Be sure to get an in person estimate before having work done. I called and asked about my job and was told the hourly rate and material cost range. Although they were very friendly on the phone, my job ended up being about double what I was expecting. The garbage disposal no longer worked after he finished and I was left having someone else come and fix it which was a loose wire. Also, he was going to leave when I noticed, I now had a drip in my sink. He said I might be better off buying a new faucet. I asked him if he could check it and after 5 min., he resolved the issue. When I received the bill, I was surprised and had questions about the charges. The person I spoke to on the phone was again helpful and understanding of my questions. I was told the only person that could adjust the bill was the owner and I requested that she call me. I never heard back, not to my surprise.
PLEASE STAY AWAY! I could give a NEGATIVE rating I would - I can't stress this enough DO NOT use Abbott they have uneducated plumbers that don't check their work and need to make multiple trips. They send multiple plumbers to figure out what went wrong yet keep charging the customers for their ever mistake. AVOID at all costs!
DO NOT use Abbott. $367 for a 45 minute condo sink routing that Splash, Rocket, or Scottish plumbers (all recommended by neighbors) charge only $200-250.
Advised Lori owner, I've been furloughed from my job and asked for price to be adjusted to be more in line with what other plumbers charge, she coldly said ""no, she pays her bills"". Not agreeable to a payment plan. Rob and Fred in the office were rude, condescending and wouldn't allow me to finish speaking before interrupting me.
Charged 15$ for fuel, 55$ for equipment, 9$ for paper towels, and $289 for 45 minutes labor. DO NOT use Abbott. Instead use Splash, Rocket, or Scottish.
Carol B.I called a plumber suggested by the engineer in my condo building to change the valves in the 2 showers of my 25 year old condo.. He told me to take a picture of the part I needed, and I ordered those parts from the Kohler Co..
The plumber came at 9 am, the water in the whole tier was turned off.
After 2 hours, he announced that this was the wrong part.
I had other work for him. I had ordered everything in my repair call, but the workman taking the order seemed to slough this off, because I don't think the plumber who came knew about the other jobs. One of them was to unstop one of the lavatories in the master bathroom. He started across my room, on my wool rugs in his street shoes. I had to call him on that, and he went downstairs for shoe covers.
Then he had to go back downstairs for equipment to unstop the sink.
I also wanted him to attach a handheld bidet, already assembled. He had to go out again.
I was given a bill for $674.42 at $144.25 p/hour for 4 hours work, $15 fuel charge, $55 for power equipment, $24.7,(apparently) for an 8 in. flexible cord..
Why did he wait 2 hours to tell me it was the wrong part? I feel that I was deliberately over-charged for 2 hours. The company was very nasty when I tried to talk to them about it, and were no-way backing down or making a compromise.
5/28 Plumber Brian arrived at 8:05AM for his 8AM appointment with a note pad, informing me that he is there to fix our wax rings. He informes me that he will get his tools and start working. 20 minutes later Brian returns and starts. At 1045AM Brian informes me that there is an issue with the valve and that he has to reschedule. I asked him if it doesn't seem strange that it would take him 2 hours and 45 minutes to find that out. He said it was complicated. He also needs to have to water shut off and the building needs to schedule this. He promised me that he will schedule this with our engineer. He confirmed this for the following tuesday 8am with all parties involved.
5/29 I call Abbott and speak to Fred. I stated my concerns that a plumber was trying to fix the problem listed, however left after nothing was accomplished after 2 hours 45 minutes. Fred became very upset about me daring to ask him this question and began ""to teach me a lesson"" over the phone, stating that I have no idea about how complicated this issue is and so on. I try to respond to him, however he did hardly let me get a word in. I found this treatment really unprofessional.
6/01 my building posts a note in the elevator stating that the water will be shut down starting 10 am for plumbing issues in a unit (my unit). I found this strange since Brian had confirmed with me for 8am. Again I called Abbott and spoke to Rob. I wanted to confirm the time with him. He stated that would be my ""problem"" if its 8am or 10am. I told him that Brian had confirmed 8am. Again he stated that this would be ""my problem"". I then called all parties and we agreed on 10am.
6/02 Brian arrives and fixed a valve and the wax ring. At the end of his work at 1145Am he comes chatting with me a bit and shows me the finished product. He then informes me that he has to write up his work and will then present me his ""work order"" about 30 minutes later, he returns and has me sign them. He leaves after 2.25 hours. 30 minutes used to write up his work ordeer.
6/07 I received a bill for $840. I am not a plumber, I understand, which I also stated to Fred. However Fred really didn't let me speak and I found Brian not effective in his work, however he was polite and courteous. Rob was not and needless to say I found the way Fred spoke to me rather appalling.
I will not recommend Abbott Industries.
My bathroom faucet was leaking slightly in my unit. I called my condo association and they recommended a plumber from Abbott Industries Inc they are dealing with. The next day this plumber from Abbott Industries Inc showed up and I asked him for a quote. He told me that he does not know the rates of his company. He proceeded with his work to fix the faucet. He was in and out of my unit a lot, he was calling in our condo maintenance guys on the phone and face-to-face. The straight time he put in was from 0.5 to 45 mins to fix the faucet itself. The work he did is listed on the invoice : 'removed the existing cartridge, ordered, picked up and replaced Price Pfister cartridge, shut off stops, trim sleeve and trim plate.' He even didn't replace the faucet handler. The total time he charged was 4.5 hours of straight time. At the time when I had to sign the order, he repeated that he didn't know his company rates. In a couple of days I received an invoice from Abbott Industries Inc for $858.81 ! I almost had a heart attack. I had this faucet repaired before and the cost was $150.00 and it took 0.5 hour to fix it. Abbott Industries Inc charged me $144.25 per hour rate for 4.5 hours. I was never given a quote. I was never told the rates of this company. I was charged for 'fuel surcharge' , I was charged for parking. I was charged for parts ($162.06) and never was given a list of what parts, though it should be just Price Pfister cartridge. I called the company and talked with customer service rep by name Robin. She was very rude, defensive and insisting that the charges are 'legitimate'. She refused to adjust the invoice. I searched the internet and the average price for this job is $150.00. These people didn't give me a quote and then charged me with whatever they felt like. Stay away from this company!
Shanti N.This plumbing company came recommended by my condo building's management office. I have been living in my unit for just over a year and, right as the warranty expired, found that I had met my Waterloo (groan) in the form of the standing shower drain in my master bathroom. Every couple of months, like clockwork, I would call building maintenance to have them take a look. As this was a recurrent concern, maintenance suggested that I schedule an appointment with Abbott Industries. I am glad that I did not have to take it upon myself to search for a plumber. As a bonus, I learned that this plumbing company was involved during the construction phase of my building, so knew what was up with the pipes.
There was some miscommunication when it came to scheduling the appointment, as it was indicated I didn't need to be at home, then later told that I needed to be present when the repair was taking place. As to the service itself, I am pleased that the repairman showed up within his time frame, and practically swooned when the guy took off his shoes without any prodding. I am docking the company slightly, as I referenced a zip-it ($4 plastic tool that the at-home user can deploy to make sure that shower/sink drains are running well, especially after such a time consuming and costly routing out). I was less than thrilled that the guy didn't seem optimistic that this would work, almost like he was angling for a return visit (probably a reality, but one that I would like to defer as long as possible). I felt the work was being adequately explained, which is always important and will take some of the sting out of the invoice when it lands in my mailbox.
