Al Terry Plumbing & Heating, Inc. has been a trusted name in energy-efficient appliance solutions in New Hampshire since 1976. Our journey began when Al Terry decided to launch his own business, focusing initially on single-family homes. From plumbing to heating, cooling, and everything in between, we still provide comprehensive services for our valued clients today. We are more than just a business; we are a dedicated team committed to ensuring your satisfaction. To ensure your peace of mind, we meticulously vet and train every member of our team before they serve you. Whether you require a swift repair, routine maintenance, or a brand-new installation, we are available whenever you need us, 24/7, 365 days a year.
Al Terry embarked on his entrepreneurial journey in 1976 by founding Al Terry Plumbing and Heating. He primarily focused on plumbing and heating services for single-family homes. Michael Terry became part of the company in 1982, beginning as an apprentice and rising to the role of President. With a strong reputation for quality work at competitive prices, they successfully expanded into the commercial sector. During the late 1990s, clients started seeking assistance for their plumbing and heating systems once warranties had lapsed. This growing need prompted the creation of our dedicated service department.
Our guiding principle is to be the top choice in our industry. The service department began modestly, focusing on delivering quality service. Similar to our earlier ventures, the service department expanded by delivering dependable, quality service at competitive rates. By 2007, we committed to ensuring the proper care of all our clients' systems.

Dawn R. P.I moved into a new house and scheduled a furnace cleaning for a Monday morning. During the $239 cleaning, the service technician didn't notice one of the thermostats wasn't working. I called back that Friday because the house was FREEZING, and asked that they waive the $79 call fee because they were just there 4 days prior. No dice. The service technician then wanted to charge me almost $500 for a new thermostat!!!! Something that can be purchased at Home Depot for $30. When I questioned the price, the manager told me that their thermostat came with a warranty! Seriously!? I don't know how he could have given me that response with a straight face. Anyway, I wasn't born yesterday, so I refused the $500 thermostat, to which they charged me a $74 ""diagnostic fee"" for telling me the thermostat was broken. So all in all it cost me $392 for a furnace cleaning and for a technician to tell me I needed a $500 thermostat AND I was left with no heat when the temperature outside was 20 degrees.
HORRIBLE first impression and I will NEVER use their service again. I have no idea how they have so many good reviews, but I think they are thieves.
Sumo A.Still a work in progress...but so far unimpressed. My heat went out, and I called Al Terry at the rec of a neighbor on Monday. It wasnt supposed to be super c9ld so I made an appointment Thursday between 12 and 230. At 230 I called to ask the ETA and was told everyone was delayed for no heat calls. You mean like my no heat call? That I made an appintment for 3 days ago? The guy finally showed up about 4:45. He was friendly and seemed knowledgable. He told me what I already suspected. My heater needed replacing. Since Friday was a Holiday someone would get back to me Monday (today) with an estimate and to set a schedule. I called at 330 to follow up. I was told the estimator would call me right back. No return call. My options are limited so I will press on, but so far I am seriousky dissapounted with their customer service and general insincerity.
Years ago. Al Terry's worker was cutting a template for a bath control in my bathroom. They cut it with a piece of cardboard underneath it, but put an approximate 8 inch slash through my linoleum in the bathroom, then covered it with a rug. When my husband called their office, they spoke to their worker-who of course denied the action. Never called them again
David B.I had a problem with a broken water heater and needed it fixed fast as it was leaking into the floor below in a condo building I live in. I had seen their ads on TV, and they are near where I live. I went to the office and spoke to a Ted who was very polite and helpful. He had me call the scheduling person, Kelly, who was wonderful. This was at 3 pm on a Thursday afternoon. I was a new customer. She said she could have someone there at 7:30 the next morning. I got a call promptly at 7;30, from Kyle, one of their plumbers. He was terrific too.
He went over what they offered, etc., and I told him to go ahead and install the new water heater. He finished at about 1 pm and did a very neat, professional job.
I was very happy that they took care of me immediately, especially as I wasn't a previous customer. I signed up for their Diamond Club to get additional discounts and preferred service later on. All of the three people I dealt with were excellent representatives for the company.
I probably could have shopped around and saved a little money, but with something this important, I'm more concerned with quality work and great, fast service - which Al Terry delivered in spades. The old saying - ""sometimes, the less you pay, the more it costs"", is true, and especially with something as important as pluming and heating.
The worker did not show up on time. He was unfriendly. They made me wait 4 days to get a plumber to my house and for faster service they offered after hours service for twice the money. For a clogged drain they hit me with a $69 service call and $256 to unclog a DRAIN. VERY overpriced. The tech was indifferent, very overweight and showed up with an iPad to bill me. When I asked why they couldn't give me a phone estimate their excuse was they don't know what the problem was. I said CLOGGED DRAIN. If they told me it would be close to $300 bucks, I never would have wasted my $69 to find out. HORRIBLE service.
My recent experience with Al Terry was terrific. My 100+ year hold home had several plumbing issues in the basement. The primary problem was the cast iron sewer pipe was starting to fail and needed to be replaced. I also had several areas in which the copper piping was corroded and leaking. Peter came out and provided a professional evaluation, scope and estimate. The service was scheduled within a week and technicians Eric and Andy performed the work. From A to Z the experience was spot on. Thanks to the team at Al Terry!
I've used Al Terry for ~3 years now at three different spots for my boilers and hot water heaters, and they always do great work at at least competitive pricing. The most expensive job I got quotes from 5 different places around Manchester and Al Terry was the easiest to deal with, fastest to respond, and lowest price with the best warranty.
Sometimes they get busy or make mistakes, I'm sure, but I've always found them to be earnest and they bend over backwards to accommodate customers.
Maryann M.Three months later, no AC. Different problem. Tech did full diagnostic in June, said unit had plenty of life left in it. Agreed to additional $200 ""cleaning"" now I am out $447 and still have no AC. will not be calling them back to ""fix the problem"" again.
They are very nice and courteous however their prices are MUCH higher than every single competitor in the area. Quite often double what others charge for the same work.
I was told their prices are so high because they guarantee their work for 5 years. They also noted they charge these prices to pay for advertising.
It seems to me they would be better served charging a realistic price and do a quality job, the power of word-of-mouth is much greater than an annoying ad on the radio that nobody pays attention to.
Again I cannot comment on the quality of work as I was unwilling to pay their rates. ($300 to replace a simple, easily accessible ball valve...) so my review is based only on their pricing.
Lin E.After running away from Heritage (thank God) Al Terry Plumbing & Heating is the next company I tried. I had them come out for a service call on a gas boiler, turned out to be some electrical thing. That boiler is 32 years old but they were able to get the part within a few hours I think, and fixed the problem. The cost felt reasonable. While waiting to hear back about the part, the guy also answered all my random questions about boilers, which was really nice. (If I were him, I'd have gone out to hide in the van, but he was gracious.) That was like two years ago or so.
Today I had them tune and clean both gas boilers. Total cost $348. I found both service men to be timely, polite, clean, and knowledgable. I needed a copy of the invoice/receipt immediately for a reason, and the tech was able to email it to me from his tablet, literally as I asked him for it. Oh, there was actually an error on that invoice, and I really did need a copy ASAP. I called the office and got a corrected invoice while I was still on the phone. Awesome service.
I think they're great, at least in my experience. If I were staying in the area they would be my go-to for plumbing and heating stuff.
