In February 2012, the company added Air Conditioning & Heating to its lineup. The first year of Air Conditioning & Heating services saw Abacus assisting numerous Houston residents.

In September 2014, Abacus broadened its scope by adding Electrical services.

Tom Tynan remarks: ""Having known Alan O'Neill for over 20 years, I can confidently say that Abacus outshines every other plumbing company in Houston.""

Alan's plumbing career began in 1977. Alan's journey started as a plumbing apprentice in Dublin, Ireland. Alan is a licensed Texas Master Plumber. He is married to Linda and has three children. Alan loves spending time with his family and is a certified scuba diver.

“The calm and serenity of the underwater realm provide a refreshing escape from the daily grind,” says Alan He also takes pleasure in following Houston's sports teams, particularly the Houston Dynamo.

DO NOT USE! Either dishonest or grossly incompetent, but without question price gougers! Our AC went out, and we had Abacus come out to check it. The "tech" told me that we needed a new capacitor (charge of $385) a new fan motor (charge of $1,500), a new coil, a new condenser, and maybe a new compressor (total charges getting near $9,000). He strongly recommended that we not put any more money into this "old" system (13 years old) but instead replace it for a cost estimated to be between $9,000 and $11,000.

While the Abacus "tech" was still at my house, I called a client of mine who is an AC repairman in the Woodlands and asked him how much he charged for the listed items. He said replacing a capacitor cost $135, not the $385 Abacus quoted. Replacing the fan motor cost $385, not the $1,500 Abacus quoted. Replacing the entire system would cost $2,500, not the $9,000-$11,000 Abacus quoted. I told the Abacus guy to scram.

My friend came by this morning to check the system. All that was needed to repair it was replacing the capacitor, a $135 charge. He also said a 13 year old unit is not old and should run for years. I've asked Abacus to refund their $49 diagnosis fee since their guy did not diagnose anything. His job was not to find out what was wrong with my AC. His job was to convince me to buy a new system.

They called to do an elect inspect. Said they would not do it on a weekend. Took off half day from work..no pay. They never showed. Called me back 2 weeks later to schedule again. Still no weekend inspectors. I told them I already lost a half days pay and I COULD NOT COUNT ON ABACUS. Consumer beware.

I had a plumber from Abacus come out to drain my water heater and check the plumbing in my house. The water heater draining went fine. He tightened something on one of my toilets too much and the handle wouldn't come back up so the toilet kept running after being flushed. I didn't realize this until I found it running twice after it was flushed. Loosening the nut fixed the problem. The plumber offered to test my tap water. He said that it was very high in chlorine. He claimed I had more chlorine in the water than most swimming pools have and, besides being bad for us, it would cause problems in our pipes. He told me about a system he could install for around $5000 that would filter the water. I took a water bottle of the same water to a pool place to have it tested by them. Their results showed there was NOT an excess of chlorine and that the pH level was normal. It looks like he was just trying to sell me an expensive filter that I don't need.

Les the technician showed up on time and introduced him self. He was clean cut and dressed in a very professional uniform. I explained to him the situation and what i thought i had done wrong. He explained to me that he could resolve the situation and get it corrected. He diagnosed the problem & made me aware of what caused the short in my A/C unit. I also asked him if he could install my new thermostat while he was there and there was no hesitation. When he was done with everything, he came back and explained to me what he did and even showed me how to use my own thermostat. I would recommend ABACUS to everybody and i wouldn't even think twice.

I've now used Abacus twice for two unrelated problems and both times I have been very satisfied with their performance, demeanor, courtesy and professionalism. They came when they said they would; they took care of the problem; I was not charged an exorbitant fee, and they left the house clean and tidy when they departed. I would use them again and recommend them unhesitatingly.

Wish I had gotten a second opinion. Center Point pulled my meter, because my renter smelled gas. I was told that both my stove shutoff and hot water heater were leaking per center point. Called Abacus. $4,600 later, because other things were not up to code. New hot water heater installation about $2,000, new stove shut off valve about $500, coil in heater had to be replaced about $500, $750 for each exhaust piping to roof( x 2). I was told all had to be up to code. The City of Houston inspectors would have only checked work that they did. Doubt I needed 1/2 the repairs!! He fixed another leak in the attic, ( probably my only problem). after the inspector came. He plug it until he left. Wonder if he repaired that correctly. Oh and it would have been about $1,000 more if I didn't join their club. Never ever call this company.

Abacus Plumbing is extremely efficient and I would highly recommend using their services.

Our water heater broke down in the middle of the night and water began leaking to the downstairs floor.
We called their emergency no. They were very courteous and connected us right away with their plumber. The technician came, looked at the heater in the attic, got the parts and fixed it within the hour.

Highly, highly recommended!

Their technician arrived at the agreed time and was courteous and professional. The diagnosis was that the entire a/c system needed replacing at great expense. I arranged for a second engineer to have a look and he found that a loose wire was causing the problem. It was repaired, no replacement parts required, and all I paid for was the call-out fee. Lesson learned; always get a second opinion.

Heh, I guess I'm a sadomasochist when it comes to spending money. I called Abacus once more (third time's a charm, right? NO.) when our downstairs stopped cooling. They came out quickly (yay!) and it was the same guy who replaced the outdoors units when we moved in. He checked outside and remarkably, both units were peachy keen. Up in the attic, we had an issue with our blower motor and we need to replace the entire system. According to him, our units were crappy models made in Mexico and he could put better ones in and give us a warranty. While I was soaking in all of this wonderful information he went out to his car. I assumed he was getting a quote for me but he basically just left. I didn't even get a goodbye :'(

I knew I wasn't going to make this mistake thrice with Abacus so I called a family owned company in my area at the recommendation of a coworker. They needed the serial # on my units outside and in the attic, so I obliged. After walking outdoors and snapping a photo of the sticker on the unit Abacus replaced 2 years ago, I saw it. "MADE IN MEXICO". The very reason he said my attic components were crap.

That's the moment when I said PEACE OUT and decided to never call them ever again.

P.S. Other company told me the parts needing to be replaced were under manufacturer's warranty so all I paid them to fix it was a few hundred bucks for labor.
