Beware! A few years ago I called and made an appointment, clearly stating I wanted ONLY an estimate to replace the furnace and to add air conditioning to my home. The receptionist made the appointment and a few days later Jim arrived, on time. He explained what was required for my house, and then showed me pictures from his presentation book of other jobs they had done, stressing American Air Conditioning's expert installations and also showing ""sub-standard"" installation photos that Jim said were performed by other companies. When I asked how much my system would cost he flipped to another page in the book which showed a chart with a range of prices. He said it would fall somewhere on this chart. The lower left of the chart was in the $5,000 range and the upper right of the chart was in the $20,000 range. Pretty big range! I again asked how much is the estimate and he again said the cost is somewhere on this pricing chart. I then told him that I had made it clear to the receptionist that I was only collecting estimates at this time. His demeanor instantly changed and his face took on a look of general hurt/disgust, as if I was just wasting his time. This, of course, made me feel like a tool so I eventually caved and agreed to have the work done. The work was done, but they did have to come back and make a minor change that the city inspector found. I paid $16,900 but later found out a fairer price would have been around $8,000 to $10,000.
Summary, they use high pressure emotional techniques to get you to buy their products on the first visit, just like a shady used car salesman would do and charge far too much. Not to mention when the tech came back a year later and performed the free maintenance inspection, he ""noticed"" my gas meter valve was ""not compliant"" and that he could change it right then and there for about $500. I said no thanks, and later called the gas company who said my meter was fully compliant.

I chose this company to install my hvac because of the good reviews. They first send out a technician and then a different salesperson. I even dealt with the owners son Jimbo. He was a biggest salesperson of them all. He said he would do add this and that and made sure the system ran great. He gave me all the stories about his kids...... I have 2 small kids myself and he really milked all the stories about his kids to make the sell. It worked, because I gave him the business. They start off my telling me that I should get a system that fits the size of my home. I've heard this before and thought ok, we're going in the right direction. Too make the long story short, when the hvac system was all installed, I put in a maintenance call into them telling them that the house is NOT cooling enough. I come to find out, by their own technician, that my AC is only running at 60% capacity. Now, I've spent all this money and need to spend more to fix this problem. I called around this time and found out that I could have gotten my system for 70% of the price I paid. I paid about 12k on both the furnace and AC.

They sold me the product with several years of warranty, but I've come to find out that if you don't sign up for their yearly maintenance service, the warranty can be void.

I've made several complaints to them, but they weren't interested in keeping their customer happy. Instead, they said it would cost about $3500 to fix the problem.

That's was like adding salt to the wound.

After posting my review I received a phone call from the owner, Mr. James H. Smith. We shared a gentleman professional call in which I explained that back when this situation occurred I had my ""Certified"" package refused by his company. He was genuinely concerned and I forwarded it on to him. After reading the details of my original complaint directly to the company he made sure that my ""maintenance"" agreement was canceled and refunded the cost of my original 1-year maintenance fee. When companies grow to a certain size, disconnection from the original founder of the company obviously can occur. His direct action as the owner was certainly appreciated however I did write him a letter to express my standing concern for the way my initial experience involved my perfectly working AC unit to ""blow up"" less than 14 days after they ""serviced"" it as well as some of the sales tactics used. Maybe MOST important was my expression to him that for a company in 2012/13 to refuse to email ""appointment ""confirmations or to refuse to use email ...is well, not good. Perhaps they'll change this policy after this experience with me. Stand by.

I bought a service contract for 3 years. First two years were OK. Third year, they scheduled 11-1 so I left work and came home. They'd called my wife and said closer to 1. At 1:05 I called them and they said closer to 2 and that they'd told my wife that (she denied that). So I cancelled my service contract. Unreliable, especially for a company tat you have to prepay a year in advance

In my Opinion, this company uses misleading marketing practices.
I received an anonymous letter, with only a phone number. (When I called the number they turned out to be American Air Conditioning & Heating) The letter is titled SERVICE REMINDER. It then goes on to say that (paraphrased) ""My central Heating system's annual inspection HAS NOT BEEN PERFORMED by them"" - Urging me to call them and schedule the required service.

This vendor does not know me. There has never been any contact between us. They have never visited my property. They don't even know whether I have a central A/C system or not - let alone its maintenance status.

