American Home Shield is a Scam - Stay Away!
If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. I have been a Gold Member with American Home Shield (AHS) for months, faithfully paying my premiums, expecting at least basic service when needed. Big mistake.

A couple of months ago, my washer and dryer started acting up. I submitted a service request, paid the $125 service fee, and a technician came out. He claimed the issue was fixed--but it wasn't. The same problems persisted. I called again, and this time, they blamed it on a clogged vent. Fine--I cleaned the vents myself. And guess what? Now my washer and dryer are even worse than before--banging loudly, shaking violently, and practically dancing across my laundry room.

And AHS? They marked my service request as ""complete"" and left me with completely unusable appliances. I called customer service, and all they did was give me the runaround. No accountability, no real solutions--just an expensive membership fee, an additional service charge, and a laundry machine that sounds like it's possessed.

American Home Shield is a complete joke. They take your money, send incompetent contractors, and then abandon you when things go wrong. Save yourself the frustration, the wasted time, and the money--DO NOT use AHS.

AHS HAS LEFT ME IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION - DO NOT TRUST THEM!
I have been a paying customer since 2019, dealing with steadily increasing premiums and shamefully poor service since 2020. But this week, AHS has put my health, safety, and home at serious risk with their utter incompetence.
I live in Northwest Indiana, and it is freezing--low 30s during the day and below freezing at night. On Tuesday morning, my gas was shut off due to leaks in the couplings of my water heater (which AHS installed in 2020) and its controller, which is also leaking gas. My gas cannot be turned back on by law until a licensed contractor repairs and pressure-tests the pipes.
I immediately submitted a claim to AHS, expecting urgent help. Instead, I got an epic runaround. They dispatched a plumber who does not even perform this type of repair! The plumber admitted they have told AHS multiple times that they do not have the necessary pressure-testing equipment, yet AHS keeps sending them jobs they cannot do.
From Tuesday morning to now (Thursday afternoon), I have spent HOURS on hold, bouncing between AHS customer service and their so-called ""escalations department."" No one is helping me. They refuse to assign a proper contractor and have ignored my urgent pleas for an emergency appointment.
Meanwhile, I am sitting in 29-degree weather, desperately trying to keep my pipes from freezing with space heaters I cannot leave unattended. I have had to cancel all my work appointments, losing income as a 100% commission salesperson. I have already spent $279 on extra space heaters and insulation to prevent catastrophic damage to my home.
To make matters worse, I now know that AHS installed my furnace backward, making the filter inaccessible--a clear sign of their reckless, incompetent service.
This is not just bad customer service--this is negligence. AHS is risking people's homes and lives while collecting their ever-increasing premiums. STAY AWAY from this company! They will leave you stranded, cold, and desperate while they give you excuses.
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM AHS. They are a disgrace.

Terrible company! No customer service. They stole $100 from us. I paid my deductible, they sent out an air conditioning company that couldn't diagnose the problem and when I asked for them to send another company out that actually knew what they were doing, they said I needed to pay another $100 deductible. Fraud!!! We ended up calling out our own company and had the air conditioner fixed and I still don't have anything to show for my $100 deductible. Do not EVER go with this company. I am also going to making complaint with the Better Business Bureau, not that it seems it will make a difference.

We have an Air condition that is 30 years old and it was has been running great until last fall (2023). American Home Shield (AHS) repaired it by purchasing a Compressor ($300), but we had to pay for the freon R22 which is hard to fine, that cost us ($1600). When the AC went out again this year May 2024, AHS did not want to pay to have it replaced because the contractor who repaired it in 2023 said the Condenser Coils were damaged. AHS has pictures of the AC last year and this year and the Coils look the same. Lee company service our AC every year and they submitted pictures of our AC back in 2019 and the Coils look the same. Why did AHS replaced the compressor last year when the coils looked the same.

The only thing we do is turn the AC on, off and adjust the temp. We pay to have the unit service that is why it has last for over 30 years. Can someone please tell me how can Condenser Coils not be wear and tear for an AC over 30 years when life expectancy is 15 years. I should have listen to Dave Ramsey, warranty companies is a ripe off.

