AC Klem is our building plumber and I used them for a renovation of our 100 year old plumbing in our apartment. They are very experienced, super reliable and very neat. As with any renovation when you open up walls there are unexpected issues and AC Klem tackled each problem in a very timely way so that we stayed on schedule for our project. Everything everyone said in their reviews is 100% true because all of the same things happened to us. This company needs to be SHUT DOWN. They take your credit card information and charge whatever they like without ever reviewing it with you or asking approval. they make appointments and don't show up and don't even have the courtesy to call you to tell you they are not coming. And when you do finally speak to someone (Marlene in particular) they are rude, unhelpful and just awful people not only to deal with but to have to interact with as a fellow human being. We had a video of the problem which we BEGGED them to look at to ensure we weren't wasting anyone's time and to ensure that it was in their scope of work. They refused to watch the 30 second video and sure enough when they finally came (because they didn't show up the first day) they said they didn't do those types of repairs and just up and left. And of course this was done with a very rude attitude. A stove repair should not turn into a week long saga of calling, following up, and missed appointments especially when you're 7 1/2 months pregnant like I am. They are awful human beings and this is not how people should be treated and this is not how you run a business. SHUT THEM DOWN!

DO NOT HIRE.

It's funny - I actually didn't intent to read reviews or write one for this ""business,"" but I am now feeling inclined to do so as my encounters with them have just gone too far. I originally went to Google them for their phone #, and Yelp happened to be one of the top hits and I saw AC Klem's 1-star rating. I wasn't surprised. I decided to read what others had to say about this ""wonderful business"" and found that they had very similar interactions as mine.

I had work done in my apartment in Dec. 2016. When I called to book the appointment, they asked for a credit card # to hold the appointment. Seemed fairly normal...as some other business follow the same policy. However, I did not expect them to just automatically charge my card for the work, without me even reviewing the invoice. I received an invoice in the mail on January 24, 2017, which also said, ""your card will be charged in 3 days."" The very next day after receiving that ""invoice"" in the mail, my card was charged. I have never dealt with a service providing company who automatically charges you for work. I had no opportunity to review the costs and the work before making a payment. I called AC Klem to discuss and dispute an $800 charge for ""parts,"" which was just a flushometer (should be $175), but the receptionist, Marie, said I needed to speak w/ the manager, who was conveniently on vacation. She said she'd leave a message for him and that he'd call me back when he returned the following week.

Did I receive a call that week? No. So I called again and was given the same script from Marie - he was not available - I will leave a message and he will call back. I requested his email address or direct # to leave him a message to get the conversation started...but she said she could not provide me that information.

Days later...still nothing. I tried again the following week and told Marie he never called me. She said, ""oh, he never called you back?? I will check in with him again."" She at least tried to sound slightly concerned this time, but I knew my calls requesting an itemization of the parts were not going to be returned. I asked for the manager's name and again requested to reach out to him directly, but she wouldn't budge. I don't understand - there's absolutely no customer service - how is there absolutely no one I could speak to about my account? Why am I only speaking to the woman taking messages?

I let a month pass, tried again...and nothing.

A couple months ago, we used the shower for the first time (it's no longer our primary residence) and it was not working properly. The last time it ran was when the plumber came to fix it and test it out. I called complaining about the work but again, couldn't get through to the manager.

Today, I found out that our tub was causing a flood in the apartment below us. It prompted me to call the ridiculous business again and I'm just spent. The manager was not available. Marie claims to have never spoken to me before, that she has no messages in her record book. She asked me for my invoice #, which I did not have at the moment as I called concerning this unexpected incident and said, ""don't you have a database?"" She looked up my name and claimed that I had no account. She put me on hold for a while and finally said, ""you provided the tub fixtures and we have no warranty on parts we don't provide."" I said, ""right, but don't you have some liability on the work?!"" She said, ""they weren't our parts, so no."" I then said, ""but it has caused a flood in the apartment below us."" She then said, ""well, I can schedule someone to come out and check it out, but we charge a 2 hour minimum."" IS SHE F'ING KIDDING ME?! I said, ""ABSOLUTELY NO WAY WILL I EVER DEAL WITH YOU GUYS AGAIN.""
She said, ""ok, well I'll leave a message for the manager and have him call you back.""

I am a new home owner and needed a new toilet. I am very new to this process and I needed a lot of help scheduling, that being said I was hoping to rely on this plumbing company to help my though this process. While Vinny could not have been more helpful, Marie the receptionist was shockingly rude. She told me I was being too difficult and yelled at me that she needed to get off the phone. I really need a working toilet so I went ahead with scheduling but she soured the experience for me. As a reflection of the company she worked for, she was graceless and unprofessional.

I recommend using a different plumber. I certainly will.

what a stupid company. their commercial truck double parks on the street and i called the company twice asking them to move thier truck so i can get my car out. it has been 40 mins and no one comes to move their truck

I manage an on-site coop on the upper west side and just called to try to get an estimate for a big capital project. The receptionist was curt from the onset. I told her what I was looking for. After being put on hold, she told me someone would be here on Monday. I asked her for a time and she basically told me ""I don't know sometime between 10am and 2pm"" I then asked her for a better window of time since I had to arrange both my and my resident manager's schedule to make sure we were available"". She then told me ""Uggh, I don't know I'll have to see"" in a completely annoyed way. I asked her if she could please get back to me when she has one, to which she said ""I wont be getting back to you but someone else will"" In a completely rude way. I told her not to bother and hung up. I've been a property manager for about 15 years and can tell you my skin isn't thin at all. This person was one of the rudest people I've spoken to in some time. I'll be sure to tell my fellow property managers to steer clear of this place.

These people are con artists. They charged $280 for no work at all. $140 an hour. Work was supposed to get done, but when they arrived turns out the building needed to shut down the whole line so we would need to reschedule. Instead of promising to consider that when estimating cost for labor they basically said screw you we're gonna charge you anway. DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE! They don't care about their customers and will rip you off!!!!!!!!
