I scheduled to have someone come out to check on our furnace and got a two hour window the next day. An hour into that window, I got a call saying the tech was tied up with another job and could I reschedule? Sure. I rescheduled for two days later. Half an hour into that window, they called because the tech was tied up with another job and could I reschedule for next week. No thanks. The person I spoke with was nice enough and apologetic, but I'd think after one cancellation, they'd make me a priority if they want my business.

Just had Applewood at our house for the first time -- ironically recommended by another plumbing firm that couldn't get here for two days. Very impressive on many counts: 1) Got an email with the picture of the plumber who was going to come to the house before he came; 2) Charlie Knutson, the plumber (who looked just like his picture on the email) was professional, straightforward, diagnosed the problem with our outside sewer line quickly, and clearly explained the options and process. Assuming all goes well with the excavation and repair, this will not be the last time I call Applewood.

Beware! Applewood Plumbing is all about customer service, rapid response and promises. Unfortunately, my two experiences show their dark side - ridiculously high prices and pushy up selling. I had a leaky sink, plumber arrived, looked under the sink and identified 2 leaks, therefore 2 separate $137 charges. I also had to listen to a pushy sales talk about joining their ""Frequent User"" club. One of the leaks was from the basket in the sink and the plumber told me it needed to be replaced at a cost of $350! I declined and bought a new basket at Home Depot for $30 which I replaced myself. The other leak was from the seal around the disposal which he said he fixed by tightening for $137. The disposal continued to leak and I asked them to come back. This time, the plumber told me I would have to pay the $137 again even though they did not fix it before. I protested and he ""granted me a waiver"" - so much for guarantee in their work. I also got the sales pitch for the club again. This time, he looked at the disposal and we both could see the nut was on crooked and had not been tightened properly before. He tightened it and then told me I needed a new disposal as this one was ""not powerful enough"". Applewood's price was $750! I declined and must say every time I see an Applewood advertisement I cringe.

Sadly this company is a complete scam. I just don't understand how they seem so big and professional while doing business like this. Last December I had them out because of a backup, the morning that we were heading out of town for three weeks. I let the plumber know that we had two clean outs for the line as well as a shower drain, but he said that the only option was to take off the toilet to snake the line. Removing the toilet costs literally hundreds of dollars and putting it back on costs literally hundreds more. Obviously I had him leave the toilet off for us to replace.

While the diagnosis was correct, that we needed to replace our old clay sewer line, the fact that he blatantly lied about the toilet is unacceptable, to say the least. We held off on this project until summer, despite being told that we couldn't, by Applewood.

When the backup finally happened again we knew it was time to do the work. Guess what? The other company snaked the line via the clean out! There was no need to take off the toilet, other than to bill as much as possible for doing unnecessary work. The new company even snaked through the shower drain for good measure. At no point was it necessary to remove the toilet.

Ultimately, this company cannot be trusted. I was looked straight in the face and told that snaking the toilet was the only option. That was either gross incompetence, or a lie. I'll let you decide which.

No doubt their techs are well trained but price quoted was 4 times what job should have cost.

Just call someone else.

I am extremely insulted with these guys.
I called about a clogged drain in our basement and asked if they had an estimate to what it would cost. They wouldn't give me an answer so I made an appointment. After they canceled the next day we got bumped to the following day. When the plumber came over he looked at the sink and immediately said that it would cost $340! First off that is obscene for a clog, second why could they not give me an estimate over the phone if they have a standard cost for unclogging a drain. I had to pay $30 for the service call for him being here 5min and telling me how much it would cost. If i could give 0 stars i would.
Stay away from Applewood or you will get ripped off and extremely disappointed!!

I would give zero if possible. They came out to look at a broken A/C and immediately said it needed replaced, then tried to sell me on their, ""membership"" along with a $12,000.00 tab to replace my A/C. Their prices are laughable. Had the work done by another reputable company for under $4,000.00. I will NEVER call or recommend ""CRAP-plewood"" plumbing to anyone.

HVAC technician did a good job, and it only took him 20 min to finish the job, with very minimal parts (all good things) but...it was 367 dollars. Literally had him replace a small piece of my venting system. Was in somewhat of a pinch when I had the work done so i authorized it (my fault) but it was very expensive, won't be using them again for any work. I was thinking maybe 150 dollars max but it was over twice that. Called around after to get some rough estimates from local technicians and no one was over 180. Seriously wonder how they're still in business with all the bad reviews.

I used Applewood for my heating/AC and plumbing issues for several years and am now horrified at how badly I've been ripped off.

To their credit, they do send technicians who appear to be trained and skilled. They are professional and I believe that they did do a good job. They're able to show up quickly when other companies say it'll take a day or two. This can be of particular importance if you have an emergency that cannot wait until the next day.

However, as many other Yelpers have noted, their prices are way, way, way too high. I had suspected for some time that I was being overcharged, and I became convinced of this when they recently quoted me $1,800 to put in a new kitchen faucet. I replaced my faucet in 2007 for a couple hundred dollars, including parts and labor, so I know that this quote is astonishingly ridiculous. They also quoted me $800 to replace a toilet flange and I was able to get the same work done by another company for under $300.

They seem to prey on people who are in a pinch and thus have failed to research and shop around.

I am a real estate agent and have used them multiple times for Furnace cleaning and certification. Every single time they want the burner to be replaced, i had two different repair people come out after them and on different properties tell me they were fine. These guys bait you with a low price and then they sell you all sorts of stuff. I also met one of their contractors for the service, and he admitted they were on commission so the more stuff they found the better.
