I had a major main waterline break and it was late on Sunday. Called ALD, and the owner came by as he was returning from Houston on another job. He spent over an hour finding and marking the break location so my plumber could fix it Monday morning.

We are starting the process of installing a whole house water filter. Our plumber came out to talk it over and said the first task is to find the water line from the meter to the house. It turns out those things can be hard to find. We knew where the meter was, but with a concrete slab foundation we didn't have any indicators for where it entered the house. The plumber and I each dug a couple of holes in the yard, then we gave up and he recommended I call American Leak Detection.

A few days later they sent out a plumber with some specialized tools and he spent a couple of hours before locating the spot by running a camera up the pipe from the meter. Well, hopefully he located it, because he put down flags but didn't actually dig it up. Apparently it's 2.5 feet underground and we have pretty tough ground here, so we left it for my primary plumber to dig up.

I know that you can dig at your meter to find the direction the water pipe is pointed and it will generally go in a straight line to the house...but I wouldn't have dug over two feet down to find the pipe. So while American Leak Detection cost a bit more than I would have preferred, it was within the price range they told me upfront, they got the job done, and they were professional about it.

If I needed to find an external leak I wouldn't hesitate to call them.
