Update!! Two years later, thermal coupling still working without a problem! Not one water heater problem since Kei came out!

I suppose it was my fault for not asking for a quote before scheduling an appointment.
After the plumber (Peter) arrived, I explained the issue and I was quoted $260 for parts and labor. I thought there would be a more comprehensive evaluation on how the heater was functioning overall, but there wasn't. I hesitantly agreed since I had already waited 30 minutes past our scheduled appointment time for him to arrive and I wasn't in the mood to haggle.

It probably took 30 minutes (maybe less) for the repair which basically involved replacing two hoses at the top of the heater. In hindsight, it's something I could have easily done myself but I guess I wanted the expertise of someone to look at it more thoroughly....which never really happened.

I think if the minimum labor charge was applied $150 plus $30 parts (I looked up the cost at Home Depot) = $180 total....that would have been a fair price.

At any rate, I'll just learn from the experience next time and ask more questions.

Called at least 5 places in Alameda and only one responded and the earliest was Friday to come out. Call Keith last and he picked up right away. Texted over pics of the water heater and confirmed and came over at 3 p.m. Ended up having my gas shut off tripped from the outside, but Keith took a look at everything and recommended a new tank since it's 17 years old. He reset the pilot and everything was back to normal. Planning to give him a call in a few weeks when I'm ready to swap out tanks. Pleasure to work with and very responsive. Wish all places were like this.

Called ASAP Plumbing on Friday because water heater needed to be replaced. He asked a few details such as capacity and location and said he could come in next day at 10am. Come next day at 10am, dude rings on my doorbell and says he's here for water heater. Plus for punctuality. I let him into garage, show him the water heater. He looks at it, says, ""ok."" Then gets to work. I left him outside in the garage to work while I sat inside to play video games. He said it would take about 3 hours. About 3 hours later, he tells me he's done. I pay him the agreed amount, sign a paper, he shows me how to work the water heater, and off he goes.

For the agreed price, I got a new water heater, installation, and hauling away of the old water heater.

Water heater works and he didn't leave a mess.

Highly Recommend ASAP Water Heater & Plumbing. They just replaced my Tankless water heater, price was very comparable, but service, install, professional and clean job site i would give a 10 if Yelp offered that many stars. A great find!!!!!

This is the 2nd time Keith has come out to help us!!! We have a tankless water heater. Keith is fantastic - he knows these complex heaters backwards and forwards, and fixes the problem - efficient and totally trustworthy! A great find!!!!

He came back 6months later because I was hearing a buzzing - turns out it's the circulating pump... but Keith recommended to wait because it's working... and didn't charge me for the eval!!!!

And I just called him (6 months later) and he was able to solve the issue over the phone - He walked me through opening a cap and draining some water that had accumulated and problem solved!!! Heater working again!! So lucky to have Keith to help us!!!!

I gave 5 star for the job well done! Keith is professional. When he came to our place, he look at the water and checked all. He gave me a option to replace the release valve for $160 including parts and labor. After explaining to me more what might happen and the age of our water heater, its just make sense to replace it. We set up a schedule for today and he came, replaced it and did a very good job. I recommend him and his company.

After reading all the 5 star reviews I thought they would be the best company to replace my dead water heater. I called and left a message and sent an email and got no response! I went with another company was very happy but they lost out on a client!

Keith from ASAP is a great knowledgeable guy with super communications. He came out to my house at Livermore and did reasonable analysis of the problems. He tried out the thermocouple and it did not work. He then explained that the valve may be at fault so he replaced with a new one. And it worked! For 2 hours and faults he charged only $250 and I thought it was a great value for the problem solved.
You won't make a mistake to call ASAP to come out to help! Reliable, accountable, and friendly, no doubt.
