This was a good company when we first used them, about 15 years ago. They were prompt, courteous and professional. They are completely the opposite of all of that now. We called them recently because our pool was losing water too quickly to be evaporation only. When they came out to test, the technician came in hot and I felt like I had to walk on eggshells around him. He was angry that we had our gardener there cutting a bush and that a gardener across the street was working. I get that this interferes with his listening for leaks, but he cut the testing short once he found one problem. He then told the main office that I requested that he only test the fill line. I don't know anything about this field and I certainly wanted a full test. More on that later.
The other reviews about Michelle (the person who answers the phone and does scheduling) are spot on. She really comes across as not liking her job or her customers. She is condescending and lets you know that she has no idea when anyone can come out for repairs because they are so busy with everyone else but you. She said she has no idea when repairs will be scheduled and will call the day before they intend to come out . We waited two months for scheduling and called every couple of weeks to check, to her obvious exasperation. Once, she blamed me for incomplete testing and said they would come out and do the test ""the way it should have been done the first time "" for $500. When I mentioned that I already paid $350, she said that ""some of that"" would be applied to the next test. I started having a gut feeling that this was going to get worse so I told them that I wasn't so sure that working with them was a good idea, then she offered to take the full $350 off another test.
I decided not to go with them and found Swim Care. So far, so good. They found two leaks and offered a fair estimate to fix them, with a defined start date this month.
Some photos of texts with them saying they ""have no idea when"" the can help and to just use someone else. Best advice they ever gave me. It's a shame that bad help can represent a business in this manner. I told my pool guys and they are going to stop recommending them and said they are hearing this for their other customers too.
Don't use American Leak Detection of South San Diego unless you want to deal with difficult people and wait a very long time for service!

Absolutely the most useless incompetent company I have dealt with in a long time. Took them almost 2 hours to find a leak that when we investigated and destroyed our bathroom floor was not there. When I called to have them come back out they told me that they had only a 30 day guarantee on the detection. I would not use this company to clean my toilets. Unbelievably rude and incompetent!

I had another ''leak detection'' company come out before American Leak Detection. Man, I wish I had called these folks first.
Unlike the other guys, Michelle in the office was super responsive and although they are very busy, was able to squeeze me in way earlier than she had initially told me. But the Alfredo showed up. He had boxes of tools, air tanks, dyes, and obviously years of experience. He was incredibly thorough and confidence inspiring, and by the time he was done identified the source of my problem, and showed me exactly what was going on with videos, pictures, and patient explanation.
Michelle's follow up was great and she recommended me to another amazingly professional vendor to help see me through.
I trust these people completely. If you suspect your pool is leaking, don't keep wasting precious water. Call these fine folks an know you're in good hands.

These guys came to my house on a rainy day to find the under ground leak . they could not find the leak and blame the rain for it. They told me to replace a valve and if I called them within 30 days it will com and test the pipes for free .When I call them back to come and retest they said they will charge me again even though it was their own fault that they came on a rainy day. I don't trust these guys. Be very careful about these guys. They lie. They are out there to rip you off

We had a leak in our skimmer of an Anthony pool that was probably 50 years old. We had another company come out and did a pressure test and was going to send someone out to give us an estimate to repair, but he never showed up. I called Michelle with American Leak Detection who sent out Alfredo who put a camera down the skimmer and found the leaks in the copper pipe that turned into plastic pipe further down. He was very knowledgeable and took his time to explain everything to my wife and I. Michelle sent us an estimate right away. Alfredo said we didn't have to drain the pool and don't trust anyone who says so and wants to do more than replace the skimmer. We did our due diligence and found their pricing to be reasonable and we insisted that Alfredo do the work. We even waited a month for him. He came out, drained to below the skimmer, and did the entire repair in one day. It looks great and came with a five year warranty. I highly recommend them to anyone with a pool leak.

Do not use them if part of an insurance claim. They don't care about protecting you or your home and investment, they care about protecting the insurance company. They actually bullied my realtor and I together over the phone and then actually asked us why we were bothering to even file an insurance claim. California has strict insurance laws and I don't think they follow them.

I hired American Leak Detection to check my pool for leaks as I am about to start a major pool remodel and wanted to make sure of the integrity of the pool plumbing and structure.
Tim, the technician, came out and did a fantastic job. He was very thorough and took the time to explain and answer any questions I had.
He pressure tested all the plumbing (everything is ok!) and found a couple of cracks/leaks in the pool and skimmer. I received a detailed report of his findings.
When the technician left, he forgot to refill the spa and I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to refill the spa. Typically, I just click the waterfall button on my controller and it just works. Apparently, it was stuck in some weird state.
I called the technician and he tried to talk me through how to remedy the situation. When I was still unable to, he came back and restored it.
Normally, I would take one star away for this, but the technician and the company took immediate action to remedy. In addition, Tim the technician is such a nice guy and he even labelled all the parts of my pool plumbing so that I could troubleshoot it myself next time.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this company. The cost is reasonable.

I'm very shocked seeing the questionable reviews here! I had such a great experience personally!
We purchased our house ""AS IS"" in November, and I'm a first time pool owner so I had no idea what I was doing!
It's s been 3 months and thousands spent of different pool companies coming out telling me different things about why my pool isn't working including the pump is broken ($10k fix), the skimmer needs to be replaced ($3k fix), there must be a crack in a drain under the pool and you're gonna need to break through concrete, etc etc.
Finally I got these guys out (Alfredo) and I'm so grateful I did! He stuck a camera down the drain and immediately found the issue- a pine cone and a bunch of leaves stuck inside the drain. They cleared it same day and my pool was working!! Yay!! So happy. I'm so grateful. Thank you thank you thank you!!

Kind of difficult to schedule the service, contacted them several times to get an appointment, hence 4 stars. Once scheduled, they were one time, very thorough and showed me where leak was located. The cost was reasonable. A few days later I received the report.

Extremely disappointed in the customer service I received. First of all, I asked the company to do a complete leak inspection of my pool. They claimed I have high evaporation due to wind. It has been raining, so I am unsure how they were able to test my pool. Secondly, they did not turn ""on"" my pool auto refill system (when they turned it off). I told them I would be out of town. Finally, I asked them to call me to give an update, and they did not. However, they were prompt to send me a $125 bill.
