I contacted Arctic bear for an estimate on a new furnace, water heater and oil tank. A guy came out and told me that he'd have the estimate for me by the next week. That was three months ago! I called Arctic Bear three weeks after and was told they'd check on it. They never called me back.
we had our work done by Scott Smith and Son and I would recommend them to anyone! I would NEVER call Arctic Bear for anything!!! Follow up on what you say you're going to do!!!
Sue C.On 3/2/23 Zander Daley came to inspect/repair my furnace because of its inability to maintain set temperature. He wasted no time in advising me the CO level was more than double what's acceptable and I needed to replace the furnace immediately...it could NOT be repaired. And he turned off the gas to it WITHOUT TELLING ME. He had me sign what I believed to be a simple verification that he had inspected the furnace, offering no verbal explanation, as any reputable business would. I later found it was red on the reverse side and he had then attached it to the furnace, a Notice of Unsafe Equipment Condition. It DID NOT state the furnace was off. It's UNCONSCIONABLE that he left me without heat. He did arrange to have Jeff Wickman, a ""comfort advisor,"" come out within 2 hours to discuss my options...for purchasing a new furnace. Sounded fine until Jeff arrived and advised me my gas/heat was off and the furnace ""red tagged,"" meaning NO ONE could legally turn the gas back on until the furnace was replaced. I was expected to GO WITHOUT HEAT until then. But of course they could manage to do the job expeditiously. He outright refused to turn the gas back on, erroneously stating it was against NYS law to do so. AND he actually expected me to purchase a new heating/AC system from them. I told him to leave, and turned the gas back on myself.
I called Action Plumbing & Heating who immediately sent their incredible tech, Gary. Soon to be followed by the extraordinary owner, Kevin. They both proved to be extremely experienced, undoubtedly honest, and totally alleviated my fears. They determined there was NO CO problem, showing me meter readings with an explanation of how CO levels fluctuate when a furnace fires up and then reaches the set temperature. The only thing they needed to replace was the fan limit switch...which in all likelihood went bad because I had neglected to replace the filter (the new one happened to be leaning against the furnace).
Why didn't Arctic Bear start first with the most likely cause of my issue? These should have been the first things they checked without terrorizing me with their diagnosis of a likely catastrophic event.
From my perspective this was a classic, manipulative practice used to scam people. Perhaps I appeared to be an easy target because I'm a 72-year old single woman?
A perfect example of gendered ageism discrimination.
Let's hope their other employees don't follow suit.
Jessica D.Our water softener went bust on us, and we reached out to several companies. Only 2 contacted us back, Arctic Bear being one. We were very impressed with the company, from start to finish. Evan came out for the initial consultation. He did several tests on our water and made his recommendations, explaining everything along the way. The prices seemed better compared to the other company(who quoted lower but with less of what we actually needed). We didn't go with all of his recommendations, and he didn't try to hard sell us, which I REALLY appreciated. Scheduling was quick and easy. A 25% deposit was required, which I find fair.
And as our luck would have it, the night before the installation, we got a leak in a different section of our plumbing. I called Arctic Bear the morning of installation, and was scheduled for someone to come in the afternoon(separate from the installation).
Well, Alex comes to do the installation and says he just got a call from the office, and he can fix our leak too! Let me tell you, I was so pleased. I expected someone who was specialized for just water softener system installation. But Alex installed our new system, removed our old system, and fixed our leak(which was in an awkward place and required replacing piping and valves). He even asked if there was anything else we needed done while he was there!
I will NOT hesitate to use or recommend Arctic Bear in the future.
The sent a tech to review my plumbing issues and charged me $140 that was to be applied to getting the work done. We agreed to have them do the work and they applied my $140. On the day the work was to be done they sent 2 different techs. My wife asked if they knew what had to be done and the head person said "" I haven't got a clue"" He wasn't kidding and then proceeded to ask me to explain what was to be done for $850. I lost all confidence in their ability to do a good job and felt that they were so ill prepared that I couldn't trust their original estimate. It was not my job to tell them what had to be done and how. We sent them away and should get a refund of our down payment, We did not. STAY AWAY!
I usually go out of my way to write raving reviews for local businesses. Sadly, this is a rare occasion for me. Since I live out of state I had to give my credit card information up front. Before I gave Joanne the card number, I asked what the charges would be and was given a price for what needed to be done. I asked that the technician call me directly with his findings, which he did and I ended up speaking with both him and Joanne at the office. I didn't ask for any additional work to be completed, only what we originally discussed at the time I gave Joanne my credit card information. Neither of them mentioned additional fees that were later charged to my credit card. In fact, the technician was just going to leave without servicing the AC units as previously agreed upon so I confirmed with both parties that the fee originally quoted to me included servicing the unit and they both agreed so I asked for it to be done. I was never told of any additional fees and days later my credit card was over charged. I spoke with Joanne about the overcharges and she was immediately defensive. She said she was going to talk to the service technician and she was very short with me, the customer. I suggested that they need to be more upfront about what the charges consisted of to future customers. My advise, get your quote in writing BEFORE you give them your credit card.
UPDATE: Joanne did check with the technician who doesn't recall the conversation so they will be reimbursing me for the additional fees. I am thankful that she followed through and made an attempt to make this right for the customer.
Patti G.Read some reviews online and decided to call to have them service my boiler. The scheduler was able to get me in the following day. They do call to confirm the appointment. I ended up not using them because they do charge a service charge to come out to your home of $105. Just an honest review for others who may be considering this company, who may not be in an emergency situation.
Tami W.These guys are great! Fixed our boiler 1st time! These are the 3rd people we had at our house and they fixed it!
I wanted to have a split system heat pump installed in my house and had 4 different companies give me estimates including Arctic Bear. In my limited research on the heating specifications of the various heat pumps I felt that the only company representative that was knowledgeable on the subject was Evan from Arctic Bear. Most others were familiar with the cooling aspect but seemed clueless with the heating aspect. Be aware of a major company in Endicott that advertises in paper, radio and TV (have to bug them to provide quote, quote was generic with no specifics, and never responded to questions I had).
The 2 Arctic Bear representatives that installed my system were knowledgeable, and professional. I would highly recommend this company.
Aaron W.Called Arctic Bear after I discovered more problems while I was working on the kitchen sink and realized I was in over my head. They sent Alex out and he worked fast to replace some fittings and not just stop the leaks but leave the plumbing in better shape than it was before. Pricing was transparent, as agreed, no surprises.
Greg S.Arctic Bear recently replaced a forced-air furnace system for one of my Clients. The unit was installed with internal air-scrubbers and UV lights to eradicate microbes.
Indoor air quality was an issue in the home, warranting a mold remediation in the basement. After a successful basement remediation, I again tested the upstairs air quality. With complete surprise, there were absolutely zero mold spores in my sample. Normally, there are a few spores, even in a clean environment. I attribute the zero reading to Arctic Bear's effective air-cleaning system.
If indoor air quality is a concern, I highly recommend contacting Arctic Bear and inquire what they can do to help maintain your home mold-free.
Contact me if you have any questions.
