American River Plumbing replaced my 50 gal. gas hot water heater and did a great job. The work was five-star but I could have subtracted a star because when I asked for an itemized invoice... what the heater cost and what labor cost... they told me that they don't keep those records and they price all work as a 'package.'

I wanted the itemizations for tax reasons... on request of my CPA. American River Plumbing knows what they paid the distributor for the heater and parts and they know their own labor rate. It would not be hard to at least make an estimate for me.

I'm not happy with that business model, but people read these reviews to learn how good the work is... and indeed the work done was five-star... from start to finish. A company's internal business practices are really not part of the equation for the vast majority of people. Thus I gave all five stars although I sure would have appreciated an itemized invoice.

Mike was like a legendary superhero. He stopped the unfixable (tightly wedged in under a shelf) toilet from highly distressing trickling water (occurring long after flushing) -- in just a few minutes. At every step, he informed me of how much something would cost: which was always lower than expected. In the remaining few minutes, Mike gave me a free consultation on the best way to repair the toilet in the other bathroom. On the way to walking out the door, Mike fixed the almost unusable bathroom sink ! ! ! (And showed me how to fix it by myself !) It was always full of water, unable to drain out. No extra charge. Because of Mike and American River Plumbing, I now have a beautiful, ""new,"" fully repaired sink and toilet, together with plans for how to fix the other toilet. I am floating in a sea of happiness ! Mike, you should have all the stars in the sky, more than five.

Outstanding service - Easy to make appointments - on-time arrival - very knowledgeable - they replace a part in my shower that was difficult to reach - they were patient and got the job done. Their prices are VERY reasonable. I will definitely call them again next time we have a plumbing issue

Mike came out and replaced a bathroom faucet. He called ahead and arrived on time. He was friendly and professional. As a female, I felt completely safe with him in my home. The price was $150, which is awesome! Excellent work at a low cost. Thank you American River Plumbing.

American River Plumbing was recommended to us when our first plumber couldn't resolve our issue. It was a bit of an emergency and George came out with his two sons as soon as possible. They worked into the dark to help us. I have been burned in the worst way a large plumbing company and I felt like this long time family run business was honest and trustworthy. They had modern and impressive equipment to camera our lines and cleaned out a large amount of roots. They were clean, professional and friendly. I could see they really wanted to help us and they worked hard and came back when we had a flare up. Highly recommend American River Plumbing

I cannot speak more highly of this company. They are a family-owned business, are extremely professional, experienced, and very straight forward. They were the 4th plumbing company to come out to resolve a leaking sink in my bathroom (the 1st plumber incorrectly installed it) & they did so quickly & at a good price. I almost didn't want to write the review as they'll be on speed dial for all my subsequent plumbing needs (& don't want to have to wait ).

My Fair Oaks plumber of 20 years does not do Tankless Water Heater installs. I asked him ""Can you recommend a small business, family owned company, to install a tankless?"" He said, ""I refer all the work I cannot do, or chose not to do, to American River Plumbing in Citrus Heights.""

This was my first time working with American River Plumbing and it was a very pleasant experience. The process started out with getting general information and a quote from George, the owner of the company (20+ years in business for himself, 40 years total as a plumber). His sons, John and Mike came out to do the install. They were courteous and answered all my questions, and I ask a lot of them. They never made me feel like I was taking up their valuable time with my inquiries. Everything went smoothly with the Rinnai Tankless Gas Outside unit install. I've had a couple questions afterwards, since the install, and John has been prompt in getting back to me. Personal, friendly, responsive service is something that is becoming rarer and rarer to find these days. I highly recommend George, John, and Mike to people looking for honest, responsive, experienced plumbing professionals.

After having countertops installed we needed a plumber to re-hookup our sink, dishwasher and garbage disposal. American River Plumbing said this was something they could do for us. The technician arrived and began to do the work. He said he was the son of the owner. He was very professional and courteous. After completing the work and preparing for departure, he brought to our attention that he was unable to get power to the dishwasher or the garbage disposal. We said that everything had been working perfectly prior to the countertops being installed and were puzzled why they wouldn't work. He suggested that maybe it is a fuse in the breaker box or other electrical issue. He then suggested we call an electrician to fix the problem. We explained again that everything was working perfectly, and only needed to be re-hooked up and were so puzzled why both the garbage disposal and dishwasher wouldn't work. We asked him if he could recommend an electrician and we could call. We thanked him and paid him. Again, he was courteous and professional and thanked us.

Shortly thereafter, I received a text message from American River Plumbing for an electrician recommendation. The electrician came out the next day for just a few minutes and got everything working. The electrician said that he can't charge us for any parts or labor as there weren't any parts or labor to perform and that they would only charge for the service call. Then he proceeded to ask if the plumber was to be billed or us. At that point we were puzzled by the question and said ""us"" and that the plumber only provided the electrician recommendation. We then asked what the problem was as to why there was no power to the garbage disposal and dishwasher and they said it didn't get hooked up/connected and that caused it not to work. At this point it clearly seemed that the call to the electrician was unnecessary and was probably an issue the plumber should have performed or double checked prior to leaving.

We later followed up with the owner of American River Plumbing to explain what happened and asked if he might consider covering the cost of the electrician's service call. He said no, only if we had purchased the garbage disposal from him. We were so confused and explained that we had the plumber come out to simply re-hook up the new sink and existing garbage disposal and dishwasher. The owner just kept saying that if they supplied the garbage disposal then they would cover the electrician's service call. In this situation, this argument made no sense and we could clearly hear he wanted to get rid of us. We are reasonable people, and had the owner simply seemed at all interested in our concern, he could have said ""let me check with my technician"" or even ""let me follow up with the electrician and see what happened and I'll get back to you"". Really, anything that would show us that we matter as customers and that it mattered that we were dissatisfied and would look into that.

Whether the plumber's work involved a mistake or an oversight, this would not even matter at this point. I was the sheer lack of customer service. Unfortunately, for us, we ran into an issue and the lack of customer service was revealed. We were disappointed by this.

John and his brother were just out here to replace a broken garbage disposal and a malfunctioning kitchen sink faucet. They arrived promptly, with a new Insinkerator, and installed both the disposal and faucet in an efficient manner. Before leaving, they made certain everything was working properly, verified there were no leaks, explained all the parts/pieces we might need later, and cleaned up the area. All for an very reasonable price. I can highly recommend this company, without any hesitation.
