Pam J.It was that time of year again, my annual AC service. George showed up right on time, put on his booties, was very courteous and spent over an hour here checking the system, cleaning it, swapping the filter and spent some time up on the roof where the condenser is located. The system is fairly new, less than 2 years old, and I wondered what he could possibly suggest this time as an 'upgrade'. Sure enough, he suggested improving our insulation (which was only put in a little over a year ago)! If not for them always suggesting something that I could spend more money on I'd give them 5 stars. But they don't pressure you, it's just a suggestion and he may well be right, we could bolster the insulation somewhat but I could probably do that myself. As far as quality of work, American are great and if you are part of their club and have an emergency as I did a few weeks ago during the 110F days we were having (the overflow pipe had blocked causing the safety shutoff to activate) then they send someone out very quickly to fix it.
Roma V.Date review written-July 6, 2016: So I call this company to perform a routine inspection/maintenance on my HVAC system after being convinced by their numerous flyers in the mail on their $99 deal and promise. Keep in mind, it's Independence Day weekend and I wanted to make sure everything was working fine since I was throwing a party on the 4th at my place.
Raul the technician shows up on Friday July 1st and he seems nice, professional and courteous. He did his thing went on checking the system etc etc.....he did suggest upgrading the condenser to a 5 ton unit since mine was a 3 ton (installed by the previous owners) which was supposedly small for a 2000 sqft home. I asked Raul what it would cost? Lo and behold about 10 minutes later his supervisor tech shows up to give me a quote. The quote ranged anywhere from 12-15k depending on options for a 5 ton unit. I decided to take my time, shop around and make an informed decision since my current system is still working fine.
So the next day July 2nd, I turned the AC on for the first time since the inspection. It was getting warm inside and my kids were starting to complain. I turned it on leaving a set temp of 78-80 as I always do. The outside temp was in the high 80's to low 90's. Minutes went by and the inside temp barely moved. It was registering 90 Fahrenheit on the inside while my thermostat is set to 80 degrees. There's usually a difference of 3-5 degrees on a very hot day from the set temp but never this high!!! There was air coming out of the vents but it was warm to luke warm air.
Needles to say I was fuming, called American AC and explained to the lady who answered the phone what's going on.....this was Saturday afternoon, so the earliest they could get someone to my home is on Tuesday since Monday was a national holiday and they don't work Sunday's. But I have a 4th of July party on Monday!!!! At this point the only thing I could do is hope and pray that it won't be a scorcher on the 4th. The temps were in the mid to high 80's at my West Hills home, not a scorcher but still uncomfortable for most people. I had to open all windows and turn on the whole house fan just to keep the air moving around and reduce any discomfort for my guests of about 25 people. It was embarrassing!
I was not a happy camper and come Tuesday morning I had to cancel the appointment with American AC due to unforeseen circumstances. They came the next day, Wednesday, and guess what was the problem?!?!?!? The supervisor tech guy who came over to give me a quote turned OFF the circuit breaker for the AC condenser unit at the electrical box and forgot to turn it back ON!!!!!
He did apologize but as far as I'm concerned, the damaged has already been done. I'll never use this company ever again. Only reason I gave this review a 2 star is because they did show up on time and Raul the original tech guy was professional and courteous. Otherwise it was just a waste of my time and money. I could've just left things as is and not made the call to them and had a great 4th of July party. Oh well.....you live and learn.
Thanks for listening.
Below is a copy of an email I sent to American Air Conditioning & Heating today:
1. Your survey does not work.
2. My technician was not Dylan, it was Raul.
3. It was 112 degrees at 3:45 pm when Raul arrived. My house was 85 degrees. Raul decided that my house should be 75 degrees, even though I had set my thermostat for 78 degrees, so therefore there was something wrong with my system and he would not do the maintenance I had scheduled.
4. Raul said I was out of warranty and therefore it would be $200+ to diagnose the problem. I know I did not sign up for your $432 per year maintenance contract, so maybe that was what he was referring to. Your website says diagnostic services are $99.00 if I was not on your service plan. Why was I quoted $200+?
5. The equipment manufacturer said I had a 10 year warranty on parts.
6. Raul said I was probably low on Freon, that would be about $500+ for Freon. My unit uses R410- A which should be about $100. Since you installed the equipment and he had my file on his iPad, he should have known this.
7. You wanted between $120 - $150 for a new filter. I bought 2 new filters from the distributor, delivered to my house, for $100.00.
8. When your rep called that night to check on the service, I told her how totally unhappy I was with the visit. She said she would talk with management and someone would call me. It has been over a week and no call.
9. I called the equipment manufacturer and they recommended a contractor. New contractor serviced my equipment today. Said there was nothing wrong - total charge $96.00.
10. I made a mistake dealing with you for my equipment two and one half years ago.
11. Please take me off your mailing list.
12. I will be reporting this information on Yelp. Perhaps I can keep someone else from being scammed.
Lisa S.We had excellent service with this company. Our technician (Brent) inspected the furnace and air conditioner for a seasonal sale price of $99. It was well worth it. He gave us great advice on how to lessen the noise of the unit. He also reminded us to get a carbon dioxide monitor. We will be calling this company again (when we have the funds) to install an additional vent/duct.
Jennifer J.We have been dealing with American Air Conditioning and Heating for over 10 years. They installed our system and 10 minutes after they left and a $10,000 bill I called with a question about the duct work. I was told I signed off on the contract and they were not liable. They used symantics to say that they were to confirm ductwork but not actually ensure it worked. Also, we signed a contact for air filter changes and every time they came to change the filters they discovered some major work that HAD to be done or the system would be ruined. Twice I caught them over charging me which they said was an honest mistake. They charged my mom cash for a filter change that was included in the contract and I had to fight to get it back because the technicians claimed he performed a service he didn't. They are lovely and professional but they are ALWAYS trying to hustle you. Beware.
THE WORST!!! -stars if I could! They replaced my whole AC & furnace at my last home in 2011. Beside the fact that they cut corners on my install that I found and demanded correcting, our old neighbor told me that the new owners are replacing the whole system next year!
BRENDA is horrible and the absolute worst when it comes to customer service.
My new house I found has an AC done by American heating and air too!!! Ugh! Was I upset when I realized they had done the install. ALSO 2011. It sounds like a wind tunnel in my living room because they cut a hole in the wall that goes DIRECTLY into the motor of the furnace.
Buyer beware!!! DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY MORE BUSINESS.
John V.Thanks for having filemon as our technition he is always on time, very friendly, and he does a great job thanks filemon
We've been customers for several years and are very happy with their service. We are members of their yearly servicing package. This past week Rodger was our service tech and was right on time. He was very thorough and a really nice guy. Rodger is a positive intelligent man and lives nearby so the service call was easy for him too. I love me some American Air!
Even though I was initially disappointed in the service I got from American Air Conditioning, they seemed genuinely interested in having the problem remedied, and were very willing to work with me until I was satisfied.
The company followed up with us today and has inspected and fixed our issue. They were able to correct our problem and were very courteous.
