After a dismal day of being notified by the meter reader from Tucson Water that my household was consuming 3 times as much water as the month before he suggested that I call a leak detection specialist because there was no obvious sign of a leak. I found highly rated American Leak Detection of Tucson on Yelp. The ratings turned out to be spot on.

That same morning I called what turned out to be a national customer service representative, who then forwarded my information to the local technician. I was called shortly thereafter and had an appointment lickety-split. The technician, Seth, notified me a half an hour before arriving at my doorstep early that afternoon.

He was like a leak detecting dynamo, zooming through the house, first negating all of the internal plumbing as a culprit. His knowledge of his trade impressed me as he moved outside and continued the process of narrowing down the location of the leak. All the while he answered all of my questions and put to ease my worries that I had made the wrong decision to spend money on this service.

I was amazed at the process of his listening to the leak, which unfortunately was located somewhere under my patio concrete slab. He went back and forth along the patio listening for the leak. Seth told me that he was trying to be absolutely sure where the pipe had burst. An hour later after using his sonic leak detection contraptions, Seth marked out the location of the underground piping using tape and bright spray paint. Finally, with a bright pink 'X' made out of tape, he marked the location of the leak. I was ecstatic that progress had been made in overcoming my dilemma.

Afterwards, he provided a run-down of the strange design of my water piping, which had been installed to accommodate a water softener years after the house was built. He wrote a report detailing what he had found, which was emailed to me the next day. Seth also provided me useful information, which turned out to be accurate, about what I could expect to pay for repairs by a plumbing company, and the process that they would use to do so. He also graciously wrote down, on the back of his business card, a small list of plumbers that he could recommend. What really stood out to me was the passion Seth exhibited for helping people in trying times and his emphatically telling me he has a passion for doing so AND his proud part in helping to save untold gallons of water through his trade. That is something that is awfully important in our desert climate.

All-in-all, the service was worth the price, if only for watching someone diligently ply their craft with gusto and grace.

The next day it really struck home how much it was worth the service when the plumber cut and jack-hammered the concrete, dug out the fill dirt covering the pipe, and we discovered that the leak was within 6-10 inches of where Seth had placed his tape 'X'. Boo-yaa!

Honestly. The service guy was very polite and appeared to be thorough...until the floor started getting jackhammered up. The ""x"" that marked the spot did not. And his estimation of less than a couple gallons an hour was indeed waaaaaay off. After he left and I continued to explore our yard I found several other leaks that weren't noted.

(I did take pictures.)

Had these guys out as a part of our home insurance claim inspection for a water leak under the kitchen sink. We didn't know if it was a drain line leak, or a supply line(s) leak.

American Leak Detection was the ONLY company that correctly diagnosed the problem. The initial professional guesstimates of all 6 other Tucson plumbing companies were wrong!

We highly, highly recommend these guys.

Prompt service. Roughly 350 dollars to do an assessment. Nice peace of mind to have their specialized equipment to assess if there was a potential for a leak. Two gentlemen came to the house, wearing masks, and were polite and on time. Would be a great service to have when purchasing a new property. Very thorough.

I noticed water stains in a corner area (and then the next day, water dripping from the ceiling) in a room off the garage. Seth was very professional and thorough. After a while, he finally found the source of the leak up in the ceiling. He checked for other sources of leaks in the house and yard while he was here. Upon my request, he recommended a couple of excellent plumbing companies. The plumbing company I called was great --they came right away and fixed the leak. Seth answered my questions and gave advice when I asked for it. He even texted to check up on the repair many hours after he left. I understand why this company has an excellent reputation in town. The price was discussed up front when I scheduled the appointment and there were no ""surprises"" on the final bill. Very professional company. The workers (I dealt primarily with Seth) that came were very pleasant and neat while they were here.

Great service! The company was at the house within one hour of our call.

We could hear water flowing, saw no sign of leaks, but the water meter (a modern ERT meter) was recording flow of 0.16 gallons per minute. Seth, a former US Marine, was totally professional in every way. During his 2 hour visit he confirmed the leak existed, mapped the underground and in-wall plumbing, and marked an ""X"" with pink flourescent tape inside the master bedroom. He predicted it was a pinhole leak located 12"" deep.

After our plumbing contractor (Racy's Plumbing) jackhammered through the foundation at the pink ""X"", he found the pinhole leak at 12"" deep, within one foot of the pink ""X"". The pipe location was spot on. The accuracy was pretty remarkable for something that was totally invisible from the surface. The survey cost $375 and was definitely worth it to prevent the possibility of structural damage and/or termites to the house. Their service was perfect.

The company's Tucson office is a family operation with brothers Seth and Tanner, and their father Mark. Use these pros and you'll also be supporting a three-generation family of US Marines. Semper Fi.

We were very impressed with American Leak detection Company as being sympathetic, prompt, and honest.
We were 5 days without water and during this time were waiting for 2 days for a scheduled appointment with another company to come out on Friday. When they did not show up and gave us deceitful information about their service, we called American. After hearing about our desperate situation, they gracefully agreed to come out on Saturday, which they normally do not do. They have instructed us to turn on the water an hour before the appointment and came out exactly on time After turning the water on and after an hour of digging we found the leak ourselves. When American came out and saw that we found the leak ourselves, the owner refused our offer of payment for his time and trouble.
We strongly recommend this company and join praises of other reviewers.

Well this was helpful. I had a 1000 gal spike over two billing periods per month.
The meter people said it could not be the five year old meter. So it must be us. I added food color to the tank to test for a flapper leak. Nada
I read the meter over night , nothing.
Shut off main for a week while traveling.
Again no water movement at the main.

So I called Mark, owner, and he walked me thru al the possibles. I may have solved it when I re adjusted the tank float level in
The only toilet.
We ll give it another billing period.

Over ten days I am at my old usage , 66 gal a day. 2 adults, 1 bathroom , no irrigation, fountains or softeners. 2000 gal 30 days.

If I need to , I can still call him back.

He saved me a service call, thanks...

Highly recommend this company. I have had them out twice to check for leaks. They are not only on time, they are early (when does that ever happen with a contractor), professional, fast, knowledgeable and thorough. If you think you might have a plumbing leak, they have all the tools to do the job!

Today, I called to cancel my appointment. I left a message, got a return call, saying it was the Rudest phone call they had ever gotten. I expressed to them that there prices were outrages. And I was cancelling my appointment with them. Than I get 3 more phone calls from them, I had to hang up on them.. Plus a Nasty message on my voice mail. I had to BLOCK them from calling me.
Why did they bother to STOOP so low to harass me...what they should or could done was say... Thank for calling and cancel the appointment. And let it go.. Yes, we have used them before and was very happy with them... But when I expressed the sky rocketing prices, I was shocked at there response.
