ABC Handyman
Company Overview
I’m the handyman you need by your side. People say Garth is like a Swiss army knife. If it’s related to your property, I can most likely support you. Serving the residents of Clark County, WA. In 1986, I launched a local business focused on home improvements. I worked alongside owner-builders, assisting in the building of over 200 homes. As a master carpenter and expert shingle applicator, I also specialize in home energy audits. I have a background in the solar sector and now oversee my own rental properties. I can assist you with your property management needs. I keep getting inquiries about fixing washing machines, plumbing, windows, or creating kitchens that rival mine. I consistently reply that it will require more time than you think and will be pricier than you imagine.

I had a new Shower, and fan installed in my Bathroom. Garth and his crew did a GREAT job ! They were all very friendly and did very good quality work, felt they went above and beyond, to make sure the job was done right ! Garth would check with me daily to ""see how things went today"" which i thought was awesome ! ABC did everything he said he would and MORE! Would highly recommend garth and ABC Handyman!!! I will definitely, Be hiring him again !!
PDXtransplant -.Garth helped me renovate a rental house I had owned for the past 15 years to prep it for sale. When you're upgrading a house built in the 1920s there will be a variety of issues you simply couldn't anticipate. Garth worked with me more like a partner than a vendor to overcome these challenges and get the rather large project done on time and on budget. He's particularly skilled at creative and cost effective ways to improve properties and does a great job keeping subs and labor focused and on the job. Garth is a no BS, get it done, pro.
I learned a hard lesson on this one, and I will never hire help without verifying credentials on Washington States Labor and Industry again. This man is not only a fraud, his work is amateurish and sloppy. The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries issues general contractor and specialty licenses. It is against Washington state law to perform handyman work without registering with the state's department of labor office. He will look you in eye and smile and tell you he is licensed, while he has outstanding fines against him because he does not have a license. (He charges prices as if he is licensed as well.)
I hired him for two seemingly simple jobs: replacing an outdoor faucet and replacing the master bath faucet and shower head. Both jobs lasted a few weeks and then disaster. The front faucet starting dripping and then pouring out water. The hot water connection in the master bath was not connected properly, came loose, and now I have wall damage. Not only that, he got the hot and cold water mixed up and missed a piece on the faucet so it was not only loose, it leaves a gap for water to get through the wall. Because the work was on warrantee and the hot water pouring down my wall was an emergency, I called him to come out ASAP and take care of it. We made an appointment for 2:30 and he blew me off. I literally had to call all day before he came at 7:00 to fix it. It was at that point I finally did some digging and discovered he is a fraud. Now I have to get another handyman to come out and recheck his work in the bathroom, fix the front faucet outside again, and help me assess for damages. Don't call Garth or any handyman unless you've verified they are legit. Don't buy the nice smile and smooth talk; you'll be sorry.
Garth is very competent and knows what he is doing. He did a number of different repairs for us (shower door, outside faucet) and replaced a number of items around the house (porch light, down spouts). He gave us some good advice as to what else needs to be done to maintain our home. Thank you, Garth!
David H.Garth converted our fire pit to gas, and we are pleased with his efforts. He was quick to come out and scope the project, and he followed through as agreed upon. He was professional and courteous throughout the project. I would use his services again in the future.
Philip D.While initially Garth was responsive, after he gets paid, the warranty work that he promises is non-existent. I have tried several times to contact him about things that he needs to fix on an install that he did, however, since he will not get back to me I have no choice but to report him to the BBB. I am severely disappointed in his ability to live up to his word. If you hire him for something keep in mind that you get one shot, when he's paid, he disappears.
He is all promises and goodwill until he needs to live up to his word.
Untrustworthy, deceitful and dishonest.
Garth has done work for us many times and always does a great job. In our experiences he has made it easy to get help when we need it and works around our schedule. We recently needed help with a storage unit and he was able to drop what he was doing and get to us in 40 minutes. Thanks Garth!
Sally K.I reported Garth to WA L&I when I discovered he was operating without an active contractor's license. He received his FOURTH ticket which came with a $5k fine, and also a $500 plumbing fine. I also received a response from someone else on Yelp who wrote that Garth did something very similar to his apartment, right after my experience.
Garth was fabulous! Wonderful person and very skilled. I will definitely use him again!!
Wendy A.I've been waiting for over a month to write this review. I wanted to see if my initial reaction remained and also how the work quality held up. I am now confident to proceed.
Work done: removal of old and installation of new tub fixtures (drain plug, faucet, lever and shower head).
The two positives about this experience were that, 1. He was available to come within our time frame as we had out of town guests arriving and, 2. He was friendly and enthusiastic (and very chatty)
Other than that, we were quite disappointed. The fixtures I picked out at H.D., he said, were not compatible even though they were the same brand as the original. He told me he would make a call to the company to see what their recommended alternative was. In the meantime, he would need my husband to go to Home Depot to get plumber's putty and silicone caulk, which we were kind of surprised he didn't have with him. Garth made 2 trips to get the parts needed and was gone, we both thought, a considerable amount of time for what he was purchasing which ended up being, what I would consider, apartment quality tub fixtures. After he was done and we were $418 poorer, we looked in the bathroom and noticed that he had forgotten to secure the ring around the shower head to the wall so my husband had to do that. I also noticed that the silicone caulking around the tub spout had been so messily applied that it was smeared several inches outside the place where the spout meets the fiberglass shower wall. 3 weeks later, after our guests had gone and I went in to clean, I could see that the silicone around the spout was coming away and the spout was now loose. We have another handyman coming to fix this next week. I really should have waited until he was available. He's already done some work for us since Garth, is much cheaper and is doing a fantastic job. He also doesn't spend much time talking to us.......nothing wrong with that, per se, but, after all, the hourly rate clock is ticking. Lastly, I never received the invoice that he said he would send via email so I don't have a breakdown of the parts and labor charges. Upon further inspection and as I said earlier, I was shocked and disappointed at the low quality of the fixtures. He didn't check with us before installation and once they were in, I just wanted to pay him and ""stop the clock"" because he had been there for hours!! This part is totally my fault. I should have paid more attention to what he was doing but it seemed that every time I checked in on him, he started talking to me and I really wanted to leave him alone to get it done asap. Thankfully, it is just a spare bathroom that will be probably be remodeled someday. In hindsight, I wish I would have had more patience and saved the $$ and just left the ugly gold fixtures in there. You live and learn.
Glad some of you had a great experience. Wish we had.
