Apex Home Solutions
Company Overview
Our offerings include appliance services, electrical installations, carpentry, concrete work, plumbing, and handyman solutions, plus free estimates.
Our team consists of two seasoned professionals, both boasting 25 years in handyman services, eager to bring your home ideas to life.
My father ran an appliance business named Ace Appliance in the 1980s, which is where I began my journey in the appliance field.
Appliances have evolved significantly since then; I later pursued handyman work and obtained my plumber's license as a journeyman, along with my HVAC certification.
Afterward, I delved into carpentry, concrete, deck building, patio construction, and all things concerning residential homes.

Michelle M.Just about everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. Doug said he was familiar with pexs tubing yet he proceeded to install the valves upside down and then declared that the water wasn't flowing correctly. He then proceeded to cut 5 holes in my walls and ceiling. I believed he was doing the work correctly and paid $750 only to learn after his second visit he was the one making all the mistakes; he wanted to return for a 3rd visit. I am now engaged in disputing the charge with the credit card company. I attempted to contact him about this but he failed to return my calls. AVOID THIS HANDYMAN SERVICE AT ALL COSTS. His work is going to cost me more money to fix his errors and the damage he caused than his fraudulent charges (I did not authorize Doug to run my credit card for his second visit, yet he did so anyway because he had written down my credit card number, expiration date, and CVC code). I FEEL SCAMMED.
Absolutely the worst. Avoid these clowns at all costs. They seriously don't know what they're doing.
We had two old AC units built into the walls. We wanted them pulled out and replaced with windows. We ordered pre-framed custom stained glass windows (that were not cheap) to go into the spaces. We found Apex Home Solutions and they quoted $600. Ok so far. We asked Doug what kind of frame to order since there were different ones depending on the type of installation. Doug chose the block style because he said it would be held in place entirely by construction adhesive and no screws. Ok, I guess you know best. We got the windows and they were beautiful and perfect. Doug and a younger guy got the AC units out. I commend them for that. It's the installation of the windows that was and still is a nightmare. During installation Doug drilled two huge, ugly screws through each frame without asking me first. I was dumbstruck. Can't take them out now, so just carry on. I should have stopped him, but I didn't. Then when trying to finish the framing, not only did he use drywall pieces instead of wood, he didn't really bother to measure them properly and left big gaps. He filled in the gaps with drywall mud that shrunk when it dried and left huge cracks. Since he destroyed some of the original trim around the openings he brought in some new trim, but it wasn't the same style or size as the other trim. He just went ahead and put the two together. Obviously that looks terrible and doesn't match, either by size or style. When told this, his attitude was that it was no bid deal, but ok, if you insist I'll change it. Then he didn't cut the corners correctly (""I don't have my miter saw with me."" Ok, then don't do it incorrectly!) and there was a big gap. He just filled it in with caulk, which of course looked horrible. Also, the trim was secured using huge wood screws instead of the little finishing nails that you're supposed to use. At least one of the pieces of drywall he used as the frame was bent and broken. ""Ah, that's fine,"" he tells me. He said that about the cracked plaster he left too, and anything else that was a problem. At one point a pretty big piece of old plaster broke off. The younger guy said he had never seen it before. You've never seen lath and plaster before? Uh oh. That's a bad sign. Anyway, in the end they tried to patch the hole in the plaster with drywall mud. The next morning that had shrunk cracked. It has to be redone now by someone who knows what they're doing. There's spray foam insulation coming out of everywhere and ugly piled up caulk everywhere. Some of the trim isn't flush. Absolutely nothing about the job was done correctly. Nothing. Anyone could have done a better. And to top it off, he charged me a total of $875 instead of the original $600. Basically I got scammed. Because now I have to hire someone who actually knows what they're doing to completely tear out everything Doug did and do it correctly. I contacted Doug to ask him to return some of the money, but he would not. He wanted to come back and try to fix it. No way. It's obvious you don't know what you're doing and there's no way I'm letting you in my house again. By the way, they seemed to have no respect for our stuff. Along with not caring where they put or tracked their debris, they put dirty, dusty power tools on our furniture and at one point put a piece of trim with big nails sticking through it on our bed with the nails pointing down. Unreal. I'm glad they took those AC units out of the walls and I was willing to pay for that, but the window installation was a nightmare and they should return that part of the payment, but they won't. They obviously had no idea what they were doing, didn't measure properly, didn't install anything properly, and just plain didn't care. They messed up the frames of our windows with those ugly screws (that can't be fixed) and I'm out hundreds because of their utter incompetence. What an absolute disaster.
Dan P.I sent a request for large pendant light replacement in a hard to reach location within a 2 story room. Doug quickly responded to my request and came all the way from Gaithersburg, MD to Ashburn, VA to inspect and estimate the work. Unfortunately, he didn't have the equipment needed at the time to perform this work, but I would definitely consider using him again in the future.
Andy K.It's my pleasure to post this review - the first one on Yelp for Apex Home Solutions. I posted a request for quotes on Yelp when the installer for our 4 year old State Power Vent 50 gallon water heater refused to respond to 3 phone calls after an initial call with the problem. Apex Home Solutions was one of the first to respond. After some preliminary discussion including pictures that I texted to them, I hired Apex to do the job. Doug and Mike, his apprentice, a journeyman plumber, showed up on time. Doug first worked his way through diagnosing the problem on his own, and later with the Tech Support people at State. We needed to involve them, because the parts were still under warranty, and they needed to approve the request for parts. The problem was difficult to solve - when the components initially pointed to by fault codes were replaced, the problem remained unsolved. Doug stuck with it, and the heater is now working perfectly with a new heater control valve, thermostat, igniter, and blower motor assembly. Recommended.
