In 1979, AEMS was established as Automated Energy Management Systems by Roy Matthews, a long-time New Jersey entrepreneur. Initially, the company concentrated solely on designing, constructing, installing, and maintaining temperature control and energy management systems. As the years passed, the company evolved into a full-service HVAC and plumbing organization, focusing on energy-efficient products. In May 2016, after over 35 years of hands-on management, Roy moved to a strategic advisory position, transferring his ownership along with service manager Mike Ruberto to Sudeep Das, a private investor residing in New Jersey.

Sudeep Das holds a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and brings 17 years of experience in Private Equity, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Technology Services. He earned his degrees from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business, the University of Toledo's College of Engineering, and Malaviya National Institute of Technology in India. Sudeep purchased the company from Roy Matthews, the founder, in May 2016.
