Company Overview
Skilled in all aspects of plumbing, from restoring vintage homes to new builds and enhancing water services. Operating in the Seattle vicinity since the 1950s, we’ve seen and resolved countless plumbing situations. We are certified in the most current plumbing materials and installation methods, backed by the expertise of three generations. We deliver quality service at a competitive price.
With skills honed in his grandfather's shop on Capital Hill, Jay has encountered nearly every plumbing issue and can troubleshoot effectively. Jay combines expertise in vintage plumbing with training in the latest installation techniques. Character matters when allowing someone into your home, and reliability is often lacking in today’s plumbing industry. But at Above Plumbing & Contracting, we prioritize delivering the dependable and quality service that established Jay's grandfather's shop and continues to honor his legacy.
In the 1950s, Jay Frees Plumbing was launched on Capital Hill. From a young age, Jay was immersed in the plumbing trade at his grandfather's shop. He watched his father operate the family business. When Jay was in his late teens, the family business was sold as his grandfather neared 90, taking the family name with it. In 2007, Jay (the third) founded Above Plumbing and Contracting after training with the local plumbing union to master modern techniques. With extensive training and knowledge, Jay can tackle even the most complex conversion updates, new construction designs, and troubleshoot issues that many plumbers struggle with. Jay embodies a return to the days when character and integrity mattered. Dependable, honest, and seasoned...
As a husband, father, and business owner, Jay is committed to assisting others. Jay frequently offers guidance over the phone for straightforward plumbing repairs that others would typically charge for.

I can't rave enough about this company! I've had 2 plumbing issues in the past few years. I had other companies bid the jobs. None were as competitive, honest and responsive as Jay Frees. I will no longer call for bids. Moving forward it will be one call to Above Plumbing and Jay Frees. A+++

Simple no-hassle business. Very clear, very honest, and does a fantastic job with his craft. I'd call Jay again before any of the guys with radio and TV commercials. Their rates have always been ridiculous. Jay is up front about pricing and doesn't charge hidden fees like a fee just to show up at your place then another fee to do the work and fees for each part.
One price and he'll teach you exactly what he's doing when he does it so that you can learn for next time!

Nicely done, Jay. Thanks for working us into your tight Monday schedule for a quick drain fix! Now I can shower without also taking a bath - hooray!

Jay was prompt, courteous and fantastic. He unclogged my toilet without any additional sell on, and he was honest about his pricing. Highly recommended!

Jay is the best. I have known the man for years and have seen nothing but over the top customer service. He's filled with integrity and has a genuine care for doing a great job for his clients. The Eastside and Seattle are lucky to have Jay and his crew around in times of plumbing needs.

Too bad the guy that owns this company didn't know I'd be writing a review. His service might have been good, if only he would have EVER called me back to schedule a time to come fix my plumbing problem. No word, ever. If you need service in a timely manner call someone else.

This was my first experience with Jay, and it could not have been better. I heard of him through Yelp, so I called and left a message on his voice mail, and within ten minutes he called me back. I had a major leak in my main water supply hose to the house, and it looked to under the driveway, or under my cement front porch. Jay had my best interests in mind when it came to the expense of what a major job like that might entail.
I had already called a company that specialized in boring under driveways and they were due to come out that morning to see if indeed it was under the driveway area. If they had not found it necessary to use there high end boring equipment, I would have used Above Plumbing & Contracting in a heart beat to make a repair to the main line. Jay will be my plumber from here on out for my normal plumbing needs.

I can't believe how helpful they were. I found them on Yelp when my bathtub started dripping. I called asking him to come out but instead he told me which part was most like the issue and instructed me on how to get a replacement and replace it myself. Sure enough he was right about what was causing it and its fixed.

Yes, you should call Jay Frees at Above Plumbing.
Last night the cold water faucet decided it was the right time to refuse shut off. I came to Yelp to look for a local plumber, as I prefer a small and local when I have the choice.
Jay returned my call within 20 minutes, and offered to walk me through what he thought the problem might be. I told him I would rather he stop by since I have very little handygirl capacity. He was at my house within a few hours, as promised. Jay diagnosed the problem in minutes and showed me the parts I would need and how to fix it myself. In addition to being really nice and helpful, he didn't charge me a dime for his time. I found the parts and fixed it easily, which I would never have been able to do without his help.
I would definitely recommend Jay to my friends and neighbors. I will absolutely call Jay next time I have plumbing issues.

We had plumbing issue pop up on a Sunday. My husband isn't a plumber but is very handy. He ran into a mental block in regards to how to handle a plumbing scenario. I left a message for Above Plumbing on Sunday night and got a call back within an hour... and he doesn't even list that he work weekends! He told my husband exactly how to fix the issue and what tool to get at home depot. Many plumbers would take the $200 bucks to come out on a weekend and this guy was nice enough to walk us through it. I will certainly use him in the future.
