Our gas furnace stopped working the day after xmas and the coldest day of the year. Bob came the next day, replaced the furnace in only a few hours, gave us a great price, and we were warm and toasty the same day!
I would highly recommend Bob.

Bob is amazing. My boiler stopped working and he came right away to investigate. It turned out I needed a new steam boiler, which he got right away and scheduled to come back the next day at 7:30 am. He showed up right on time and everything went super smoothly! I am really grateful to him for his help and efficiency, and I also got a great price. He is an honest, capable, and super reliable business owner. I will definitely be using him for all my plumbing needs going forward!

In an attempt to be as unbiased as, possible, I will describe the events and then my take on them afterward so that you can make your own mind up.

My ac unit stopped blowing air and as such called Bob to come and review the system. Bob came out and upon reviewing the unit told me there was a leak and that it would need to be refilled with freon and maybe even replaced. Bob also noted that there was a problem with the compressor. After returning the next day with freon, it cost a total of $600 dollars to refill. I noticed that the cool air was still not blowing out of the vents and asked Bob who said it might take up to 24 hours to work so after 24 hours I called Bob back who said that it must be the compressor and therefore the entire heat pump must be replaced because compressors are not easy to get and install and therefore the cost would be comparable to replacing the unit which he could do for $3,700-$4,000. Bob did mention that the cost of the freon could be taken off the cost of the new unit.

This is where the problem starts.

To ensure that the problem could not be fixed otherwise and to double check my warranty I called the manufacturer and had 2 other AC maintenance companies come by. Both immediately identified that it was in fact not low freon but instead due to the electricity not reaching the circuit board.

After the circuit board was replaced, I asked for the compressor to also be checked (which according to both companies was considered fine), and I also mentioned the freon leak. To check they looked at the amount of pressure and found that the freon was WAY overcharged which can cause significant damage to the system. As such, this was making the system as a whole shut down the moment the AC started to protect the unit as it was way above the safety threshold. To fix the problem, the freon had to be redone. For clarity, my unit can hold a maximum amount of freon of 5.5 lbs according to the manufacturers and as listed directly on the unit. When the existing freon in the system was removed to be refilled a total of 15 lbs was taken out!

I brought this to Bob's attention and asked him what he would like to do about it and if he wanted to make things right. At first, he denied overcharging the freon saying that the unit was definitely more than 5 lbs stating, and I quote ""I did not overcharge your system I carry a maximum of 10 lb with me, and unless you have the smallest air conditioner in DC it runs on more than 5.3 lb.""

Then when I mentioned that the unit clearly said it was 5.5 lbs, he then changed tact and said that the manufacturers set up the unit with that much to begin with (which directly contradicts what the manufacturers have told me now). As a result, Bob has denied all responsibility and has stated that if I can get him the 15 lbs of freon (which in my opinion seems to be an admission that he overcharged it) he will refund my $600. He did not offer to remove it himself or do anything else to rectify the situation which I may remind you potentially caused serious damage to my unit given just how overcharged it was.

My thoughts:

I understand that the problem may be misidentified, and although I do find it odd that Bob was so quick to say it needed new freon, in an effort to be good faith I will chalk that up to a misdiagnosis. However, what is clearly negligence is not following the on-unit limits and overcharging. Furthermore when this was brought to his attention that the initial solution he went with did not solve the problem all that was suggested was replacing the entire heat pump unit because ""compressors are not parts you can get easily and will cost almost as much as replacing the unit."" Finally to not offer any assistance to remedy a mistake on his part (or even an apology for the potential damage caused by overcharging the unit), and instead try to deny any responsibility is just bad business practice.

In my opinion, this entire situation can be understood in 1 of 2 ways:

At best, this series of events is potentially one of negligence, lack of effort, and poor customer relations.

At worse, this series of events is potentially one of shadiness, deliberate manufacturing of issues, and upselling.

Neither of these conclusions represents a business I want to trust with my home appliances in the future.

I had a leak late Saturday night from my AC unit. I messaged early Sunday morning and the owner responded within minutes. He set an appointment up for 11am but arrived a little over 30min early and fixed my leak quickly. He was all done before 10:30am and gave me tips for the future.

My tankless hot water heater stopped working. Sent a message via yelp and Bob responded quickly. Set something up for the next morning (Sun). Came by, repaired it and now I have hot water. Charged a very reasonable fee. I would definitely work with Allied Service company again.

We've had the trifecta in the last five months: boiler, water heater and A/C. Each time, I called Allied. Each time, Bob showed up and replaced the units in the same day. One installation required follow-up service, and he came right out. His prices are very reasonable and his service is excellent. I trust him completely in and with our house. I would not call anyone else.
