Luis G from American Leak Detection took ten minutes to find the plumbing leak, after two others tried and failed. He was professional, efficient and courteous. His customer service and people skills are excellent! I highly recommend the company to anyone who wants the job done efficiently the first time!

They rearranged their schedule to accommodate me. That was very nice of them. They are on the high side. $ 495.00 for the first 2 hours. They didn't even go in the water to check the structure of the pool. I told him where I believe the two leaks were. He verified one but didn't bother looking at the one at the hot tube. He said If the leak was there before , it's probably still bad. I received the report back from them within a day. Great service.

These bozos will keep you hanging for days with no communication only to be happy to charge you for a dive which they offered but indicated I would be on my own to do any repairs - what? So unless you plan on doing your own repairs, I would find another company. Their rates are extraordinarily high and customer communication is minimal at best.

After essentially no communication for a week - they start calling/emailing immediately after I posted this review. Other reviewers have noted that they were contacted by Am Leak Detection after posting poor reviews and the company asked them to change their reviews - that completely defeats the purpose of Yelp reviews. Joe - who repeatedly tried to contact me after this posting should spend his energy working on increasing his location's customer service instead of the hours of time invested in responding to poor Yelp reviews.

Don't waste your money as there are other much more competent companies around

First a few things need to be said about the need for this service and the industry In General

Pool owners' ""want and need""
* anyone with an older pool should have the underground plumbing tested- no debate
** If there is a leak (concrete deck or plaster cracking, chemical loss...) it's important to get a professional eye on the project. They can dive the pool and check difficult problem areas without draining the pool.
*** Pool owners should want to know about the health of their property, and be conservative about the expenses of ownership.
**** The process is interesting

Industry
* Manipulative. It's not you, the customer. It's profit motivation and efficiency for the business- not geared for the customer. They have set up the system for customers who don't understand their pools and they're thusly unwilling or incapable (both?) of the bravery and creativity it takes to be truly customer oriented.
** Knowledgeable pool owners will be frustrated. You have to pay for it eventually, so they've got you by the short hairs- FOR NOW
*** Eventually, someone will figure it out and turn the industry around. I would hope that a conscientious business would have already done it, but ""free market"" blah blah blah... (shrugging)

American Leak Detection
* outside of the above- they get a good rating for being responsive, professional, and competitively priced
** Their technician in Brentwood, Don, is one of the few reasons they get a positive review from me.
*** Brian, the office manager, is the other. I pressed him fairly hard. He was professional where others might have been otherwise. He was unable if not underpowered to do anything about my request to test a portion of my pool and make it a customized/ financially intelligent option. As a result, I paid twice as much as I ""needed"" to and the tech was involved for 3X longer than he needed to be.
But again... the industry is not set up for efficiency

Use ALDetection
In my opinion, They're the best service in the group

Good luck!

This company is not helpful, in fact they CAUSED a problem that had to be dealt with by an actual plumber. Jonathan, the tech who came to ""deal"" with the leak charged 200.00 for travel time, and another 400 to trace the leak to a faulty supply valve under a bath vanity (he spent less than an hour actually at the site). He removed the valve (of course, he wasn't prepared with something so basic as an angle supply valve, so he capped a very short 1/2"" copper stub with a very short ""shark bite"" cap that calls for a special tool for its removal). I looked online for ways to get such a thing off without the special tool, but none of them worked (and they should have). The cap was so close to the drywall that access to pull it out was impossible. Also I had to remove some drywall around the fitting which will have to be patched now. Also, the gasket on the fitting that must be intact to pull the thing off was broken (not by me), which made removal in the intended way impossible. I am now having to get a dremel tool (luckily available at tool library), buy a metal cutting blade (another trip to the store, more expense), and cut the damn thing off (very carefully so as not to damage the very short copper stub) just so I can put on a simple supply valve. And yes, we paid 600.00 for this wonderful experience. This company will gouge you, cost you dearly, add more work at more expense, and give you more headaches than you had before. STAY AWAY!!!

I am not one to ever write a review but don't waste your money. The technician showed up, spent 20 minutes here, said he was going to send a report which we have received and charged us $400 for nothing. We should have used a pool company. Also, I was told it was $295 to come to house and access the problem.

I really hope that you give the proper training to your techs so that there isn't so many apologies in the future.

Professional, quick and effective (Eastbay)

I had a 200,000 gallon water leak that resulted in an extremely high water bill. Though I am extremely familiar with my irrigation system and visually checked my property, I could not see any evidence of a huge leak.
When they arrived on site, they did double check that the leak was in the irrigation line and not the line to the house and even checked each valve to make sure there was no stuck valve or problem in the irrigation boxes. Within the hour they were able to mark the site of the leak using pressurized gas and water combination and marked the location for me. Scott and XXX were very polite and did not mind me asking many questions and following them around.

The report was sent the next day with photos and showing where they located the leak. I had the spot dig up just this weekend. Though the leak was visibly undetectable, it is located under driveway pavers approximately 2 feet deep. The spot they marked was within 4 foot square of the mark. As we dug to 1.5 feet deep turning on the irrigation main allowed the water to spray out and find the leak which was a huge help on an over 1/2 acre property.

I would recommend them to friends and use the in the future especially if you have an expensive/complicated area to dig up and don't want to use trial and error.

Responsive, competent, efficient and exceptional communication skills. Within an hour, Andy found the leak, presented the problem and options on how to and who could fix. I've no hesitation referring Andy at American Leak: he's 6-stars.

Following Andy's detection of leak location, I called three different plumbers to be tolda 4-5 day wait. UGH! I'd been without water already for 4 days. I called back American Leak who had my broken pipes repaired within a few hours, returning the next day to check it all out, after water turned back on. Exceptional service! By way of background: I'm a 68 year old female sole homeowner with a main city water easement on my hillside property. The City had dug up the street trying to find source of water running down street, leaving to search on the street above me. In the process water continued to slowly flow so I dug for 2 days at both house and irrigation locations. At about depth of 5 feet, I could bucket out water and mud but didn't see any pipe breakage. I gave up, called Am Leak which came after another job to see what was going on. Seeing my dug holes , and hearing my frustration, the response was immediate. No time wasted. I was within 18 inches of the break. I was shown, and the situation explained, my many questions respectfully answered. The damaged pipes replaced, packed with sand to help with pressure from expansion-contraction of soIl. The detailed bill with photos came promptly within 2 days. I'm a highly satisfied customer.

Great service. It took about two months for them to show up but worth the wait. My spa was was leaking and it is a in ground pool/spa they located the leak and gave us a quote for repair. The repair is really reasonable and I'm going to have them fix it.,they will rip out and replace the patio concrete do the repair for 2000.00 for what they are going to charge it is not worth for me to do it myself. I recommend this company if you have the time to wait they are super busy.
