I called American Air 1 year ago to service an attic unit. I was quoted a fair price of $125. However, when the tech came out (he was extremely nice), he told me I needed a new compressor unit and it couldn't be repaired. He took the entire unit apart and showed me how destroyed it was. He tech also inspected the downstairs unit and told me there was a severe crack in the mixing changer and I was probably breathing toxic fumes.
Trusting the tech I allowed another person to give me a quote on a replacement unit ($20k for the unit in the attic and $20k for the downstairs unit). Needless to say I was terrified of breathing toxic fumes so I begrudgingly opted for the downstairs unit. (in retrospect... $20!!!! Why on earth did I allow myself to think that was ok).
1 month later I decided to shop around for a better price on the attic unit and found 4 quotes from other companies between $5,700 and $7,500. I was appalled I had been swindled to that extent. Not to mention the top of the line unit I bought sounds like a helicopter. They tech they sent later, told me there was no way to address the loud noise. Every time it cranks up, I am reminded of spending $20k.
To make matters worse, I found someone to repair the condenser for $250. All he did was replace a switch and clean the stupid thing out. It's been going strong for a year now.
But American Air is a family owned business so I decided not to slam them on yelp. And it's embarrassing to admit paying 3 times what it should have cost. However...
Today I received what looked like a bill for $551. Shocked and appalled (again), I called the company and asked why I owed such a ludicrous amount? I was informed it was a renewal notice for VIP service. I was told if I did not renew, my warranty would be voided. Needless to say I was appalled (again). I asked to speak with a supervisor and was informed they were not available, but they could be emailed. It took some time, but after asking more questions I found out the manufacture's warranty would NOT be voided - only the American Air warranty would be void (which I decided 11 months ago I would rather pay another company to handle than have American A/C do for free. Lord knows what hidden fees would be associated with the ""Free"" repair. I might end up with 1970 aluminum siding after they left.
I am very displeased with the extremely high cost of the A/C replacement and misleading information.
The only reason I didn't give 1 star, is aside from the helicopter noise, the unit seems to work well. And the company does go out of their way to be nice. The receptionist Ana is extremely sweet. You can tell she is following a sales script but very uncomfortable with it. I felt bad giving her a hard time.
But please be wary of high costs and highly skilled sales people - albeit very nice. Please be prepared for a 2 hour sales pitch with 5 different brochures. It's like buying a time share.
Other reviewers appear somewhat satisfied after a return call from a supervisor (seems it's always Brenda). Please Please Please don't call me Brenda. I will have some other company address any issues.

George from American Air came out for my inspection special I received in the mail. After receiving many over the years I've lived at my residence I gave in and scheduled an inspection of my AC/Heating unit on my roof. I couldn't be more satisfied with the experience. George was very helpful in explaining what he was doing and what to expect in the future. Very knowledgeable and explained in detail the possible issues with my AC unit. Overall a great experience.

We received a letter from this company offering an air conditioner tune up for $99. We've received them before over the years, but decided to try them out. We made multiple telephone calls, each time being told ""somebody from sales will call you back"". Well ""somebody from sales"" never did"". My question is this: why bother to send out a personalized letter with the owner's picture included, inviting you to try out this great company, only to be a non-responsive flake? You spent money to put your junk mail in my mailbox, and then I'm stupid enough to call you not once, but multiple times. After looking at other reviews for this company it looks like a maintenance scam.

We just had Alex Dominguez come out and service our AC and heater. He was great, very professional and helpful. He opened everything up, inspected and cleaned all units. Made solid recommendations for the future of our systems.

We replaced our ducts with American Air a couple of years ago and decided we needed to check out the 'filth level' at this point. Jonathan Miller came, inspected the ducts, provided photos and made a suggestion for cleaning. Jonathan took a lot of time explaining the condition of the ducts, why we would want to have them cleaned and the process. He answered a lot of questions and didn't make us feel like he was in a rush to get to another appointment. Great Customer service!

My grandparents are in there 70s and 80s and answered an ad by American Air Conditioning & Heating to replace their old A/C system. An A/C technician came to their home and scammed them into buying a $28,000 system for their 1,100 sq ft home!!!! Nothing out of the ordinary just replacing the condenser/coil/furnace/duct work. The price was almost 3x the national average for a 2200 sq ft home. When they told the family how much they were spending, we immediately told them to cancel. They called American to cancel and the technician was rude and asked them, ""who did you talk you?"" After looking into their yelp, it is obvious they have a record of scamming the elderly.

I would like to thank Brent, he answered all my questions regarding getting a new heating and air conditioning system. Did not try and sale me anything gave me all the information I ask for. I told him at the time I was starting a new home project and I would get back to him. when I was ready to start I called him, the next day he came over we completed everything to start. He was Ready to start the next day but I still had something else to complete and I said I would call him with a date. I called him a few days later set the date. On the day the project started I meant Eric and Eric and yes Eric I spelled your name Wrong. They were on time very nice explained everything they were doing. I explained to them that I take care of my father who is 92 who can't get out of bed, they were wonderful with my situation. They went by the CDC guide lines for covid-19 Thank you for a wonderful experience. You are the best!!!

Beware! I've had numerous problems with these guys. I do have to say that I was sold on them in the beginning. It all started out well with a new roof unit years ago and we were very well taken care of but then something changed a few years later when our regular tech guy left and new ones showed up every other time. That's when it went downhill quick. The unit was good, Amana is the brand, but as soon as you're established as a warranties customer with the reoccurring 6 month Maintenence program to supposedly keep the warranty active, they will overlook certain procedures and overcharge for service and parts and use cheap filter replacements.
The last straw was when they found a problem, after being called back 3 times in a row, with the circuit board and said it would be $1100.00 but with our warranty, it would be $800.00. I thought ok but not sure so I called around and found the SAME part for $425.00 INSTALLED from a company I have never used before.
They also overcharged my mom for a full roof unit which was damaged and said it was a name brand unit but in the end was something they put together with cheap parts and thought they could get away with it cause she was elderly!
Please beware.

I called this company to do a Tune up for my Central Air conditioning and Heating since I thought it would be a good idea to do one. Both Air Conditioner and Heater were working fine. The technician took the heater apart and told me that my heater was not good and that the fire flute was loose and needed to buy a new system for up to $18000.00.
I told the technician that both heater and air conditioning were working fine and I will not replace it for now. After pulling the heater apart, he asked me if he should put it back. Did he expected me to pay him the $99.00 for tune up and leave the system totally inoperable when I was using it when he arrived. What I am concerned is that when this technician showed me the flute, he attempted to move this fire flute harder and apparently it became much looser than how it was. Now, I wonder if I really will have a problem or not. So far everything is OK.
I was very disappointed with this service and I feel I was rip off by this company because they already charged me for this so called tuneup.

I had an issue with my very old duct work that needed to be replaced. American Air was so professional, on time, and did a great job. Now i'm saving money in electrical and my home actually is cool with needed and warm when I run the heating. Now I have issues with my water heater and they being not the least expensive but you get what you pay for. They will take care of me. They are very clean and everything is permitted. I am thankful for them. All of their technicians, sales, etc. are amazing. Amir Shabestari came to assist me and he very honest. I appreciate honesty above all.
