I am Scott Spencer, the owner of Affordable Plumbing and Heat, Inc. For the last 15 years, I have balanced raising my four kids with my work in the plumbing field. Affordable Plumbing has been a family-owned business since 1995, and we uphold the same values from our humble beginnings. Customers desire VALUE, which means receiving quality service at a reasonable cost. The plumbing industry often suffers from a poor reputation due to commissioned plumbers and flat-rate pricing. The enticing free estimate makes it difficult to refuse someone once they enter your home. We advocate for clear pricing on the phone, offering hourly rates for our plumbers. I personally promise to do everything we can to fulfill your expectations and create a pleasant experience for you.

Groucho M.Do not use this company. I paid over $300 for replacing a few bolts on the toilet tank. This is a completely unacceptable price. They wanted over $200 for each clogged drain. I used to call affordable for years but will no longer. Try other companies as they will do it for less. Never again.
Called for furnace diagnostic and was quoted $75. The gentleman Dillion concludes that my gas valve needed to be replaced. He quoted me $611 and that he needed to go get the part. I looked online and found the part for under $100 and felt confident doing the repair myself. I called the company not even 5 minuted from him leaving to cancel the request. Over the phone Tom said no problem it will just be $75 for the diagnostic. I agreed to that payment. When the tech returned he said it was now $150 for the diagnostic, in which I told him what I was told. I get on the phone with Tom and he says: ""I was thinking about it, and I'm charging ""double"" for our time because we left to go get the part. I advised I called literally five minutes after he left and felt charging me double was absurd. He said ok I'll lower it to $120. Still felt that the original quote of $75 was more than fair, considering all the tech did was wait on hold for Lennox support, and that was all I was going to pay. He then tells me that's fine, I'll just send the rest to collections!!! Which is ridiculous. Tom was incredibly rude and I will not be recommending this company to any of my friends or clients.
Cindy P.Diagnosed problem with leak above water heater. Was told the $75 trip fee would be waved. Upon reviewing the bill the trip fee was not waived. When questioned the tech I was told he did not charge me for work done worth the $75 and came up with a bid after the work was done that was $250 higher than the charge. Reported the irregularity to their customer service and was told I would receive a call from a manager. No call was received. To top it off the technician unplugged the freezer and ruined over $200 worth of food. Not a good experience..won't use again
I am from Colorado Springs, CO. when this review appeared it said I was from San Francisco, CA that is not true and I do not know why it said that. here is the review, from Colorado Springs, CO.
in the fall the pipes under my house backed up and affordable plumbing came out and told me that it had to be snaked out and that since the pipe was 16' down it would cost be $5200 instead of the $3000...something because pipes are usually only about 8' down and mine was 16'. so the first day they spent ALL DAY digging an enormous hole in my front yard. NO PIPE to be found, by the end of the day another person was sent to my house and using a new tool (what I was told by the man working the excavator was that the tool to find where my pipes were had not properly found the pipes and that it has been sent to repairs and a new one was being used right now to locate your pipes again...his exact words). this was the entire first day. Upon using the ""new"" tool to locate my pipes...it was found 2' over and 8' down!!!
what I want you to know is that they still charged me the $5200. I called and said that this was wrong and the only reason I was quoted the amount of $5200 because the pipe was 16' down. I said that it wasn't and that it was on Affordable Plumbing, not me. His voice got louder (as if I was stupid) and said ""yes, but we DID SPEND THE WHOLE DAY digging in your yard"" ! AND this was the OWNER who I finally got someone to put on the phone after numerous calls.
I told him...yes, but that was on your company, not me, your equipment malfunctioned. He yelled at me and told me that all the (whatever they are called) were brand new and did not malfunction! and then said that your mother had no problem paying it, and it was okay with her. WHAT??!! You are a crook, my mother is dying of cancer and you robbed her, you made a mistake and you want her to pay for it. He repeated that she was okay with it.
do not trust this company, ever! they are crooks and will say anything they want to, do anything they want to and bill you for it. they said that they would put my yard back the way it was....???!!! my grassy area is no longer. It is April now and no grass, there is grass on the rest of the yard. Crooks and criminal. Do not even entertain doing business with this business.
Heidi F.Total scam! Was told that my entire shower unit needed to be cut out, a new one soldered, to the tune of $800-1000. What we really needed was a $9 part and some elbow grease. Wouldn't refund my service call money even though they agreed that the information I was given was bogus. DON'T CALL THEM!
