Our Story
The founders, Tony and Brian started the company from a temporary office in Tony's garage back in May of 1995. At first, we focused on building new houses and made our income by laying down numerous water and waste lines in the Forrest Heights neighborhood of Portland. Over the years, we have broadened our expertise to include various plumbing projects, but we prefer residential remodels such as installing new water lines, re-piping homes and additions. We take pride in small commercial projects like improving rental spaces and service work.
Right from the beginning, we have not relied on advertising and have increased our team by one employee a year primarily through referrals. Our journey started with the two of us, Tony and Brian and as Mike, another brother gained skills in the trade, he joined us. As of now, we have 15 dedicated team members. We are a vibrant plumbing company that is eager to create a reputation in the local community.
Brian and Tony are second-generation licensed plumbers. We come from a long line of plumbers. Since 1995, we have been in business alongside Mike, our younger sibling. We are eager for your work, so call us! Our doors are open all weekend long with no additional fees. Here I am with Jay Cutler - Mr. Olympia.

We had a pipe burst in our wall at two am. Not exactly the way you want to start your Thursday morning. My husband shut off the water and I got on the phone to American Plumbing right away. I could not believe they were able to send someone out that same afternoon. We live in a more rural area, making that all the more miraculous. Wade came out and got us all fixed up. He ended up having to cut a hole in our wall to access the pipe. He also had to crawl up under our home. All of this was done in about 2 hours. Quick, clean, and courteous. I was very impressed. I do not have a lot of experience with plumbers, but all I know is when you are panicking you want someone to get there fast and get you fixed up. It is an awful helpless situation, and this company was there for us.

Finding a really good, reputable plumber is not easy. I found American Plumbing on Angie's List. American Plumbing is family owned. They are a small company with a core value of customer satisfaction. I just purchased a house built in 1951; one owner and a great deal of deferred maintenance and homeowner iffy repairs. I knew that I needed to have the plumbing worked on before moving in. I called American Plumbing and spoke with Tony. He came out to the house and did a thorough inspection of all the plumbing. He explained what needed repairing and what just normal wear-and-tear is. The biggest issue was the water service in the house. Very old pipes, very little water pressure. Vincent, Ryan and ""Nick"" were on the job two days and replaced all the water service pipes; installed a new toilet, removed an illegal shower in the basement, new kitchen faucet, etc. They did a fantastic job! Very professional work. I highly recommend American Plumbing for any of your plumbing jobs!

Awful!!!
Had very little waster pressure in shower. The plumber took apart the faucet, and I turned the main water on and there was full pressure, as water shot across the bathroom. He said it was probably the cartridge, but he would have to go get one as they didn't stock that model in their shop that is located about 6 blocks away. He was gone for 1 1/2 hours.
When he returned, he put the new cartridge in, and there was no water.
He told me he was STUMPED and couldn't figure it out, and that I would need to make another appointment to get the pipes replaced. Big $$$ in that.
He packed up his tools and left me with NO water in the shower.
WHAT A WASTE OF $300!!!
WHAT A SCAM!!!
I called D&F Plumbing, and they came out the next morning and replaced the faucet, and all was well.
I talked with the owner of American Plumbing a few days later, and he couldn't care less.
AVOID AMERICAN PLUMBING!!!

These guys are the best in the most 'old school' kind of way. I own a Duplex, in addition to my own home and my son's home. I've used them on multiple occasions, mostly in semi-emergency mode. They always
1-returned my call if they didn't immediately answer the phone
2-set up appointments quickly
3-say what they'll do, then do what they say; no add-ons or sales pitches
4-send highly competent Journeyman plumbers only
5-charge a fair and reasonable price
They're my Plumbers for life!

We needed a hot water heater to replace a broken one. American Plumbing Services installed the wrong kind of water heater. It looked like a sloppy job (see pictures) and the workers were very rude. When we asked questions, the owner of the company threatened us. We paid the company in full the very next day, just to put the whole thing behind us. But almost immediately we started to notice an odor, which started in the water heater area and progressively got worse throughout the house. It became so bad we finally called NW Natural Gas to come out.
Sure enough NW Natural Gas determined that there was ""major spillage"" of exhaust into our home as a result of the work this company did. NW Natural Gas proceeded to turn off our gas service to the water heater and Red Tagged it (see pictures) leaving us without hot water.
We had an inspection performed on the water heater by the City Of Portland Bureau Of Development. The inspection results confirmed that American Plumbing Services did not perform the work to code.
We still needed a working hot water heater. So we chose to have the repair work done by a different plumbing company - one not associated with American Plumbing Services - for the commercially reasonable price (multiple bids were acquired) of $1,850. We sent Anthony Johnston, the owner of American Plumbing Services, a certified letter explaining these facts, enclosed a copy of the chosen plumbing company's receipt for $1,850, and we asked for the $1,850 to be reimbursed.
The owner of American Plumbing Services responded with a short phone message saying he ""disagreed"" with the letter and would not be sending us the reimbursement check as we requested. When we called him back, he reiterated he wouldn't send us the check and declared: ""You don't have that many options available.""
American Plumbing Services chose to dodge responsibility for their mess. We're very unhappy with them.

Mason was right on time, got my drain fixed fast and was super nice. Great service!

Plumbing problems ahh! Yuck I hate calling plumbers. :( NOT with these guys! Everyone I spoke with was very kind and I was very surprised by how great the guy was that worked on my problem. I hope I never have to call them again but If I do have any plumbing problems they will be my only call.

What a stand-up company. A little over a year ago they replaced my main water line to the house--in the dead of winter dealing with ice and frozen soil. The water was back on within 48 hours. More recently the irrigation system was leaking at the main water connection box, Mason came out to check the problem, discovered a cracked valve, he dug out the box and replaced the connection at not charge. I would highly recommend this company.

we've had many bad plumbing experiences, so i was expecting the same from this company.
i was so wrong. they are GREAT. they explained everything and let me know what i could do on my own, to save money. they worked fast and were friendly.
their work was thorough and their customer service is excellent.
will definitely be using them again and recommending to others.

Terrible experience with American Plumbing. The owner, Tony, bid our job and gave us a maximum price. The plumber who did our work (basement plumbing for a laundry), was slow and ended up having to redo much of his work along the way. At the end of the job there are still some major issues that have not been repaired (the hot and cold water for our washing machine were hooked up backwards). At the end of the job we were presented with a bill for 50% more than the maximum price Tony had quoted. Tony had no explanation for the increase in price, but threatened to send us to collections if we didn't pay. What a bum. Beware of American Plumbing, and don't trust a word from Tony.
