up. The drain was dumping water into my house and not outside as
designed.

I would like AZ to refund me $400.00 for the service charges they charged for
problems that they caused but charged me.
I would also like $100.00 for the dry wall and paint that they screwed up.
AZ owes me a minimum of $500.00. If it goes to small claims court it will be
$5000.00 for not only overcharging me but for lost wages.

When I contacted them a year after we discovered their total incompetence, they
told us the statute of limitations had run out. What a bunch of losers!!!
This company is your worst nightmare. What a bunch of A-Holes!!!

These idiots have an ice cubes chance in hell of ever being employed or being recommended my me.

My system was installed October 2014 this is by far the worst company you could do business with. One technician came out in January of this year said he wrote down system was working fine. Called back in February because water was leaking into my walls, AZ sent 2 technicians out they said the drain pan was leaking,They would order the part in 3-4 days. Robin called three days later and scheduled an appointment for six days later. I asked them what was they going to do about the water, mold and mildew in my walls, said someone would call me back. Monique called and said she was sending out a more experienced technician Ruben came today, did not check the system said i had water in my walls because the outside of my house was wet and i needed insulation, he did not open my walls so he did not know what is in my walls, he also said when i turn my heater on it creates moisture in the walls, Ruben then said the system on my roof has nothing to do with the water in my walls.I called COSTCO to report what was said and one by AZ air conditioning and heating, waiting on a response from them I also hired a home inspector.

Received incessant calls from 818-962-2848. The caller never left a message. So I call back and find out it's this company. Likely calling because of an inquiry at Costco. Why on earth don't these people leave a message so the call recipient knows who is calling and can call back? Very unprofessional.

Working with AZ air-conditioning has absolutely been the worst experience of my life. We bought a very expensive dual zone air-conditioning system that was installed by AZ. Prior, we had had two separate air conditioning and heating units. One for the upstairs, and one for the downstairs. AZ installed a new dual zone unit and connected the ducts between the upstairs and the downstairs in order to turn it into one air conditioning unit that can be zoned separately. Since the installation, every time we have called them for service we get attitude we are told we have to pay service fees even though we are under warranty. I've called back several times to get clarification on the fees and happen to get somebody different on the phone only to find out we don't have to pay the fees we were told we had to pay - it seems there's no order to what they say on the phone you can speak to two different people and get two different pieces of information. Every time they come out they want to charge $150 to replace the filter. Sometimes the filters are not due to be replaced. The worst part is now we are selling our home and our ducts did not pass the home inspection. In the locations where the upper and lower ducts were connected the ducting has come apart and they are not wrapped properly. We immediately called AZ and asked them to come take a look, they said they could not and would not come take a look because they ""did not ever touch the ducting in our home"". It is appalling to me that they would state such a lie. Whenever you install an air conditioning unit you touch the ducts in order to connect to it. When you install a dual zone unit in replacement of two separate units you absolutely are touching ducts in order to connect the upper and lower ones together. Here we sit in escrow paying for the ductwork to be repaired while AZ has completely ignored our phone calls, our emails, a direct reach out from our realtor and a complaint through Costco. Never, never, never, never, never, would I wish this experience on anybody nor would I ever recommend AZ air conditioning.
