Our Story
Tony and Brian established the company from a small workspace in Tony's home garage back in May of 1995. Initially, we focused on building new houses and supported ourselves by installing miles of waste and water pipes in the Forrest Heights section of the West Hills of Portland. Since then, we have broadened our expertise to include various plumbing projects, but we enjoy residential remodels such as upgrading water mains, pipe replacement and additions. We take pride in light commercial work like tenant improvements and service work.
From the start, we have rarely advertised and have expanded by one employee a year primarily through word of mouth. We began with Tony and Brian as the original duo and as Mike honed his plumbing expertise in the industry, he joined us. Currently, we have 15 employees. We are a young plumbing business that aims to establish a reputation in the local community.
Both Brian and Tony are second-generation journeymen plumbers. We come from a long line of plumbers. For nearly three decades, we have served the community alongside our younger brother Mike. We want your business, so call us! We're open all weekend long with no additional fees. That's a moment with Jay Cutler - Mr. Olympia.

Our need was relatively simple -- install an under-the-sink water filter system, which we had already purchased. We would use the faucet hole already in the sink countertop for the dispensing part of the system, so no drilling needed. American Plumbing was responsive to the request for estimate (reasonable price) and scheduled within a couple of days. Other plumbers we called were outrageously priced for the work, or didn't call us back at all.
When the scheduled day came, there was bad weather with snow / ice, and the scheduled plumber wasn't able to make it. The guys kept in touch with me all morning re: status of schedule, and Mike ended up coming out himself to do the work. He did a great job, within the estimated time at the estimated cost.
I value the responsiveness, high quality work by Journeyman plumbers, and their being just nice folks! This is a family-owned business, passed down through generations. You can tell they love of the work and desire to be of service.

While I can't tell you anything about the quality of the work this company I can tell you about the drivers. This morning I was riding my motorcycle from Battle Ground WA to Portland at 5:10 am, one of there drivers must have been upset at me because he had a terrible case of road rage. I was behind a car with no room to spare and one to the right of me leaving me boxed in. This driver was 1 foot off of my rear fender. When I finally had a chance to move over this guy flips me the bird. I'm not sure what I did but what ever it is there is no reason to tail gate a motorcycle because that is just unsafe. His plate number is 440 GAQ. Watch out for this guy.

We bought our fist house just a week ago, and had to call for plumbing services when our kitchen sink faucet sprung a leak in a huge way! We called around for same day services, and Bob and his team were the only ones that could guarantee getting us in. They came by that afternoon after leaving a voicemail at 7:30 AM. They brought a replacement faucet with them, and even got in some of our other plumbing concerns.
Their customer service was great, they responded quickly and also were very compassionate with us given we are new to home ownership and plumbing issues.

Terrrible - AVOID AVOID!
New toilet installed incorrectly in Oct 2014. Slow leak brings huge mold bloom 2 years later on kitchen ceiling. Charged $180 to come out and diagnose bad wax ring installation, then refused to participate in over $1500 mold mitigation, demolition, new drywall, etc. Owner very smug and keeps to ""1 year guarantee"" policy - hiding behind contractor board rules. Read other reviews for similar experiences. They do not stand by their work. They must have some very inexperienced plumbers working for them. Avoid unless you are practiced at small claims court - hire at your own risk!

We had a pipe burst in our wall at two am. Not exactly the way you want to start your Thursday morning. My husband shut off the water and I got on the phone to American Plumbing right away. I could not believe they were able to send someone out that same afternoon. We live in a more rural area, making that all the more miraculous. Wade came out and got us all fixed up. He ended up having to cut a hole in our wall to access the pipe. He also had to crawl up under our home. All of this was done in about 2 hours. Quick, clean, and courteous. I was very impressed. I do not have a lot of experience with plumbers, but all I know is when you are panicking you want someone to get there fast and get you fixed up. It is an awful helpless situation, and this company was there for us.

Finding a really good, reputable plumber is not easy. I found American Plumbing on Angie's List. American Plumbing is family owned. They are a small company with a core value of customer satisfaction. I just purchased a house built in 1951; one owner and a great deal of deferred maintenance and homeowner iffy repairs. I knew that I needed to have the plumbing worked on before moving in. I called American Plumbing and spoke with Tony. He came out to the house and did a thorough inspection of all the plumbing. He explained what needed repairing and what just normal wear-and-tear is. The biggest issue was the water service in the house. Very old pipes, very little water pressure. Vincent, Ryan and ""Nick"" were on the job two days and replaced all the water service pipes; installed a new toilet, removed an illegal shower in the basement, new kitchen faucet, etc. They did a fantastic job! Very professional work. I highly recommend American Plumbing for any of your plumbing jobs!

Awful!!!
Had very little waster pressure in shower. The plumber took apart the faucet, and I turned the main water on and there was full pressure, as water shot across the bathroom. He said it was probably the cartridge, but he would have to go get one as they didn't stock that model in their shop that is located about 6 blocks away. He was gone for 1 1/2 hours.
When he returned, he put the new cartridge in, and there was no water.
He told me he was STUMPED and couldn't figure it out, and that I would need to make another appointment to get the pipes replaced. Big $$$ in that.
He packed up his tools and left me with NO water in the shower.
WHAT A WASTE OF $300!!!
WHAT A SCAM!!!
I called D&F Plumbing, and they came out the next morning and replaced the faucet, and all was well.
I talked with the owner of American Plumbing a few days later, and he couldn't care less.
AVOID AMERICAN PLUMBING!!!

These guys are the best in the most 'old school' kind of way. I own a Duplex, in addition to my own home and my son's home. I've used them on multiple occasions, mostly in semi-emergency mode. They always
1-returned my call if they didn't immediately answer the phone
2-set up appointments quickly
3-say what they'll do, then do what they say; no add-ons or sales pitches
4-send highly competent Journeyman plumbers only
5-charge a fair and reasonable price
They're my Plumbers for life!

We needed a hot water heater to replace a broken one. American Plumbing Services installed the wrong kind of water heater. It looked like a sloppy job (see pictures) and the workers were very rude. When we asked questions, the owner of the company threatened us. We paid the company in full the very next day, just to put the whole thing behind us. But almost immediately we started to notice an odor, which started in the water heater area and progressively got worse throughout the house. It became so bad we finally called NW Natural Gas to come out.
Sure enough NW Natural Gas determined that there was ""major spillage"" of exhaust into our home as a result of the work this company did. NW Natural Gas proceeded to turn off our gas service to the water heater and Red Tagged it (see pictures) leaving us without hot water.
We had an inspection performed on the water heater by the City Of Portland Bureau Of Development. The inspection results confirmed that American Plumbing Services did not perform the work to code.
We still needed a working hot water heater. So we chose to have the repair work done by a different plumbing company - one not associated with American Plumbing Services - for the commercially reasonable price (multiple bids were acquired) of $1,850. We sent Anthony Johnston, the owner of American Plumbing Services, a certified letter explaining these facts, enclosed a copy of the chosen plumbing company's receipt for $1,850, and we asked for the $1,850 to be reimbursed.
The owner of American Plumbing Services responded with a short phone message saying he ""disagreed"" with the letter and would not be sending us the reimbursement check as we requested. When we called him back, he reiterated he wouldn't send us the check and declared: ""You don't have that many options available.""
American Plumbing Services chose to dodge responsibility for their mess. We're very unhappy with them.

Mason was right on time, got my drain fixed fast and was super nice. Great service!
