Mike Allen began with a vision of entrepreneurship, aiming to be his own boss. He founded Allen Tackle Company, delivering top-notch fishing tackle and supplies across the country. He created a product known as Allen’s No Tie Spring Knot, a tool that enables anglers to attach bait and hooks to fishing lines without traditional knots. This product sold thousands of packs nationwide. As he became busy with fishing tackle sales, he ventured into home repair services. He established Allen’s Air and Repair in the late 90s, which began his foray into heating and air conditioning. By 2003, he was busy enough to dive into the business full-time, putting in 70-80 hours a week. After much effort and saving, he purchased Kentucky Mechanical and Affordable Plumbing in 2006. Following that, business boomed, becoming overwhelming for him and his family. He downsized in 2012 to a manageable staff of 5-6 employees, which he currently maintains.
He has lived in Richmond for approximately 45 years. He enjoys fishing and spending time in Florida. He follows NASCAR, practices his faith, and plays golf whenever possible.

I really liked the fact that our invoice listed a very detailed description of the work he did, demonstrating that this company strives for transparency so there won't be any misunderstanding between customer, technician, and company. In addition to the simple repair he made on our HVAC system, he conducted a check on the freon levels in our air conditioner. His check showed we were extremely low. As he was about to put in the freon, he discovered that his first check was erroneous. Our freon was perfect. Though we had accepted we were about to purchase more freon at a hefty price and Alex could've pulled the wool over our eyes at that point, he informed us our freon levels were fine. Such honesty is so refreshing. We were so impressed with his service that we purchased a maintenance plan for regular semi-yearly checkups and cleanings. Plus, we will recommend your company to friends and family.
Jessica H.False advertisement from the manager Jake at Allen's KY Mechanical HVAC. Customers beware of price quotes. I contacted this company twice requesting a diagnostic quote was quoted one price, then once the mechanic completed the diagnostic the company quoted an additional price for travel, time and labor. If you have an opportunity to have an HVAC company come to your house, then please go with a different company. One that is honest up front about their fees.
Mark E.Our heating/cooling unit started getting frost all over the outside of it where all the vents are. I had a guy at church tell us that he thought we were low on the chemical freon and that's why the unit wasn't defrosting properly. My wife and I had also come up with the same conclusion, so we started calling around to see if we could get the unit serviced.
We called several companies and they all tried to gouge us. One company came out and gave us the usual B.S. about all the electronic circuits that need to be replaced to the tune of almost $800+.
We called Allen's Kentucky Mechanical out and their representative, Nick, ran his diagnostic on it. Yep, it was 4 pounds light on freon. The price was about $350 because freon and the licenses to haul it around aren't cheap. Not only that, but the expertise in labor and testing was included. So, it was a good price for excellent service and repair.
Nick was super professional and courteous and blew my wife and I away with his professionalism. Total pro! We sure do appreciate Allen's Kentucky Mechanical and the staff there. They called right back, arrived on time, and got the job done right. A+ on all levels. Unit runs great and not a lick of frost on it.