Another thing, AHS does not use well known Companies/Contractors.

CUSTOMERS, PLEASE BE AWARE. WHEN IT'S A HIGH DOLLAR ITEM, THEY WILL FIND A WAY NOT TO PAY ALTHOUGH YOU HAVE PAID PREMIUMS MONTHLY FOR YEARS..

Zero stars. This company sucks. Terrible customer service. They jerked us around already 3 times and we've only been in our new place for two months. I tried to speak with a supervisor to lodge a formal complaint and, of course, was put on hold for 10 minutes and then told that she was busy. They are the absolute worst.

We've had an American Home Shield - AHS - protection plan for at least 15 years, with only 1 claim. Our HVAC thermostat decided to quit in July 2023 during a couple weeks of very hot temperatures. We called the AHS phone number to submit a claim. They arranged for a HVAC technician to come and analyze the inoperative thermostat. Two days later he arrived and determined the thermostat needed to be replaced but had to get permission from AHS to order a new thermostat. Two days later the HVAC service company called to inform us that a replacement thermostat been approved by AHS and it had been ordered. AHS also informed us through email. Weeks went by and during those weeks we called both AHS and the HVAC service company to get an update receiving and installing the new thermostat, but they would either not return our calls, or provide us misinformation from several agents who could never get the situation straight. Two months later, after numerous attempts to contact AHS, we finally made contact with AHS, only to be informed that they determined nothing was wrong with the thermostat and cancelled the order for the new thermostat, without informing us. AHS reaped our money for 15 years and then dishonored their warranty service plan. A disgraceful company!

Worst company ever!! They jerked us so long for a fridge repair that we had to go buy another one. It took over 6 weeks to get a part replaced.

If you're thinking of signing up for an American Home Shield Warranty Plan - DON'T DO IT! If you already have a plan - CANCEL IT!

American Home Shield will take your money, but will use every stall tactic to delay your claim. I had a claim for a broken hot water tank that was leaking water into my house and it took them one week to approve my claim. I had to call them many, many times to get them to expedite my request, but they didn't seem to have any sense of urgency.

Before they approved the claim, I had to pay the deductible any other costs incurred for code adjustments. Even after I paid them, they still didn't respond in a timely manner.

And here's the kicker...when I called to cancel my home warranty plan, they charged me $65.99 for the cancellation!

They only get one star because Yelp won't let you choose ZERO. My 81 year old mother has had their Home warranty for years. Her a/c unit went out, 106-112 degree days. She just got out of the hospital and is extremely sick and weak and cannot afford to replace her unit. American Home Shield advertises 24 hour service. They have had the estimate from their chosen repair company for 14 days now. They will not approve the repairs and they will not let us speak to anyone who actually makes the decisions. Customer service is nearly nonexistent. The only people you can speak to are completely ignorant of the process and are glorified message takers for their ""Contract Relations"" dept. AHS falsely advertises services they refuse to provide. Taking advantage of a sick old woman- it is not only breech of contract, but fraud at best.

Read the Better Business Bureau reviews. They have tens of thousands of complaints. Save your money and find a reputable warranty company.

If yelp would allow, I would give AHS no stars. Run, don't walk away from this horrible company. I'm not one to leave reviews, good or bad, however the treatment we've received from AHS warrants a warning to would be victims. Starting with customer service, which is virtually worthless. Extremely long hold times for inaccurate or misleading information. Second, the uncovered costs for air conditioning repairs is outrageously high. Almost as if your paying for the full repair amount. AHS will not disclose the amount they pay towards your repair. In addition, be aware there is NO SENSE OF URGENCY to have your repair completed. Our A/C claim was submitted on 6/6/23, and after hours upon hours of time spent on telephone calls and follow up, the repair was finally completed on 7/21/23. We live in Arizona, where temps reached 120 during this time, which created a dangerous and unhealthy situation. Buyer beware, don't fall for their bs.
