Ive worked with Alex Figliolia on a number of occassions. They are always quick to respond and easy to work with. I look forwarding to working with them again and would recommend them to colleagues as well.
Frank P.My water main was broken and I received a 3 day notice to repair from the dep. I saw their trucks in the neighborhood so I decided to give them a call. They came out and give me a proposal right away. I called a few other places that I found online but they were the most professional, curious and affordable. They came out the very next day and did the job, got all the permits and fixed my cement. I highly recommend this company!
Called them to set up an appointment last week for a quote. They asked me where I found out about them, I said on the web. Time and day were set, wrote it in my calendar, all was good. I called 10 minutes before scheduled appointment the following week, all of of sudden they never heard of me, nothing in their books. Person who? Nope, not on our schedule.
Really?
Typical plumber blow off.
And this was for a potential job of 5K+
Roger M.Watch out for this company. It is what they don't tell you that they should tell you that hurts. We hired them to replace the main valve to the watermain. They recommended, and we agreed, to replace the tie in to the city water main as well.
What they didn't tell us is that the City will get involved in enforcing new codes, so that in addition to the water main, we will need to install backflow prevention. And you need an engineer to file with the DEP for that, and you will need an ""inside plumber"" to file with Department of Buildings. These little adds amounted to 50% additional cost, plus a lot of headache. For some reason, although they felt that they could do the work inside, they refused to file for the inside work.
Then there was the part where they bid the inside work based on the engineers plans, then tried to bill extra for ""all"" of the inside work they bid.
And when you try to deal with them, they say they have been in business for xx years and they know best and you (meaning me) are stupid. Well yes, stupid to trust them. Find someone else. Have all the engineering and DEP / DOB approvals before you start.
TRIED TO CHEAT ME, A LOYAL REPEAT CUSTOMER, OUT OF $20,000
Alex Figliola tried to cheat a loyal repeat customer out of almost $20,000. I dodged a bullet by figuring out that there was no need for the sewer job they that swore I needed. Then, they wouldn't return my 50% deposit when I canceled the job, so I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Of course, I won. But it took hours and hours of my time over the course of a month!
Perhaps they are just disorganized and not well run, but it sure felt like a calculated scam. What really blows me away with disappointment -- and I feel so stupid for trusting them -- is that I'm a repeat customer of almost a decade! Loyalty to Alex Figliola got me complete disrespect and almost cost me nearly $20,000. Here's the scary story.
After the low temps earlier in the year, I found about 4 inches of clear water in the basement of my house one Wednesday morning. I called my regular plumber, who told me to call Alex Figliola as I had before for big jobs. The guy from AF, let's call him Leonardo, came out to look at my basement. After a very quick look, he told me that I needed new sewer pipes -- for almost $20,000 -- and AF needed a 50% deposit. Leonardo told me they would start Friday morning, and then the water flow into my basement would stop.
I called my insurance company and was told that sewer water is dirty and smelly, not crystal clean and clear like the water in my basement. I guess that's obvious, but Leonardo was in his sixties, told me he had been in business for 40 years, and was certain I had broken sewer pipes. Plus, he knew I was a repeat customer so I thought he would return the respect I showed him and his company.
I called the AF office about 7:00 that night to ask them to take another look, because the leak was coming from the side of the townhouse and water was clean and clear, so their first ""diagnosis"" seemed incorrect. They didn't call me back, so I called back the next day, Thursday. They said they never got my message. I asked that Leonardo call me back.
All this time, the water was still flowing into my basement. Leonardo never called back.
On Friday morning, I got a call from someone else at AF, who said they were not coming to start that day. And he did know when they would come and deal with the leaking water. I asked for Leonardo to call me back. The AF guy on the phone wouldn't take a message.
So I called the AF office again and asked them to have Leonardo call me. No call.
I called again on Friday afternoon. Leonardo finally called around 4:00. I told him that my insurer, and the water remediation service they recommended, both told me that sewer water is dirty and smelly water, unlike the water in my basement. I also told him that water was flowing from the side of the house, not the front where the sewer pipes are. I asked him to take another look to be sure he assessed the situation correctly.
