A1 Phoenix installed a tankless water heater for and they did excellent job. they were sent by the company that I bought their water heater from. I did not pick them, but I wouldn't hesitate to pick them to not do another Plumbing project.

The bottom line is I do not trust and will not use A1 Phoenex or Frontdoor Pro: they take an underbid job expecting customers will accept false claims that more work is necessary. I also fault Moen for their part in this.

Here's the long story: I wanted a water leak warning/shutoff valve in my home. Moen was offering their $550 valve, with installation, for $750. The contract included up to 8 fittings and 3 feet of copper pipe. More fittings or copper would cost more. I measured it would take less than 3 feet of copper, and six fittings. (I even had the fittings.) I bought the valve with the installation package. Moen's partner, Frontdoor Pro, contacted me and we set up an appointment for 12-26-24, that I had to move to 1-4-25. The first installer (from a company I don't remember) showed up and looked at the installation area. We agreed the valve would go in at the 4 foot run (#1 on the image), and all we'd need would be a cap on the line at #3, two right angles, and one T to join that line after the valve. He said he could do the work without problem. He went out to his truck for 30 minutes, and came back saying he would need to do extra work that would cost more. He pointed to the joints at #2 on the image, and said he had to cut them out because ""they might leak."" That made no sense to me and I told him there's no reason to cut out the perfectly good work. He then said he didn't have a 3/4"" cap with him!!! I said no thanks. As he was leaving, I asked what he would have charged. He said the final bill would be up to his office, but it was a $250 minimum at $250/hr. (This news also was contrary to the contract that said the installer would give an on-the-spot figure for any additional work.) I later received an invoice showing the job was canceled because I wouldn't pay for the modifications.

Two days later, just before I was to return the valve to Moen, Frontdoor Pro called, and convinced me to give them another chance. I said I wasn't going to pay more than the contract price; the rep. said if there were any problems, I could call when the installer was there and they'd work it out. So another date was set for 1-14-25. A1 Phoenix's worker showed 6 minutes after the close of the 2-hour window. I told him what had happened with the first installer, and he agreed cutting out the good work wasn't necessary. He took a photo of the installation area and said he was going to confirm the installation with his office and went to his truck. He did not tell me it would cost more than the $750 contract price. I waited about 40 minutes, and then looked outside; his truck was gone. A few minutes later, I got an email from Frontdoor Pro that the installation was set for 3:00pm to 7:00 pm that evening. Two minutes later another email arrived stating that the installation was canceled because ""Customer mentioned he's not willing to pay for the mods.""

So Frontdoor Pro gets the $200 installation fee from Moen. They take a (large?) piece of that money, and pay the rest to subcontractors who are free to squeeze whatever extra they can from the customer. I've spoken to honest contractors who say they wouldn't do the job even for $200.

Stay away from these bait and switch artists. I wish I'd saved the name of the first company, so I'd remember not to use them either.

A1 Phoenix came to install a water heater, the installation cost of which was fully paid for by the warranty company AHS. However A1 charged me an additional $1733 for work not needed -- like $ 110 to replace a good aluminum pan, $ 165 to replace good stainless steel pipes.. and the list goes on and on -- even though I told them not to while the installation was in progress! That is very dishonest of them.

They lied to my insurance company saying that there wasn't a pipe leak, when obviously there is! Needless to say that I paid out of pocket for another plumber to come out to prove this! If I could give 0 stars, I would!

I am so disappointed with this Company. My Home warranty insurance assigned me to this company to fix my pilot issue on my water heater and didn't do nothing. They came 3 times and still did not completed the job. The technician they sent us appears not wanting to do the job and gives me so many excuses . No wonder they have a lower score. I normally give a good review if warranted but this time. I wish i could give them a zero.

I really appreciate the technician Ronaldo who fairly assessed the issue so that I understand it is not a pipe related issue which I thought was. The technician is very professional.

Not an easy company to work with if you have questions on the quote and want to discuss further. I ended up looking for another plumber and they quoted for HALF the price that A1 gave me, with much better customer service too.
This place must prey on ignorant people and people who do not bother to get a 2nd opinion. Total rip off.