When any vendor uses misleading marketing practices, I tend not to trust it in other areas

From the moment I met Brian, I knew that I was in good hands. I have signed up for a service contract, and they have replaced my air ducts and installed a new furnace and air conditioner. The installers have all been very efficient, reliable, neat, and friendly. Brian is an excellent personal tech, reliable, honest, and funny. I can trust his recommendations. I recommend this company without any reservations.

If you want great customer service, I would ""not"" suggest using this company. They only treat you well if you have their service warranty plan. If you don't, forget about it. The technicians are great. The problem is the office and upper management.

I had an all-in-one roof-top a/c and heating unit installed by American Air Conditioning & Heating in 2005. In addition, I purchased the service warranty plan. I had concerns about the installation from the beginning. The installers added a trunk and punched a hole from one section of my existing roof with attic space, and into my den with no attic space.

My main concern was possible leaking, but was assured that they do this type of work all the time, and it would not leak. On the first heavy rain, there was leak from the newly installed vent into my den. After several phone calls to the office, installers came back out, and did a bunch of caulking and tarring, and the leak stopped.

The following year, the leak came back, so I had a roofer come out to assess the situation. He advised that the roof was in great shape, and to have the duct work resealed, and eventually replace the trunk. I had the duct resealed and the roof area re-tarred, and the leak stopped. A few more seasons passed and guess what, the leak is back.

I reached out to American Air Conditioning to see about having the trunk replaced. On the first call, I was transferred to a representative's voicemail, and received no return call. On my second call, I was transferred to Brenda. I explained my situation and Brenda advised that the service call would be $99, since the warranty had lapsed. I explained that the system was operating properly (so no service call was necessary), but there was a problem with the installation. She again advised, in a non-caring tone, that I would need to pay $99 for a service call.

A technician named Ed came out, and I explained the situation (again) to him, and he recommended replacing the trunk. He called his supervisor Brian and explained the situation to him as well. So, I asked Ed for an estimate to replace the trunk. Ed couldn't give me a price until I paid the $99.00. He came back with an astronomical price of $929.00 to replace about 2 1/2 feet of ducting. I wasn't happy with the price, since I only paid $6,000 for the entire system. I asked if they could do better, since it was a faulty installation from the start. Ed advised me to call the office. I called the office and spoke with Brenda again, and asked to speak with Brian who was, of course, gone for the day. This was only 5min after the Technician Ed spoke with him. Brenda said she would give him the message to call me back.

After 2 days there was no call back. I called the office once again and got Brooke, she was actually nice, apologetic, and promised to have someone call me back. She was actually the most pleasant office person I've dealt with so far.

The next day Brenda called me back. She told me she was given a price of $700.00 plus, I would have to purchase a 1 year service warranty package for $99.00. This still adds up to the first initial quote. I counter-offered with $600.00 and Brenda said she would check with the others and she would call me back. A week plus, still no call back.

I made a HUGE mistake when I chose American Air Conditioning & Heating to install a heater at my house. I made this decision based on the salesman's boasting about their great customer service. My experience with their customer service was horrible:
1. They scheduled an appointment to install the heater but did not show until the next day.
2. After they worked all day to removed my old heater they realized the new heater would not fit, so they had to order a different heater and I had to schedule another installation day.
3. When the heater was finally installed under my house, it did not pass inspection because they installed it directly on the ground instead of using a cement pallet. And would you believe the people at this company had the nerve to argue with the building inspector about the necessity of a pallet.
4. One cold rainy day soon after it was installed I turned on the heater, but it did not heat my house. This was because they placed the heater's venting pipe in such a way that allowed large amounts rain water to run directly into the heating unit. Duh!
5. Now for the last 5 months I have been trying to get this company to put some kind of screen on the opening of the vent pipe to prevent rodents from crawling into the heater. The serviceman said this needed to be done and he put in a service request, but after several phone calls nothing has been done. I have a feeling they haven't done anything because I did not renew my service contract with them.

Wrote a review a few weeks ago and it mysteriously disappeared. Coincidentally, I received a phone call from the office manager Brenda last week. Seems as if this company tracks the reviews from Yelp (hopefully they aren't deleting the ones they don't like). Anyhow, Brenda seemed surprised I never received my partial refund promised to me many times over a period of several months. She assured me she would personally bring the check by my house. Guess what? No Brenda and no check. Once again, American has failed to live up to their promises. Stay away from this company or you will regret it.