He would not come! Instead, Leonardo told me that the walls of my house acted as filters when the water flowed through. That's why my sewer water is clear and not smelly. Old stone walls act like a giant Brita water filter? WTF AF?
I told him the answer didn't make sense. His answer was ""trust us"", which my grandfather taught me translated into ""fuck you.""
I was desperate. So I called my neighbor to ask if he had water in his basement. I should have called earlier, but Leonardo seemed so certain he was right. PLUS, I WAS A REPEAT CUSTOMER! I HAD BEEN LOYAL TO ALEX FIGLIOLA. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT THEY WOULD TREAT ME WITH SUCH DISRESPECT AS TO CHARGE FOR WORK I DID NOT NEED.
When my neighbor got home from work, he looked and there was several feet of water on his basement. What happened? The house of a neighbor 2 doors down had a broken clean water pipe, which flooded through my neighbor's basement into mine. We all talked, and within an hour or two the water stopped flowing.
I called Leonardo to tell him what happened and that I wanted to cancel the contract and get back my deposit of almost $10,000. He offered no apology. No ""whoops."" He told me to call 311 to report my neighbor. AT THAT POINT, I THOUGHT THAT LEONARDO WAS JUST A BAD APPLE AND THE COMPANY WOULD QUICKLY REFUND MY MONEY. AFTER ALL -- I WAS A LOYAL REPEAT CUSTOMER!
BOY, WAS I WRONG.
LONG STORY MADE SHORT: They jerked me around for a month. I disputed the charge on my credit card, which took hours and hours of my time. I won and got my money back. But no call, no note, no apology from the folks at AF.
BEWARE! Untrustworthy AF!
Tricia M.I would highly recommend this firm for replacement of a water main line pipe. They were eager, efficient, tidy and fast. They even had a lawyer on site to observe the digging to make sure no gas lines or tree roots were disturbed. His main job was to secure a permit from the city. The two teams were very good and the quiet spoken Mr. Johnson was very nice.
Jennifer R.If I could give them zero stars I would. This is the second time this company has been doing work for the city on my block and they've been nothing but rude and a nuisance. After doing work in the street, making a big hole, traffic was rerouted around the site. They placed traffic cones for the cars to follow and placed them on my sidewalk in front of my house. After talking to the workers and asking them to please remove the cones so cars are not driving on my sidewalk, I was spoken to rudely then ignored as they continue their work and cars continued to drive on my sidewalk. Since that day I now have cracks in the curb and the sidewalk in front of my house. Today they're back doing work down the block and some of their cars are parked nearby. One car was taking up two spots and my husband politely asked the man in the car to please move back a little so he can park. Again the man responded rudely and would not move his car. We also spoke to and complained to the DOT worker there attending to the job. I never hired them personally, but I know I will never hire them and never recommend them.
They stole $450 dollars from me when they did not properly perform a camera test.
I found someone to fix the old sewer trap for $13,000 less.
Crooks!
Magda T.Great and effective workers. We needed to have an old iron water main replaced and a new curb valve installed. They did it in magic time. Cleaned up. I would recommend them without reservations.
This company SUCKS!!! They are not responsible, no credibility, rude and always talk over me when I called them to tell them about my concerns regarding the new sewer line and traps they installed in my basement. They didn't backfilled the soil into the hole that they dig so I have this big hole like a cave in outside of the street in front of my house and caused over a foot of rain water, soil and street water into my basement. I called to let them know and all they said was not my fault.. call your gas company and 311. ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS!!?? the DOT and Gas company are not going to be responsible for the dump asshole work you done to my house.. No one is dumb enough to admit if they never done the work outside my property. Their service and customer service is not recommended. I recommended other company for your works but NOT Alex Figliolia water and sewer... I DON'T CARE IF THEY HAVE 80 YEARS OF SERVICES because it's all lies.