Fast response. Dakota was great ... fast, knowledgeable. We could not be happier. Just found our new plumbers. Yeah,
Kristie R.Because of all of the recommendations I called Affordable Plumbing a couple days ago. I am so beyond disappointed right now I can't even see straight. On the phone I made it clear we were both disabled veterans and were having a hard time and didn't have a lot of money. I knew I needed a new wax ring in one toilet. Jonas came to our home and took one look at our upstairs toilet and said because the bolts were rusted we could spend $387 on a major rebuild of a 15 year old toilet or have him install a new one for $450. He made this sound like an emergency. I had him look at our other toilet just in case and of course it was the same situation. So... $900. I didn't have it, but they were kind enough to give me 5% off for being a veteran. Among other things they tried to get me to spend an additional $249 so I could get financing. Anyway, so I went to the bank and drained our savings and put part on our credit card. After all that and feeling sick, we have had 3 plumbers tell us we were completely ripped off and should have been given other options. The toilets that were used (Gerber's most basic) probably cost no more than $100 each so... $655 in labor? And I specifically asked about going to Lowe's and getting my own toilet and he told me he would charge $400 to install 2. Now I feel like a complete idiot for even letting them in my home. Very disappointing. I will be taking this to BBB. I have 2 plumbers that have now given me estimates to prove price gouging.
We called Affordable Plumbing to look at our furnace that stopped working the night before. They told me that two specific parts were broken beyond repair, and that it would be well over $1,000 to fix. They led me to believe that it would be much cheaper and a better decision at that point to get a new furnace at a cost of three or four thousand. Our furnace was not that old, so we decided to get a second opinion, and we're so glad we did!
Another tech came out later that day and had the furnace up and running within minutes. He did a full safety inspection and said that both the parts we were told were broken were totally fine, and that the only issue he saw was a pipe that was disconnected. I'm glad we trusted our gut and got another opinion, it saved us several thousand dollars. We will not use Affordable Plumbing & Heat in the future, and feel they are very dishonest.
CALL SOMEONE ELSE!!!
Hired Affordable Plumbing & Heat to come out and attach new Honeywell humidifiers that were replacement through a recall of humidifiers we had purchased from Affordable years ago that never really worked. We had the new humidifiers installed but they were not plug and play so we needed help. The tech arrived around 4pm and got them working within an hour but didn't have a piece of wood to mount the RO system. I said I had wood in the garage but he said it was an easy installation and seemed to want to leave. I assumed because it was after 5pm. He talked my husband into finishing the work and the bill for just over an hour (including instructions to my husband) was $375.00. The installation was anything but easy. 3 hours of going online to watch videos and finally the RO was installed but it was constantly flowing water into the drain. I called Affordable and they said that there would not be a charge if this was a continuation of a job not finished, I assumed it was. Upon coming out and looking the tech told me that the system was a steam system and that was bad. He said the water is supposed constantly run because 70 percent of the water is wasted and tried to sell me another better unit. Since this one is brand new I asked him to bypass the RO system which was removing the tube from the RO and putting back on the old filter. It took him minutes. Came upstairs and asked for an additional $150.00. He never told me he was going to bill me before he started. We could have easily moved the tube from the new system to the old one. When I called to speak to a manager they listened, called me back and told me that the tech told them that my husband volunteered to finish the job. OH NO... that never happened. He agreed when it looked like the tech wanted to leave. The manager agreed that I should have been told about the $150.00 charge in advance but oh well, they felt it was a fare charge for the service. I would never have called their tech out again to finish the job if I knew they would bill an additional $150.00 for less than an hour of work (which they lied about how long it took). So for $475.00 we did more than half of the work to install these humidifiers and would never work again with Affordable Heating and Air. Ever! To bad for them because I am a property manager with several properties that I was talking to their tech about before he started working on and not finishing the job.
The plumber who came was prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable, but if I had known how much they were going to charge, I never would have hired ""Affordable.""
When I called to make an appointment for an estimate, I mentioned that the problem was a leak in our upstairs shower going through the floor to the ceiling below. I was told by the dispatcher they don't have an hourly rate, but charge by the job. Two other companies I called told me they charge $150/hour, so since Affordable could come sooner than the others, I asked them to come, thinking the rate would be the same. I was shocked when the plumber told me they charge $203.12/hour to find a leak--more than is charged to fix a problem! Why is that? And why didn't the dispatcher tell me what the rate would be? She knew what the problem was.
Secondly, the plumber left us with a hole in our ceiling that we had to pay someone else to fix and a small caulking job we had to do. Another company told me they wouldn't have fixed the hole in our ceiling, either, but would have caulked our shower if the job wasn't very big (it wasn't).
Sorry, but all things considered, I won't hire Affordable again.
