I launched Astar Heating & A/C, Inc. in 1976, employing a local BOCES graduate as my initial team member. I was fortunate to have him with me for over 20 years and to hire many of his BOCES friends, including one who is now our Installation Manager and another who serves as our Service Manager. Now, 35 years later, we continue to thrive. It’s important to note that Astar is distinct due to our exceptional staff. Our technicians are reliable and extensively trained, with a strong commitment to their work. Too often, inadequately trained technicians focus on the first 'symptom' they encounter, missing the overall issue. This can result in additional complications. I went with big conglomerate because I was tired of dealing with scheister owner/operator plumbers that charge premium prices with no overhead similar to buying an upstate cocktail and being 60+ miles from Manhattan. Anyway, I'm not just any Podunk but self educated jack of all trades but I know when it's time to call in professional. I got this shop because they're a big outfit so they care about the little man, right? Wrong? They sent an obvious rookie to clean my hydronic gas heating system and he did an obvious half ads job and my system ain't been right since. Had to call aforementioned scheister plumbers to fix said hydronic system and low and behold, these experienced professionals couldn't figure out issues. I call astar and they have plausible deniability, they say we'll check out problem but $200 just to get them at the door. Highway robbery! I would've answered the door in a towel if I have to pay that kind of money! Long story short, use GOOGLE, find out what the problem is, most likely you may be ab6to troubleshoot yourself or at least know what needs to get fixed before yo get bent over.

Recently called this plumber for a blocked sewer line for my elderly, widowed mother. While the plumber was very fast in coming out and was upfront that it would cost $310 just for the visit plus a wide range for the service, in the end we paid over $600 for an hour's work. It wasn't the plumber's fault that he could not fix the block, but if we had more time and were not desperate to have someone come out- we would have called for other quotes and would not have. hired this company. They are way too expensive.

Called Astar to fix a faulty switch on our gas fireplace weeks ago. The technician showed up and confirmed what we already told them, that the switch was faulty. This company originally installed the gas fireplace in 2003. They have records of what type of system was installed. The technician said he has to see if he can order a part for this particular fireplace. They charged us almost $300 for that visit; just to tell us what we already knew. Fast forward several weeks later and still didn't get a call regarding whether or not they could locate the part or fix the fireplace switch. When I called to inquire and also complain. The receptionist said very smugly...""well, we let the customer know before we go out for a service that we charge a home visit fee. If you'd like, I can play the message back to you."" POOR customer service and QUESTIONABLE billing practices/SERVICES. I wouldn't trust them to work on my house and will be looking for a new company.

I hired aster to replace my central air conditioner. Ever since I hired them I have problems. I have rattling in the air conditioner vents, and every tech that comes to my home doesn't know how to fix it. They come up with all kinds of excuses. They are very disrespectiful. They come into your home and do what ever they want. From the beginning when they first put in the air conditioner the techs thought I was a grocery store and wanted me to keep bottled water here for him. Then he wanted me to move my car out of the garage because he didn't want to work in the sun. I told another tech not to go into a room and he kept on trying to get in. They broke my vent in the bathroom. The first tech that came to fix the rattling kicked a tv, and put grease on my clothes. Jeff showed up after that with his ""best tech Ron"" and told us that the screws were not tight. Jeff got annoyed that he paid for the tv and the clothes. I had two more tech here and the first one did nothing, the second Harry came in with a attitude problem touching things he had no business touching, talking to me like I was stupid. When he left he slammed my front door which is glass. I called Jeff and let him know and he doesn't care. He said so he didn't break the glass, so what. I know why the employees have an attitude problem. They learned from Jeff how to be disrespectiful. I still have the rattling sound. I spent a lot of money and it seems they don't want to fix the problem. Call someone else.

I wanted my dishwasher installed. Just a dishwasher installed. the woman started trying to sell me an annual contract, gave me this long schpiel about a service contract and was really doing the hard sell. I said I just want my dishwasher installed how much is that? She says it $245 or somewhere around there just to show up and then the install. I said how much is the install. She says ""well we don't know what your house is like, we can't tell you how much it is."" There was a dishwasher there. the dishwasher was removed. The fittings were all there. No plumbing involved at all except hooking up the dishwasher. She said if I get the service contract (still pushing!) it would be $145 to show up and then the additional amount of the install. RIP OFF COMPANY WHO IS JUST TRYING TO SELL SERVICE CONTRACTS. I found a plumber who did it for $200. I can't stand these companies who try to take advantage of people. Will NEVER call them again.

NOT ONLY IS THIS ORGANIZATION ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE WITHIN THEIR INDUSTRY, THEY HAVE PROVEN UNRELIABLE BEYOND MEASURE. I make mention to consumers in my own line of work that it doesn't matter how much money you spend, you're due superior service and reliable products simply because that's honoring our commitment to you, not so according to ASTAR. The money you spend, trust you invest and efforts to maintain their equipment inline with their recommendations HOLD NO VALUE.

Now $17,000 later, countless cold nights, more service calls requiring my attendance and additional fees for a myriad of ""simple fixes"", a re-install and we STILL HAVE NO HEAT. Well that's not entirely true, we generally have heat for a few minutes here and there before the unit turns off altogether AGAIN.

After a full system replacement of the original ""top of the line, name brand"" furnace, by Astar, in the fall they were advised that the system shut down during one brief cold spell. And in full disclosure, I did acknowledge with warm weather approaching the fix wasn't urgent. That said, my most recent calls have resulted in absolutely NO follow up. Granted my last schedule was challenging to work within as I'm on a 6 day work week. That said, one would think their services had 7 day coverage. Still though, NO FOLLOW-UP.

On a positive note, their office staff, manning the phones are always kind and understanding. Their techs clean and tidy.

Ed Engle and his next in line Jeff as well as additional staff willing to gouge you for every penny and leave you and your loved ones frigid, with no recourse through cold NY winters, should be ashamed of themselves. Their business deserves to be SHUT DOWN and DOORS SHUTTERED, full stop. Check in for an update to include images, shortly.

They promote an overpriced plan for plumbers who came, stomped in the mud around the yard, and charged almost $250 to do nothing at all. The HVAC rep. never returned calls and no one answered my questions. They led me to believe there was a rebate for the system, then nothing. Disappointing at best. I only give 2 stars because the system installers did a great job and it's working well so far, plus most of the staff are very courteous and respectful (except for the rep who put his boots on the furniture).

Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Technicians always respectful in my home; putting clean booties over their shoes upon entering my house as to make sure they do not track dirt everywhere. Sidney and Jeff are amazing!! We call Astar for every plumbing, heating and cooling need.

Astar made an appointment time for air conditioning maintenance. No one showed up nor did I receive a phone call. After waiting the afternoon, we called and complained on the answering machine. No one responded nor did any one call us back with an apology. Really poor business practice.
